Would it be possible to create some sort of super statinos or structures aroudn the suns? in single system the sun is usualy avoided. I woudl be good to have something else do to there then just build 4 econ stations.
Why?
I like the idea. it can be easily done--you could put trade stations there for example.
You also could work on star ability activated specific ship abilities.
You should ask GoaFan to consider adding it to his 4x Enhanced mod as another set of random encounters.
I always did think it was weird in SOSE that the sun serves no purpose and yet the game is set in the distant future. It would make for interesting gameplay if a faction could somehow gain some type of resource from it.
Maybe instead of just a tech upgrade to jump to other stars, astructure has to be be built around your star to jump to others.
It is Sins of a SOLAR Empire after all .
and when the developers sat down and gave you a race from independence day that strips planets for its resources and moves on: you didn't thank them.
and when they gave you a race that resurrects the dead like a witch cult: you didn't thank them.
When they gave you a race that blows up an entire planet like the vorlons in babylon 5: you didn't thank them
When they gave you a race with ninja missiles that don't give a shit about shields: you didn't thank them
When they gave you a race that minds controls an entire planet-which sounds like the biggest load fiction-cool fiction: you didn't thank them.
Did you even thank your mother for going through her pregnancy pains for your sorry asses: you didn't thank them.
Let me tell you something about developers--they already discussed the sun like the way it was used in Andromeda and Star-gate Universe to recharge the destiny's energy cells. There the most ignorant jack asses you'd ever met- cool jackasses because they've signed a confidential agreement not to swoop in here and say-- we r still going through our ideas about the sun so expect something in the future. Love you fans.
I love your idea crisaron--so do the ignorant cool developers who can't say so because they are already working on it. So thank them in the hopes they will be less ignorant and make more journals about new features.
Would fit right in, bit I don't think any of the currently existing meshes would do it justice...
TEC Planet Shield.
Would look decent as a solar colector or some sorts.
You could even resize the mesh, mostly the dish at the end to make it look better
Don't the sun currently help you recharge antimatter faster than normal? If your fleet is nearly depleted on antimatter, it might be beneficial to swing on by quick into sun's gravity well to recharge quickly and escape?
Correct me if i'm mistaken.
It does, but beyond putting starbase there in multistar matches there isn't much point in "holding" the star, as nothing spawns there and cannot be colonized. Its just a quick battery recharge basically.
I'm having enough trouble as it is with that mesh. Clearly they were designed to be used for anything but planet modules.
I'm more interested to know whether the suns gravitational pull as anything to do with ships doing long distant jumps.
This business of having to go to the suns orbit to make long distant jumps is too mind bongling-and don't give me that load of crap about the sun being the centre of the everything bcause it sounds like the same bs our ancestors were saying about the earth without evidence.
Are long distant jumps connected to the sun-and how? Maybe it was already documented so someone direct me to it-but if i was on pluto and you asked me to travel to the Sun first to make a phase jump to Alpha Centura and not say why i'd tell you to go eat cow dung because it seems you love talking shit---soo hey im just curious just like the next guy: why do we jump from the sun to other solar systems?
Are gravitational forces only affecting a single phase line that jumps to other suns--devs please speak up.
The Devs have spoken on this issue somewhat...the concept of phase lanes in general is 100% a gameplay decision, and there is really no posited lore or psuedo-science reason for this that actually makes sense (in fact, I don't think there's any stated reason at all)...
Apparently, way back when they were making the game, they actually tried more Newtonian solar systems where the planets orbit around a star and you could travel from one well to any other...the devs noted that such a system simply was not fun despite being more realistic, and so they went with the phase lane idea...
It is completely non-nonsensical, and some threads have been made to discuss the pseudoscience behind it, but the general feeling I think is that one should simply not try to apply logic to this game...SD isn't known for being realistic or having the most realistic science fiction (I mean, they have green stars, seriously?)...all they care about is gameplay and having it look pretty...
Well I guess that the 4th race will be around the sun and creating Dyson sphere around them meaning the death of the colonies around and allt he planets are stripped bare to create the dyson sphere!
You get your lvl 3 type of civilization able to push back the vasarie!
If it's a problem with abilities, give the mesh ability nulls. I know this sounds silly, but I had a problem like this with a stock Sins mesh (read: minidumps) and slapping in such nulls fixed it.
Someone's been reading Alastair Reynolds ...
Eclipse Phase mostly...
