recently purchased sins of a solar empire: trinity thru steam. After downloading and installing the game a stardock account registration app pops up and asks for my stardock account and the serial # from the game on steam. I have a valid stardock account from owning the original sins of a solar empire which I bought back when it came out and its valid because I can log into these forums with the same information.
So I enter my email, password & my serial number (that I got by right clicking on the game from the steam library window). After I do this the stardock program gives an error message and says the serial code in invalid and the game wont run. It says something about it could be my firewall but I have my firewall disabled so I dont think that is the problem.
When the stardock registration gives the error msg it also opens up a notepad file that says:
Application start 2011-11-19 (followed by what looks like an IP address)
Downloading test internet data.....
Download: Success
Test Internet Data - Failed
Please ensure the serial number entered is associated with the email you used and attempt to activate again. Include this log file if contactint support
1. I dont understand why the game is going thru steam and the stardock registration page when I purchased the game thru steam.2. How do I actually get the game to play?Is the game supposed to launch a stardock registration application when I launch it from steam? Is it doing this because I originally registered my original copy of vanilla Sins thru Stradock and this version is from steam so it doesnt recognize it?Should I delete and reinstall the game?please help me.
p.s. I still own the original CD of the original sins game but I bought the trinity game thru the special that is being offered thru steam. I dont currently have the original sins installed on my computer. Is this the problem? I thought trinity was a stand alone game as thats how they are selling it on steam.
There have been one or two issues with Steam and registration of Sins. Not sure why. I think you need to send an email to sinssupport@stardock.com
OK after reading and trying different things and deleting and reinstalling the game I finally got it to run.
The problem was the insructions on the stardock activation page dont tell you to change the name of the file you have to plug into the stardock folder.
In case anyone else is having the same problem as me (basically you arent really computer savvy and didnt notice this because you follow the instructions to the letter) here is how I got the game running:
1. After you download and install the game from steam, when you launch it, the startdock activation window will pop up asking you for you email, stardock acct password and the serial number from the game you are trying to register.
2. If you dont already have a stardock account make one. (I already had one since I bought Sins vanilla the day it came out)
After I did this the activation program gives an error message and says it cant communicate with the server. On my computer it gave a message, opened up the folder with the file you need to upload and then tells you to goto this website:
http://activate.stardock.com/
3. Once there, goto this section:
------------------------------------------------------------------
Website Activation
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. You dont need to take the file to a computer without internet access like it says in #2, I did it from my pc I was trying to activate the game on. Just find the XX.txt file in the folder it opens for you and submit it in the form.
5. Once you submit the file underneath the sbmit button you will see a link where it says 'Click here to Download'. Save the file to your computer some where.
6. *Here* is what was causing my problem. The next instrcutions above say to copy & paste the file into this directory:
C:\ProgramData\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\License\trinity.bin
The problem is the file is actually named 'sig.bin' not 'trinity.bin'.
I know its an easy mistake and most of you probably already knew this but like I said I'm not computer savvy and following the instructions to the letter it doesnt tell you to rename the file.
So basically rename the file you download befoer you pop it into the directory and the game will launch.
Sorry for wasting a lot of people's time but I know I'm not the only computer Jerry's kid out there and I want more people to actually play and enjoy this game.
Good Luck!
I am having the same problem.
However it does not offer me the option for alternate activation.
How did you get to the alternate activation application?
i tried this for demigod and well, i ran into a rough spot, there was a problem loading the page hahaha i hate my luck...

ok, so i have the same problem except i never get a notepad file or anything popping up, like i will click register and nothing happens, so i have to exit then the error pops up but it just says "Error activating product" and nothing else happens. I have contacted support 4 times and they have done nothing and i contacted them almost 1 month ago. Im so frustrated with this. any help?
@vesarioustribes I have the same problem. I bought Trinity a few months ago, and when I installed it today, I couldn't register it. I have a Stardock account from long ago, and I can log in online and here. However, when I launch the game and put in my information and click Register, nothing happens.
Note: If I go on the Stardock website, the game is already registered under my account.
Please contact support@stardock.com for assistance.
the product key given by steam when i bought trinity does not work.
ive tryed following the steps to download a file and save it in certain location, but that does not work.
I have spent nearly 45 minutes trying to get this game to work and frankly im pissed off. I cant believe I have to go
through all this just to play your game. its pathetic.
If you're having trouble installing it from Steam, that's a Steam issue.
Same problem, I just want my money back. Don't care if there's a fix. This is asinine how much of a problem it is just to play a video game. Refund me so I can be done with this.
