You are correct. The download is now available.
I see a download link for Quest Wizard but not for Quest Creator.
Also, where does the setup install the program ?
Dang, I thought the upload was approved. It had one download. Must have been the SD folks who download and approve. I guess we are still waiting.
The application is a click once install you should find the actual install files here (where the obfuscated folder name is long Alpha-numeric string - for me it is C:\Users\Dave\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\4QHM6ZEO.9EP\LH9K9E4J.4Q9).
On windows Vista and Windows 7, you will find the ClickOnce cache here: c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\obfuscatedfoldername\obfuscatedfoldername
On Windows XP, you will find it here: C:\Documents and Settings\username\LocalSettings\Apps\2.0\obfuscatedfoldername\obfuscatedfoldername
Okay, I uploaded the new version of the Quest Creator (have the fetch item type of quest added with or without monsters). Hopefully it gets approved soon. Let me know if it doesn't show up for a while and I'll post it somewhere else.
I must have timed it just right, I was able to grab the 1.0.0.1 the other day (can't see 1.0.0.2 yet). I think the simple editor is a great addition, I found it really easy to make basic quests.
I like that I can then also load them in the advanced editor to tweak them more.
I look forward to the next update! Thanks for making this!
Thanks for the feedback. I like having the basic editor. It is really quick to make a quest, and I think it provides a good start for the advanced editor. Let me know if there is a type of quest you think I should add to the basic editor.
BTW - version 1.002 should be available soon from wincustomize (had a download yesterday, I assume it was SD for approval), but you can get it here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/12727985/Mods/QuestCreator.zip for now.
edit: Available at Wincustomize now.
I will probably do this for my own benefit, but I am interested in finding out if there is interest in a random quest creator?
How would that work? Would it create the outline of the quest, then prompt you for the text to display or something?
No, I am thinking I would have lots of blocks of text that go together or are interchangeable. The quests would not be examples of masterful writing, but hopefully would provide a little bit of randomness for some of the quests. I would randomize the item you are looking for, rewards, monsters to fight, etc.
I personally would not be interested in a Random Quest Generator.
I can install both the wizard and creator fine, but in the Wizard when I hit create quest the program crashes.
The creator drop down window for quest type is blank and Create Quest button does nothing.
Tried installing both as Admin as well.
Windows 7 64
EDIT: Sorry, meant to add I tried to NET repair advised on the previous page.
That is really weird. It has got to be a .NET issue, but I am a bit lost on how to suggest you fix it. I assume you are playing on a machine that has FE installed? That's not really necessary at the point you are crashing at, as I am just displaying a simple dropdown box. Any chance you have another computer you can try it on?
When you installed the wizard did it have to download and install .NET?
Can you unistall the wizard and creator without errors (from the Unistall Programs control panel under Fallen Enchantress Quest Wizard/Creator)?
Install of both did not require .NET and uninstalls for both worked fine multiple times.
EDIT: Tried it again for the hell of it and I just noticed the version number for the wizard says "v.1.0" This doesn't seem to match up with the advertised versions..lol
EDIT 2: The error details:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 Problem Signature 01: questwizard.exe Problem Signature 02: 0.5.1.0 Problem Signature 03: 50885d88 Problem Signature 04: QuestWizard Problem Signature 05: 0.5.1.0 Problem Signature 06: 50885d88 Problem Signature 07: 1c5 Problem Signature 08: 33 Problem Signature 09: System.NullReferenceException OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 0a9e Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789 Additional Information 3: 0a9e Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
Iteresting. I actually store the version as part of the application settings. If you are seeing v.1.0 then you are seeing the default value before it actually checks the settings. I know you said you used Administrator, but I wonder if for some reason the application can't write to the AppData directory. Or if it can't access the registry to look for information on the game.
Have you perhaps changed your OS so you have no My Documents library?
Nope, fairly fresh and standard install, only a month or so old.
EDIT: Also, not sure if this matters. Just tried another uninstall, the correct version does show in the program list. Also, I can't believe I haven't tried this before, but Load Quest doesn't crash me, but points to the mods folder which is in the My Documents tree, that doesn't seem right, is it?
Is it possible that since I have FE on Steam it's not detecting it properly?
Hmm... maybe so. The load quest does go to the mods folder currently by default, I guess I should have it go to the FallenEnchantress/Quests folder.
I don't have the steam version. I wonder if that is the problem. Does anyone that has the steam version have the editor working correctly?
I look in the registry for the install directory, but if it can't find it I would guess that would be the problem. Good thinking. Let me see if I can make it a little more friendly about getting an install directory. If you are familiar with the config files for .NET applications located in (C:/Users/<username/AppData/Local/Data/2.0/<long ugly directory>/<another long ugly directory>/<something with quest in the name>/user.config
If you look in that file you will see an install directory value, my guess is yours is just blank. This is probably the problem. If possible, tell me what it says.
I have four folders in there, none of which have a user.config in them. In one folder I have the .exe icon and questwizard.config which I will paste..
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?><configuration> <configSections> <sectionGroup name="userSettings" type="System.Configuration.UserSettingsGroup, System, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" > <section name="QuestWizard.Properties.Settings" type="System.Configuration.ClientSettingsSection, System, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" allowExeDefinition="MachineToLocalUser" requirePermission="false" /> </sectionGroup> </configSections> <userSettings> <QuestWizard.Properties.Settings> <setting name="InstallDir" serializeAs="String"> <value /> </setting> <setting name="TriggerTypes" serializeAs="String"> <value>,TurnNumber,TotalPopulation,QuestLocation</value> </setting> <setting name="TreasureTypes" serializeAs="String"> <value>Custom,Block Tile,Complete Research,Complete Training,Create Goodie Hut/Lair,Create Shard,Create World Prop,Creatures Gain Level,Damage All Units,Damage Unit,Declare War,Give XP,Give Item,Give Unit,Give Money,Give Resource,Spawn Monsters,Unlock Improvement,Unlock Spell</value> </setting> </QuestWizard.Properties.Settings> </userSettings></configuration>
Ok, so I've uploaded new versions that if they can't find the install directory will prompt you to specify the install location. Hopefully that will fix this problem if steam is messing it up somehow. The versions have been uploaded to WinCustomize and should be available soon.
Awesome, will let you know ASAP.
Worked! You're a hero, now I can finally see what this 10 page thread is about
Wohoo! Thank you for helping me troubleshoot that. I probably wouldn't have thought about the steam issue otherwise. Make sure you post the quests you make so we can all try them out.
Will do
One tiny more thing though...lol
Every time you launch either the Wizard or Creator it asks for the install location. So, it is still functional, just more of an annoyance factor.
really? Does it do that if you run as an admin everytime? It should be saving the location after asking you, and then loading it the next time. Something is definitely up if it can't save any information to the config files. I'll look into it. We'll figure it out.
Ok, I am in the process of combining the 2 programs. Essentially you'll have the option to start the quest wizard with a "pre-designed" quest made from the quest creator. Then you can save right away or edit whatever you'd like and then save it. I'll also look at how I am saving the install location and see if I can solve the problems that some folks are having.
Yea, I've tried different methods, different settings of the UAC from off to extreme just for yucks. Asks every time
