I really enjoy designer journals, and Stardock generally does a great job with these. It has been a few weeks since the last one.
I'd really like to see the following journals:
1) FE Strategic Layer. We have seen lots of talk so far on units, equipment, champions, magic, and the game world. That covers about 2.5 of the 3 stated focus areas of FE, with magic and the world covered, and tactical combat partly discussed through talk of the units and equipment. I'd like the next journal to talk through how empires, cities, and whatnot will be handled. What is changing from WoM? What is staying the same? We know that some things like dynasties are going away. What else is? How will the often changed, much maligned population / food / prestige dynamic work in FE? Any changes to trade? How about diplomacy? A journal that covers some of these issues would be interesting, and is really needed since there are still lots of issues with the strategic level of WoM, although Brad has been working hard an experimenting with different solutions.
2) FE Tactical Combat: I'd like a full journal just on this topic. Show us how the new initiative system plays out. Show us how the changes to stats work. Basically, take us to the next logical step since we have seen units, equipment, and champions. Show us how they will work in practice.
3) WoM 1.4: Brad has done a nice job keeping us informed on his thoughts and progress. I have argued that we should just move past WoM and focus on FE, but Brad has assured us that his work with WoM isn't going to hurt FE. Ok. So where do we stand now with 1.4? There have been some good threads on the subject of 1.3 and where we would like to see things go with 1.4 I'd like an updated journal on this so we can get an idea of where things are going.
I'm very interested in tactical combat as well.
Less so in WoM 1.4. But, I guess if nothing else then 1.4 can fix the bugs introduced in 1.3, and tweak the many bad design choices made as well.
What I'd like to see is an announcement of the beta starting sometime this year...
Actually I wouldn't mind some talk about lore as well. How does FE relate to E:wom? I'm the kind of guy that doesn't really care for lore once I'm in game, but as a teaser for the real product I love it.
I agree with hearing more about the strategic layer, as I never really got into TBS for the combat.
And I really would like to hear more about WoM 1.4- perhaps I'm the only one, but I really like the game (AI issues and some graphical bugs aside). I played for nearly 5 hours today and had a damn good time. I just wish the AI generally put up a better fight...though I did manage to have an army or two wiped out by the AI at the same time.
I'd like a development journal saying how they're going to fix multiplayer to bring it up to feature parity with single player (and thus be worth using).
In that area, I expect nothing.
Brad mentioned terrain being different and more important in another thread:

I'd like to see a journal explaining this, or at least a big forum post.
I can't play WOM more than 5 minutes without shutting it down and switching to AOW:SM
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
Again, I can admit that the AI needs some serious work done to it, but other than that, I really like what it is. It could use a bit more balancing, but that's not the biggest deal to me.
I want to know more about sound, music and animation. I also want to know about new art renderings like when we get married.
I want to have a week where we just make a wishlist of triggers for possible spells and abilities and quest functions.
I would love to see more Bear Calvary.
I'd like to know which nametags have been swapped around this week. who is the current creative management executive, bluesky thinking co-ordinator. that sort of thing.
or perhaps a video of brad running around screaming "everything is fine" and firing a gun in the air like an angry texan
More detail on the every-tile-counts thing would be swell, but even better would be a solid indication that the spells in Derek's draft PDF from a while back are just the first wave of a much larger spell list.
