So, what do you guys think about these new monsters?
The top pic is probably more of the new capital ship for the Vasari. Looks scary to me, can't wait to blow it up!
Mid i'm gonna guess is a Vas titan, and the bottom an Advent, and i'm judging that by the color of the text rather than the look. The Mid pic looks very much vasari, but the bottom one i can't entirely tell whether it's one or the other except for the text.
They all look awesome though. Wonder what they cost, and how much pain it will bring my enemies when i kill them.
My analysis according to name and look:
Top: New Vasari Capship, note the insectoid shape, and the fact that its name is "Battleship" and not "Titan."
Middle: New Vasari Titan, still insectoid, and called a "Titan".
Bottom: New Advent capship, recycles plating from the Transcencia, and called a "Battleship."
This is purely speculative...
I found this after reading the interview... http://www.rtsguru.com/game/197/Sins-of-a-Solar-Empire/screenshots/6669.html
EDIT:
Nice find!
I am guessing that this is an Advent Titan?
Hard to say what it is, but thanks for posting!
If it truly is an Advent titan, the thing must be huge. Also, there seems to be some kind of "flying soucer" that is seperate from the rest of the ship. I wonder what that is supposed to be.
Well, I'll admit I was taken aback a bit at the Nigredo Cherubim Titan and the Advent Cyhyraeth Battleship compared to the current capital ship lineup.
But after I digested it a bit I kind of like the departure from the current capital ship models which are fairly pedestrian for the most part when compared to these.
Hopefully this means whenever a Sins 2 is conceived Advent will make a grand departure from the current capital ship models in favor of ships like the Cyhyraeth which do not resemble any Tec like influence.
And I'm not really sure what to say about the Cherubim yet other than it definately looks Advent... which is good.
Well all the Advent ships have names that mean something in English, (Rapture/Halycon etc.), and while at first I didn't think the Cyhyraeth followed that pattern, I quick look on wikipedia informs me its some Welsh banshee like creature, which while a bit different from the other Advent ships certainly fits them. Perhaps this slight change in nomenclature indicates the Cyhyraeth is a Rebel ship?
Also from wikipedia, Nigredo was once a alchemy concept for decay, but psychology has since taken over the term to mean the process of when an individual confronts the darkness within themselves. Which does follow quite well with the previous ship names.
A Cherubim is of course the little guy below, from Judeo-Christian mythology and fits with the religious based meanings of previous advent ships, and seems to be the basis for the odd ship shape. So I suppose it does make a little sense to call it that instead of a battleship or whatever.
Though the devs might have had this sort of version more in mind.
Cherubim=Watto
Good background info. I figured there was some meaning to the names that matched advent.
Sometimes I wonder about you
Yes...stand in wonder of me.
While the identification of Cherubim with the little angel babies occurred during or after the Renaissance, it appears the devs are in fact reaching back to the older, more bad-ass version in your second picture, GoaFan. However, going back even further in the mythology, they may have started out as winged sphinx-like creatures. The theory that they are toydarians is extremely recent.
The "flying saucer" part is reminiscent of a halo, however. I'm thinking it moves perpendicular to its plane of symmetry.
All in all, these look great.
Much like this guy:
I must point out that the concept that a Cherubim is an angelic, infantile-appearing being is of 'more recent' nature than the far older, and more traditionally held in the more fundamental Christian circles, that Cherubim are creatures of fearsome demeanor and power- though, naturally, they are nothing compared to God.
I see your Watto and raise you a Gundam
Is it me or does the Shathak-Ovigas look like a bloated Lasurak? pehaps it mave a strike craft releated abilities
To organic for me.
The names on the concept art are almost never the final names - they are just working titles until we finalize the strings. Its always been that way
I personally quite like the names of the three concepts in the OP.
nice concept arts and nice names. what ever names you guys will come up with will be as good as a temporary made up ones
So what you are saying then is the the Cherubim really will be named "The Watto" upon release.
Cool!
Names matter not, i just wanna see these behemoths go head to head.
Also, if the general concenous is that the 'Shathak' and 'Cyhyraeth' are the new Vasari and Advent capitals and the 'Charybdis' (vasari) and 'Cherubim' Advent) are titans of unknown factions (loyal/rebel, that only leaves 3 heavy hitters to show. The corisponding loyal/rebel titans for the Vasari/Advent and the TEC's new capital
Thats providing they remeain true to the above scetchs
Hmmmm.... the Cyhyraeth looks a bit strange to me, in the 'head' section. It might just be because this is concept art and it looks different that a 3d model, but that looks too... asymetrical? organic?
On the other hand, the texture is right on the Cherubim, but the shape feels a little too delicate.
All the current advent ships have a polished, shiny, paladin look to them. The 'head' on the Cyhyraeth looks organic or grown, not plated in polished metal, like I would expect for the advent. Again, it probably looks different in-game.
Thanks for releasing more concept art! I'm excited to see what the Cyhyraeth can do.
I like the general ideas, but I wouldn't mind seeing the forms bridged a touch to meet with current models, not counting rebel departures. If for nothing else, just to make fleets look unified.
Yes, the Cherubim (plural for Cherub) were the ones to seal off Eden with a flaming sword which spins all ways. Think of them as the CIA of Heaven.
And the image of the angel with multiple wings and faces is a Seraph (pl. Seraphim). They're suppose to have six wings. (Isaiah 6:1–3)
All that aside... the ships are looking good.
Isaiahs' seraphim had six wings but Ezekiel's cherubim had 4, along with the faces of a lion, ox, eagle, and man; and calf feet.
Creepy when you think about it.
That's right. I got my faces confused. (How often do you hear that?) Seraphim also translate as fiery serpents, so that would make them highly discernible. Too bad that drawing is off by one feature.
All the same, the Cherubim only appear when something has to be buried. Not Sodom kinda buried. I mean you're never gonna know it really existed buried.
