... though you may not want it to be.
Its now a "visceral FPS" written by the man behind Crysis 2, and will feature 4 Player Online Squad Based Co-Op. Make your own judgements from there. And yes, I'm serious.
At the risk of being a complete and utter cynic, I thought this must have been a joke. Like, for real; an honest to god joke. All we need now is a gritty FPS reboot of Master of Magic, a gritty FPS reboot of Alpha Centuri and a gritty FPS reboot of Chess and the industry will have successfully completed the epic 'Fuck you' to anyone who ever enjoyed anything other than Call of Duty.
Tis' sad to see old good games not just remade and improved on. I'm guessing that the FPS genre will be soon out of juice.
It would be nice to see a ton of 3rd person Western RPGs or 4x TBS games being made again. For a second, when Dragon Age was made, I thought it might be the start of something great, but I guess it was the last big Western RPG. Don't get me wrong, I like other types of RPGs, but I really love the 3rd person RPGs like Dragon Age, KotoR, Balders Gate, Drakensang, Arcanum, etc where you make your own hero and gather a group of adventures in a sand box world with a major quest to save the world. I miss those games.
Something Awful totally delivered on this one.
Brace yourselves.
Populous 4: The First Person Shooter
OMG.....that has NOTHING to do with the original Populous. That dev needs to be taken out into the street and horse whiped...and then maybe shot in the head just to set a good example of what we'll do to devs who trash our beloved old school games for a quick buck.
Lol raven, as far as gameplay, it has a much to do with it as an x-com shooter or a syndicate shooter. Unfortunatly it seems everything is being made into a shooter now because that is what many consoul gamers want.
Raven....look at those screen shots. Don't some of the things in them seem mighty familiar?
I, for one, think the re-boot of Populous sounds perfect! They've really nailed the feel and the atmosphere of the original games, and I think with the EA hype-machine behind it, next year's Call of Duty 9 could be in for some real competition, as well as all of us old school populous fans finally getting the follow up we need in this modern age.
Maybe they'll even re-release the original games at US$20.00 on Origin!
They should do Dungeon Keeper next! Imagine Dungeon Keeper reboot but with the combat of Oblivion - but with guns of course (rofl, who doesn't like guns?!) - and minus all that pointless building shit? It could be really dark and dirty - gritty, if you will. Haha, wow, I'm excited now!
[/sarcasm]
Ahh...lol yeap. See, that's what I get for not reading the whole thread.
Don have you tried "From Dust" yet? It does a really decent job of capturing part of the "Populous" feel, at least when it comes to how you shape the land. Granted it's not quite as "feature complete" as our beloved Populous, but it's on the right track at least. For anyone needing a Populous fix, definitely try "From Dust".
Alright, that last link totally screwed with some people I know...but THIS one is legit, I promise.
So who wants something more like a "real" Syndicate reboot?
I my indie devs.
Hehe, they were joking about making a sequel to Syndicate that would be truer to the source than the one Starbreeze was working on, before it was announced. Now, they're serious about it. The Paradox people are awesome, and totally not vampires.
Nice find, Nenjin
Compared to the vamping displayed by the rest of the industry, I'll take their version any day. Jesus, at least they have a vision that manages to sound compelling on paper. The other Syndicate premise...I was bored just reading it.
Indeed Nenjin, great find. This "Cartel" looks like something to keep an eye on. It'll be interesting to see if Paradox can truly pull off the RTS portion as well and not make it blow as RTS doesn't really seem to be Paradox's cup of tea. I hope they can pull it off because a Real Syndicate style remake would be awesome as hell if done correctly.
After seeing the new trailer for the syndicate game, I too have no choice but to shake my head slightly in disapproval. It looks just like any other FPS game. MAYBE if there's an intense meta-game and some procedural generation (doubt it) the game might be more interesting.
