As I am new in skinning for windoblinds, I sure don't have all the knowledge nedeed so I was wondering if there was another way to apply blur to windowblinds skins besides setting it on in per pixel frames/extra settings ?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining but this method applies a default shape non suitable for what I'm planning.
Not sure if I understand, what you want/need to blur and what you don't want to blur?
Some blur limitations may apply due the OS (Windows Vista/7) own limitations.
I mean the blur under all the ui parts : title bar (caption), taskbar, windows sides and bottom, contextual menus....
For example, let's say that you design a skin with rounded corners for the windows and enable the blur in per pixel frames, then you'll find that the windows have squared corners blurred under your lovely round corners. If you add shadows (by yourself or using windowblinds option), you'll have a really unpleasant non pro skin : shadow + blur layer (with squared corners and a blue ghost for the inactive state) + your skin showing emptyness between it's rounded corners and the edge of the blurred layer.
A picture is always worth a thousand words, here's a little example....
Background + shadow + blur layer with squared corners (per pixel settings option) + skin with rounded corners at 50% opacity
Hello Olivia. What you should do is go to "skinstudio/edit titlebars windowframes/edit per pixel frames/caption, then go in to the "extra settings" tab, scroll down to botttom and you´ll see:
"BUR ROUNDED EDGE VALUE HORZ"
"BLUR ROUNDED EDGE VERT"
Both of these values are set to -1 -click on either of them to change the value.
Try 50 for both and see what happens and experiment from there.
since we are on the subject of blur... does anyone know if there is a way to eliminate the blur behind the explorer background?
I didn't try yet the others options in per pixel settings (blur rounded edge value Horz/Vert), I hope they will help a bit... Nonetheless, using the in built blur option isn't suitable for all non conventionnal skin, like...
as one can clearly see the blurred layer in all non skinned parts of the windows, notably the empty parts in the simili title bar.
Thanks neone6, I've just remembered these values and checked them out but still have to test them...
Isn't it that option (per pixel frames/settings/blur) that controls the entire blur layer ?
Apparently not, because I have mine turned off and it's still there behind the explorer background. I was hoping that someone might know of a way to do it by entering a code or something. It's probably not possible because I have never seen a blind that didn't have it.
Correct - you cannot turn off the blur behind, for example, the glass toolbar section (in explorer windows behind the folder path and search boxes). It's blurred whether you want it to be or not, so you have to either make your frame blurred to match or design in something for that section.
I got latte but looks like people here gave a lot of tips
I did discover something that I found kinda odd.... it might be a bug in SKS, but I'm not sure because I have not tried to do the transparent explorer backgrounds before.
At one point, I totally lost my transparency on my explorer background and spent quite a while trying to figure out why, I discovered the if you do not have an image in the Scrollbar Arrows Glass part, you lose your Explorer Background transparency. I don't know if it's always been that way or if that is a new thing, but thought I'd let everyone know that.
