Stardock Entertainment and Ironclad Games are very pleased to announce the release of Beta 1 for all Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion pre-order customers!
This first beta will allow you to play as the TEC Loyalists or Rebels in either single-player or multiplayer via Ironclad Online or LAN. Also included in this first beta release:
If you've pre-ordered, watch your e-mail for your order receipt with your Steam CD-Key and download information. If you'd like to get in on the beta, head over to the Purchase page. For existing registered Trinity/Diplomacy customers the price is $29.95 for a limited time; for new customers it's $39.95.
and I have managed to get a computer FREEZEUP(turns out to be a firewall request when a minidump occurs) in the beta and was able to duplicate it.
the steps are
1.play as tec loyalist,
2 build the titan,
3.s elect titan,
4. right mouse on the select abilities button to auto select abilities,
RESULT you have a frozen computer.
I will see if this also happens with the tec rebels.
and it does dump when right mouse clicking on the titan's abilities button for BOTH rebel AND loyalist
harpo
I think that's the point. They want competitive ladder play to exist this time around, and that's not going to happen if the pace of 1v1 and 2v2 (the main focus of competitive RTS ladder) is too slow. Single player is still there if you want huge epic games.
Is it just me or are the TEC rebels WAAAAAY overpowered?
Just keep building colony ships and Akkons (colony capital ships) right after you get "Truce Amoungst Rogues" (tech that makes neatral your ally). Neutrals will protect you "enough" early on. By the time you are noticed as a threat you have so much income you can build any fleet you need (including your Titan)
Build 2 Civic research centers, research logistics upgrade, build another Civic research center and then research TAR. After that just keep building colony ships/Akkons and upgrading developing the planets as you take them.
Then just pump into reasearch as you will have WAY more income than anyone early on.
i think i would have rushed you by then . Rebels or Loyalists people? whose your daddy?
When can we hope to see the other races, and what they have to offer?
definitely vasari loyalists cant wait to raze me some planets
speaking of which, found this playing Hyperion's Gates in 2v2v2v2
they showed up as a neutral faction, occupying the only planet in that system. unfortunately i had already researched the truce, so i couldn't see how the rebel titan would do against it...
There should be an option to cancel Truce Among Rogues, I wanted to farm some EXP for my titan before I finished my opponent, cuz every single level on the titan makes him significantly stronger. The problem wit the titan is that you can have only one, that makes leveling him a must. TAR turned out to be a great inhibitor late-game even though it helped early on.
Already noticed and sent a minidump and other relevant files to support.
Well it's not, because the AI races now to the novalith in no time. So you cannot make an epic game, it will always be for the fast kill this time. I don't really mind because I can mod it for my LAN sessions and for single player, still I'm not sure it is a sensible decision to make a 4xRTS game play that fast.
@Riddleking
Maybe in a 1:1 you could, but in a larger game rush strategies fail.
I was playing huge with impossible AI, and I surrounded the star quite quickly and cut off most players from each other. My resource output was so large I had my Titan just as they were distributing star bases. Havnt finished yet but the system is mine....
I agree. I set up a 9 Hard Computer Free for All and the game still took forever. What a great way to get 44% of the Achievements in one pass though
How long does it take to get the beta-key if you just pre-orderd the game ?
Just played a single player 4 player FFA. Not seeing the 'super fast games', it seemed pretty normal to me.
Some feedback since I don't know where else it should go:
-Pirate alliance thing is awesome at first, but quickly becomes annoying. With no way to 'shut it off', your popcap quickly get filled with pirates. It's strong if you rush for it and use that as your fleet, but late game it makes it hard to build normal ships.
-Overcharge on Rebel titan seems bugged with the Scatter Shot (shotgun shot thing). It doesn't appear to get any additional bonus from the overcharge once you skill it past level 2.
-Not sure what the point of the new laser upgrade is. An extra 5% isn't going to make cobalts worthwhile late game. I'd suggest either having multiple levels or giving some other bonus to keep their damage output competitive.
-Some of the old, useless techs are still useless. Refineries are still overpriced, bombing tech upgrades are still overpriced junk, TEC beam tech upgrades are still LOL, etc. Some balancing efforts for the old stuff will help diversity in teching paths.
I will try loyalists next.
i got i instantly put i upgraded form trinety so i was frist in line...
For pirates they were good to use in the beggining but relied on them too much after novalith cannons took them out.
Allow option to stop spawning them so I can build my own ships. I swear after I made the pact I did not build a ship for 2 hours. Maybe make it a pay for or hire pirates mercenaries.
Allys (peace treaty) were also cannoning my planets maybe because they thought they were still the enemy? That really needs to stop.
Defense turrets are now back at 20 instead of 40 with trinity. Please go back to 40 or 40 for loyalist and 20 for rebels.
Is it ok to record videos of this beta and post them?
While playing a game as Rebel with a Rebel ally, I noticed they continuously jumped between two or three of their systems in what I assume is an attempt to engage the Insurgent forces that spawn in their grav wells due to my upgrade. Since they are rebel as well, they cant attack or destroy each other, but it effectively kept my ally so busy shuffling between its own systems that they became pretty much useless when I needed their help to attack our enemies. Has anyone else noticed this problem?edit: speaking of the rebel reinforcements, if the insurgent ships aren't dealt with (i.e. destroyed) they stack up in gravity wells and create HUGE fleets that I believe drain CPU performance. These massive refugee fleets would be good for defending your gravity wells from any aggressors, but often times they are in wells that are far from the front line and have little to no chance of being attacked. I'm sure this issue will be resolved by the final relase, if not within the next few betas.
Oh btw, is this thread where we should be voicing our observations, problems, suggestions, etc?
Thanks to all the SINS developers! Glad to see the excitement for the game is back.
Played a game through, found my Rebel Titan (forgot its name already...) unwilling to automatically move within range of a target after setting the field of engagement to small, and then to large again. After jumping to another planet, it seemed to be okay again, other then that, a good step forward for an already great RTS! Can't wait to see the other factions!
WHEN WILL I GET MY BEAUTIFUL ADVENT CARRIERS BACK!!!! I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!!!
I want them [e digicons]:'([/e]
The Elemental - Fallen Enchantress beta is out now for those who pre-ordered the original game ( a bit of a stumble for Stardock, that was), so we're up to the second release beta of that. Brad both giveth and taketh away (games and time, respectively). I gotta get beta time in with both before Mar 6. I've got plenty of beta time in on Sins, so while I want to get my $0.02 worth in, I've more than had my say on Sins, but I'm SOOOO torn.
pek
the game is great with the new ships n all but i expected flashier graphix :/ still love it though.
the titan is such a turn on, its a moving starbase...more like 2 starbases in 1 fully maxed out that phase jumps. i absolutely love it, takes a while to level up but the time invested is worth it once u let it survive to higher levels, game maker or breaker.
Hey Yarlen (or another rep from Stardock)... is it true that with the release of Rebellion, you will also release an updated GalaxyForge that incorporates map "triggers"... so that you can make scenario's etc?
I was just playing a game and as soon as research for Tech Rebels - Flak Frigate finishes I crash.
Correction. I seem to crash randomly when a AI fires the big cannon (forgot name).
I have compressed the crash dumps and they are available here:

you get more planets but less income compared to someone who ecos in the traditional way. Plus brings you close to the enemy faster
