This AAR of my recent metaverse DA game includes:
Galaxy: gigantic; stars: tight clusters, occasional; planets: abundant, occasionally inhabited; my race: Altarian Resistance, Super Organizer, Pacifists party; difficulty: crippling.
I started in the top corner with few inhabitable planets, so I researched extreme colonization before weapons. I grabbed some extreme planets in the nearest group of stars a few sectors away, where Korath were. Sure enough, they declared war, but just after I had acquired some weapons techs from the minor races. I needed to upgrade my ships only in the Korath region. As usual, Korath had spore technology but no soldiering abilities...
The pirate megaevent saved me. Korath spored me, and I saw at least one spore ship intercepted by a pirate fleet. I already had some fast transports in the area and could take some Korath planets.
There were some evil races in the centre of the galaxy, and the pirates weakened everyone, causing some races to surrender to someone. Korath and Torian surrendered to me. The Korath planets had many bonus tiles (factory and research, including the 700% of both types) which explained why they got so powerful quickly -- but now they were mine!
As usual with the pirate megaevent, I went for Master Trade tech to build the Galactic Privateer which also protects trade ships from pirates. It turned out that those (my) freighters which reached other races, were nullified when that race surrendered. I sent freighters to minor races but I had hoped to use them to improve diplomatic relations with major races.
Drengin surrendered to me (thus creating even more pirates!), and Yor declared war. I had to destroy the pirates in my regions before the Yor destroyed theirs; they were starting to get troop transports through to my planets and build up their military. They took, unsurprisingly, a few of my isolated planets such as Toria. My troop transports got intercepted by pirates, even with the Yor space limiting all ship movement to 3.
Yor were rush buying ships, races were surrendering to them, and the Thalans declared war on me. I admitted defeat when we were the only 3 races remaining.
That was an interesting scenerio. When it comes to the pirate megaevent I just can't keep on playing the game. You just have to be so patient. How did you lose it? And how many turns did you make by the way?

Game time was 8 years; the pirate megaevent occurred about 3 or 4 years into the game.
I lost by surrendering. The military graphs of my two enemies were many times larger than mine, their ships were wiping mine out easily, no hope even if Yor and Thalan went to war with each other.
Okey, which race do you like most? Me: I like to play as The Drath. The reason: one is that they got the character or style that I like, and the second is that they have some of the most intresting techs. And third, they can manipulate other civilizations to do as they want them to do, for example make war on the civilization that threatens you. In this way you almost don't have to be worried about getting in war with other races, because they are all busy with their own wars.
That ability is held by the "Super Organizer" special ability. It wasn't much use in my OP game: other races were too far away and too weak to help.
Where be the ban hammer for this fool? ^
I'm starting to wish for a Flag as Spam button to alert moderators.
I'm not even sure the GC2 Forums have a dedicated moderator anymore...is Peace Phoenix still around?? Iv'e noted quite alot of spam of late and when its posted on wincustomize, or elemental, it seems to be dealt with swiftly, but on the GC2 side of the fence they seem to slip by.
Oh and Don, what i do is click report, next to the give karma button and then select "Posted Spam". As i am given to understand that generates a system email that i know Kryo at the very least sees.
Thanks for that information Neilo, I hadn't noticed that before. For that you get Karma.
Welcome. One more spam fighter will certainly clean up the place a bit!
I reported it too, but I wonder if I should have copied the post location and re-entered from the Stardock or WinCustomize forums. That way, it would be reported to the moderators there?
If we're all reporting it from the Galciv2 forums and we don't have a moderator, we might be spinning our wheels.
But if you copied the offending post and reposted it elsewhere, you might find your own post being reported as spam by readers who only see the spammer's link and not your explanation.
I'm not saying to copy the post. The URL has a number in it to identify the post. You can copy that number and log into a linked site. Paste the number into the URL and it'll take you to the offending post. You can report it from there and it should show up to that site's moderators.
For instance, the SPAM post came from the Stardock forums. It cross linked here at the Galciv2 forums where we're seeing it.
<edit> Or rather were seeing it. It appears to have been nuked. </edit>
!!! You're right! Sometimes the system works.
EDIT: Back on topic.
And as a result, it now sounds like Neilo wants to ban the OP. Heh.
Nah, some lowlife had made a post promoting some irrelevant site.

Now Kryo is seen often, and the above stardockians are probably busy with their own area's of expertise, (all invovled in Elemental FE i'd wager) and are bannered as Stardockians not Moderator.there is also c0der listed as well, and bannered as a Stardockian, but i'd assume he/she no longer works for SD..based on the forum info.c0der - May 7 2007 (and only has one reply)
Seems to me GC2 forums are well in need of some moderation.
The software's not reporting karma correctly either, as I see less on me on the GC2 pages than the WinCustomize pages and profile suggest. Though I didn't have any anyway, until the past 24 hours.
No, i think thats be design, or it used to be.
There was some odd karma behaviour, and it still might be in there somewhere. You used to only see in your karma, what karma you had on that site. For instance, if i went to the SINS site i think i only had in the teens, but then on Demiogd and GC2 it was much higher. Now i think they changed that to reflect what site you log into, then it would show your karma for that specific site...
Again though, i do beleive GunslingerBara changed the way Karma behaves about two years ago, since i now have over 100 and i think that reflects karma given from all sites. I'd have to log in and out of each specific SD forum to see how it's structured now.
I do know that your Forum rank is site specific though. here on GC2 i am Veteran where on the rest of Stardockia i am listed as Citizen. The SD forums are a twisted hall of mirrors, easy to get lost and confused.
LOL. I saw the post which has now been removed.
