Ok--so the fighters and bombers and the like a models made into particle effects. What's involved in creating this? I have some replacement strike craft to add.
Not sure what you meant exactly, but the fighters and bombers aren't made into particle effects are they? I just put them in game same as any other frigate or capital or whatever.
Place fighter/bomber model in mesh folder
Make a copy of an existing fighter or bomber entityConnect mesh to fighter or bomber entity - add custom strings and iconsMake a copy of an existing squadfighter or squadbomber entity - connect fighter/bomber entityAdd all new entities to manifest, change count
Choose which frigate, capital, structure or SB that get the new squad attached
Blast away
There does not seem to be an upgrade mesh available for strikecraft so stuck with add new types. Can have as many types as you want but only the amount for dock 5? I put suicide fighter bombers at homeworld defence only, supper heavy bombers on carrier capital and SB and so on.
A particle effect is doable with an ability but will not always show if particles hit the limit late game. They are attached to a meshpoint like Above Aura or Centre have lots of particles attached or the blinking lights are particles attached to the meshpoint "Flairs".
A few good modellers have done and you have to wait for 1 of them for details. PM Thoumsin if nobody pops in.
I don't think fighters can have particles, but I might be wrong.
Oh--I'm happy to have them as just models--I thought fighters were particle effects--which is how they fly through things. I've already modded a dozen different types of strikecraft but was considering adding new models for them.
Do you just add them as mesh files then? And, do strike craft have weapons points?
It would be awesome if I could just mesh them and use existing weapon effects--I can make the models proportional for that.
Strike craft are basically ships with some hardcoded attributes related to them as far as graphics are concerned. In Black Sun there are fighters with 3 weapons that fire from various turrets and such.
Thanks Iskatumesk that explains it (and thanks everyone else too).
So they will need weapons points in them? I'm just wondering if I can swap my models and still have them work. The XSI tools don't work properly on my PC and I have to have someone convert to mesh for me as well. Somewhat limits my options.
The other thing I can do is hand edit the mesh files if I can just copy out the weapon point info, I can make my models with guns in the same places.
I'm guessing here--I have not done any of this.
They should just work. I didn't do anything differently with my fighters than I do other ships.
Typical mesh points are 2 forward weapons, 1 or 2 rear exhaust, 1 blinking light, above aura and centre points.
Needs a texture set and a tangent map. Icons with dock and launch, picture, fleet tree icon, select, move and attack voice sounds, engine sound
Send me the obj and I will see what I can do.
Dont know why so many people have issues with XSI
I am pretty good at work arounds and tweaking installs but XSI has been nonfunctional and Particle Forge semi-works but does not save usable files.
If I had more time I'd do a three-day straight till my eyes bled make-it-work party but for only a one-timer of half a dozen small models...sigh.
Thanks for the help. Let me get the poly counts lower on them and I have the heavy bombers still then I'll send them your way for exorcism.
Hmmm--as I was stuck and had time...I pondered the vagaries of what might be wrong.
In my pondering, I considered Net 2.0 and it appears mine in Win 7 was somewhat corrupted. So I uninstalled and reinstalled it and particle forge is open and seeming to have features that were not there before.
Of course now I will have to attempt to see if it works and learn to use it but then on to the XSI tool to see if it has been healed.
I blame Ryat.
Ok...XSI still not working. Getting the command error that it's not a recognizable executable or batch file.
I've gone into environment variables and added the info there as well (it wasn't listed already) and rebooted and retried...still no luck.
Any ideas anyone?
Yeah! I remember having these sorts of problems with various programs. Still am with flash player. Every site Ive tried gives me a corrupt install.
It could be that you are missing a dll. file. Ive had to download and install numerous of these to get 1 program or another going. Seem's Microsoft, they missed a few in Win 7. but it normally tells you if your missing 1 of these. The d3dx9_32.dll rings a bell for some reason, or 1 of those d3dx9_--.dll files for the System32 folder. Msvcp71.dll And Msvcr71.dll also rings a bell for something or another. There's a few others I cant remember.
I presume you are running the program as admin. and its installed into Program files(x86)
Anyhow best of luck finding the answer.
Yeah--I'm admin with permissions and the files are all there in the right folder. Dlls are registered and the like. I'm trying something now to see if it works.
I installed XSI direct to C:C:\Softimage\Softimage_Mod_Tool_7.5
The program also does not like spaces in the address. C:\Softimage\Softimage Mod Tool 7.5 =BAD
I do seem to remember an issue when switching to 64 and placing it in the x86 folder. I think the x86 uses an emulator for 64 that mucks up a few programs.
Maybe...I always use underscores instead of spaces. Old habit which is helpful.
