I have a really simple request. I don't do the model conversions as I value my sanity but I want to add a simple "objectives" model to the game. Essentially a rectangular box between the size of a cargo ship and a scout.
It will be added to my mod as a variety of frigate types (though they won't move). I'll add them to map templates and use them as objectives--high experience bonuses for destroying them, resource or credit gains, decoy booby-traps, etc.
So if someone out there is willing to create a single box and give it a bright stand out texture (diagonal yellow and black lines with a team color border would be excellent).
I want the box and texture to be generic and low poly so there are no issues with adding it to Rebellion or the current expansions so there is no need for something spectacular. Stick a few antennae or blinking lights on it if you really want to dress it up (blinking lights would be cool).
I'll always credit the creator in any use of it and am happy to have it shared by any who want to use it. Both the texture and model conversions are my Achilles's heel at present so help is appreciated.
If someone does this with the blinking lights and antennae and team color border, I'll make a Sins model for you with my MakerBot (which I am getting back this weekend).
Thanks for the attention...fingers crossed.

Check out the artifact addon in my mod and look at the StarbaseArtifact. It's an unused Planet Artifact model included in the original game. It's texture and icons would really stand out for what your wanting to do. If I recall it's mesh and texture are actually fairly low resource wise too.
I changed it from it's tilted access to lay horizontal and added various hard points (but I think they need some fix'n).
I'll be adding some other random artifacts down the road you might look at too like Satellites or other odd structures not really associated with a set race/faction.
You mean "The Fallen" mod correct? I'll go rummage through it. Found it I think. Let me go see.
...
err... never mind, silly me.
Do we have a mesh viewer...that doesn't require me converting models to use it? At one time I had one that worked half-heiney but it's on my crashed HD and I don't recall what I used.
You may use 3D Object converter
As for:
You may use low-poly asteroid meshes.. it'll be more realistic btw.
...\Mesh\AsteroidSmall00
Thanks Aplos!
3DObject Converter is the program I had used. Thanks again for the reminder.
Yep--the low poly asteroid models are a good workaround--and thanks even for pointing to a particular model as a suggestion.. What I did want though was a way to flag the models with a noticeable effect--a color, particle effect, blinking lights--something that screams "bonus object".
Unfortunately, I always balked at texturing due to somehow never quite getting how to get the layers and channels synced. Some sort of mental block in that for me plus starting in Freelancer that has all sorts of texturing glitches and quirks which really put me off after awhile.. Ironically, I do ad layout with Photoshop and began with Gimp.
LAVO MADE A CARGO BOX--BOW BEFORE HIS GREATNESS ALL OTHER INSECTS!
Just kidding--but cool job Lavo. Finally now--with Sins--I can play with the box.
To be fair, I just rigged it. Someone else made the actual model.
