Talk about a reminder, saw this and realized I needed to renew my Winstep Extreme subscription.
Good for another year.
with all this stuff regarding spam lately, I'm wondering where this fits in. I know that WC has Winstep, so I'm assuming that it might be okay, but thought I'd check in with those in the know.
and how does the misleading thread line fit in to the truth and honesty catagory. this is an upgrade and not an actual promotion, one would have to spend an additional $15 to take advantage of what's posted.
again, I'm just curious.
What........you have to be kidding, right?
Gmc2, not sure what your confusion is?
This is a 50% off promotion for *Nexus Ultimate* (NOT Winstep Xtreme). Nexus Ultimate normally costs $24.95 and today you can get it for only $12.50 from Bits Du Jour.
If you later want to upgrade from Nexus Ultimate to Winstep Xtreme, then you can do so for $14.95 - this means you would end up saving $12.50 from the normal Winstep Xtreme price of $39.90. So you can say it's a two-in-one promotion - what is misleading or dishonest about that?
As for accusing Winstep of spam, where have you been for the past 10 years? Wincustomize is a Windows customization site that was founded on the premise that it caters for all customization software, not just Stardock applications. That's why you have galleries here dedicated to non-Stardock applications (the Winstep gallery being one of them).
Winstep new releases have also been announced here ever since Wincustomize saw the light of day, and Winstep and Stardock always had a friendly posture towards each other.
I'm also not announcing shoes or clothes here, either, but the promotion of a Windows customization application, which fits right into the spirit of this site. Why it even crossed your mind to call that spam, I have no idea.
He's not advertising Asian escorts in 15 different threads. It's relevant to the community.
I didn't say that this post was spam, I was asking for clarification due to the recent posts regarding those issues. I probably won't have responded in any fashion except that I had the impression that you had to have one program to use the other and if that was the case, found the post title misleading.
I don't know anything about Winstep, I did look at the site and looked through the galleries here so I figured it was probably okay but when I ran across the other upgrade tag it seems a little different. So, I guess if you're preaching to the choir they will understand but for myself, i didn't and meant no hostilities to the original post and do apologize.
Not a problem, gmc2!
Here, go to THIS page that explains the difference between Winstep products, and you can learn a bit more about Winstep - I'm sure you'll probably find some of that information useful, too.
Great promotion and well worth every penny. If you don't have a copy, pick one up while it's on sale...you won't be disappointed.
Jorge...on a side note, what's the latest version number? I currently have 11.6 and was waiting for an update to renew my sub.
Winstep has as much a place here as xion, sysmetrics, rainlender, etc. If we can skin it, bring it!
Not to mention the fact that Jorge/JcRabbit is a great guy who cares about his customers.
Those in the know can be contacted by PM or email.
That also could have been answered by a PM/email to an Admin or a Mod.
This is a great dock that compliments windows worth the money
GMc2: Lay off it, seriously.
Jorge is a long-time member and essential contributor to the skinning community. This spam nonsense is really getting old.
Really? I've had it for... 5 years and WB since the late 90's. Never conflicted. The folks I know here with WB and WSX have never mentioned a conflict either...
You should try again.... to see if whatever happened repeats so Jorge can see what's up.
It's a little late here I had misread, it's the winstep xtreme that conflicts and by conflict I mean take priority in skinning the actual taskbar of the shell etc... Nexus on the other hand is fantastic it works very nicely with windowblinds
Huh? Ihave Winstep Extreme. It doesn't give me any issues with WindowBlinds. It will install itself to run NextStart which replaces the windows taskbar but it doesn't interfere with WindowBlinds.
I use the WorkShelf Module, Desktop Modules(Gadgets) and Nexus most of the time. In fact I've had them loaded and running for a couple of months now and no issues with WindowBlinds to report here.
Then you have the latest version.
v11.10 should be released sometime next week, though - which is not a problem for those taking advantage of this 50% off promotion, because it includes the normal full year of free upgrades.
That's why I said it takes priority in skinning the taskbar I didn't mean conflict as in cause actual problems.
It doesn't take priority, Roflmfaoo, it actually hides the normal Windows taskbar and replaces it with it's own version. Being skinned by Winstep so it matches the current Winstep theme, this taskbar replacement is not affected by WindowBlinds.
However, everything is modular in Xtreme, so if you prefer the normal Windows taskbar, you can disable the taskbar replacement feature of Xtreme with a single click. Or you can even have both taskbars (Window's and Xtreme's) showing at the same time (which might be useful if you have a multiple monitor system, you can place the Windows taskbar on one monitor and the Xtreme taskbar on another) - Xtreme is THAT flexible.
BDBF... we have almost identical setups... and I agree 100%. WSX (Winstep Extreme) never conflicted with Windowblinds, DX nor anything else of SD's through all the years I've had it.
I freely admit I'm a huge fan of Winstep Extreme - because it is a superb piece of software.
All Pros and no Cons.... provided the builder module is getting done.
Exactly. I usually run the windows taskbar skinned, and with Bins running along with WorkShelf and Nexus with subdocks. Good looks and optimized for work as well.
Can't think of life without both programs. And don't want to.
That's the part I found confusing because NextStep Extreme doesn't skin the Windows Taskbar.
Jorge, you know how much I love Winstep... but I have to request one thing.
Could you please go over the version numbering?
I currently have Winstep Extreme v. 11.6 .
Nexus as well as Nexus Extreme should be numbered the same, no?
So what is 11.1 referring to? Your last release had them both updated at the same time to 11.6.
I know, it's bad everywhere.
Anyway, v11.10 will be more of an 'emergency' release than anything else (meaning I usually like to amass lots more new cool features before releasing a new version) because of Weather.com's warning that it will cut the weather feed on October 31st. This will affect all weather forecasts in the weather module/widget - and also current weather conditions for all locations that do not have a METAR code. As such, I changed things so the weather module automatically falls back on Google's weather feed if/when that happens. With the Google feed you'll only get a 4 day - instead of a 5 day - forecast, but, other than that, the weather module will continue working normally.
Apart from this, there are some nice new things, to mention just a few:
1. The 'Attention' and 'Launch' effects (which previously were limited to flash and bounce, respectively) can now each be set to any of the 16+ available dock mouse over effects.
2. v11.6 already allowed you to customize system tray icons with high resolution images, even animated or multi-state ones (I believe Winstep applications are currently the only applications that allow you to do the latter), but v11.10 improves on that a bit by allowing you to disable system tray customization altogether to save resources if you're not into that, and exclude specific applications from the customization list (some applications use system tray icons to display histogram data, such as CPU activity, which is random data and therefore cannot be customized). It also adds a new tab in Preferences dedicated to System Tray settings.
3. You can now configure the Desktop Modules in Winstep Xtreme to remain visible when pressing WIN+D (Show Desktop) or when mousing over the 'Show Desktop' mini-tab on the Windows 7 taskbar. Same goes for the Shelf.
4. New 'Start Flip3D' internal command, which you can add to a dock or the NextSTART taskbar for quick access.
5. Docks can now be activated even when running a maximized Google Chrome window that covers the full screen (a maximized Chrome window acted as a full screen window when appearing on a secondary monitor or if the taskbar was hidden. This would automatically disable all edge bump activation methods, a feature implemented to prevent users from being accidentaly dumped into the desktop when playing full screen games).
6. Fixed a bug that caused an animated icon associated to the main Nexus control icon to stop animating after a while, and settings specific to that animated icon are now preserved between runs.
7. More miscellaneous bug fixes and features.
It's not v11.1, it's v11.*10*. Not '11.one', but '11.ten'. Nexus and Xtreme share the same version number to avoid confusion, and understanding Winstep's version numbering it's actually pretty easy once you know the 'secret':
It's simply based on date of release, i.e.; year.month. So, v11.6 means that version was released on June 2011. v11.10 means that version was released on October 2011.
This was done because, as you know, Winstep Xtreme is a suite of independent applications (NextSTART, WorkShelf, etc...). As such, instead of having different version numbers for each app, they all share the same version number which is then based on the date of release, as explained above.
Ahhh...ok... now I understand. I was just reading the version number as a sequential number, not even imagining it related to date.
So it's Version.month of release (11.10)
edit: Year.month (2011.October)
Thanks for taking the time to explain, Jorge. Hope that doesn't mean, "I'd tell you the secret but then....".
I'd love to say, "Now I'll never ask again", but at my age....
