Some of you may be familiar with the first mod I worked on, Olympus. In it, each race would receive more or less a titan ship. That said, it was ultimately abandoned because (a) I didn't have much time to work on it, and ( it would cause balance issues.
Titan ships by their very nature can cause problems with balance. If they are as powerful as described, I just feel that games may consist of races to see who can make a titan faster. Now, that's all well and good, except that it could become the focus of gameplay.
I just want to know how it would be balanced... Would it have long upgrade times like starbases and start weak so that you can kill it unless it's supported by someone with lots of money (and who will also probably have a fleet) or would something else be used? I just want to know how it won't be unbalanced...
I don't think they should build titan class ships, it will ruin the game especially multiplayer games. Single player maybe fine, but multiplayer games is a no-no.
However what they can do is instead of each player building a titan ship, why cant they find it? like a lost artifact? For example, maybe a titan capital ship has crash landed onto a planet in the middle of a 5v5. Each team must race to it, dig it up and give it components to build it up. This way, each team has to race to get to the planet and defend it, while also trying to hold other positions. Another point to this idea is to explore every planet and find the artifacts that are needed for the titan ship to work.
At this point I doubt the Devs even know, and if it is that's what the Beta is for. No point in worrying about it. So have a drink and play some more Sins.
Also we already have a thread that turned more or less to this here.
Are you kidding, I thought this would be best for multiplayer. Finally there will be a unit that can bring a game to a quick end if the team that was winning brings it out, and if the losers rush to get it the other team should have a sufficiently large fleet advantage to win anyways.
You're going to be seeing these around the same time as superweapons... and these will have a fleet cost of some kind.
I dunno...who are these developers to introduce a potentially unbalanced ship!? It's not like they came up with the game in the first place.
0h...wait...
Screw multiplayer . I don't want my singleplayer experience gimped because of the whining of the MP crowd.
When a team knows its losing, it will tend to quit by itself, however this will not stop the small minority of captain picards and captain kirks running around the map with one capital ship to make the game longer.
I don't think introducing a titan capital ship to multiplayer will help, as many people who play online tend to exploit imbalances. If the titan ship does cause imbalance, then this will only just annoy people and will force people to leave the game. We have already seen this happen with the overpowered illumantor bug and the other imbalances effecting the game previously.
I gave suggestions for both single player and multiplayer, single player can have the titan capital ship, but I feel another way to gain the titan capital ship online is needed so that the game doesn't become an automatically loss for the team which doesn't have the titan battleship.
The titan battleship can be seen as an crash landed alien ship, which needs repairing. This kind of multiplayer scenario can increase the enjoyment and strategy of both the mulitplayer and single player community. We all know by exploring planets you find artifacts such as 'phase drive' or 'archive' etc. This can be found and sent to the crash site to repair the damage alien titan ship.
The titan would be so goddammed powerful. With the titan most other factions would be a pushover. Once you have you huge battleship repaired, I would assume that most of the other factions would try and unite to destroy the thing.
Have you considered that you might enjoy a better experience by manning up and advancing to playing the game against real human opponents who are capable of actual strategic thought as opposed to playing against mindless AI algorithms? Doesn't it get old watching the AI suicide its fleet on your starbases, or watching the AI completely mismanage its capital ships (so that you can easily kill them), or watching the AI throw money away by building attempting to build a starbase in one of your gravity wells where you have a large fleet? Is it really that much fun pummeling opponents that possess the strategic and tactical capability of a small child when you could be playing against real people? Considering the intellectual capacity of your opponents, how could your single player experience get gimped?
Maybe the Devs will have to add a "Titans Off" game option setting.
What's really ominous is that in an FPS game I know of, Unreal Tournament 3, the developers were all excited about this new mod they were including in a patch called...you guessed it...the Titan mod. The Titan reeked of consolation for console kiddies and proved to be one of the worst additions to Capture-the-Flag I've ever seen. UT3 was already an Epic failure at that point, but it was made worse when most of the Capture-the-Flag servers implemented the retarded Titan mod. (I think the idea was that after you had killed a certain number of opponents, your character would grow to 5 times its normal size and become invincible, and then people would bring their titan character to an enemy spawn point and spawn kill. It was probably the worst thing to happen to the UT Capture-the-Flag game since the release of UT 2003 with its floaty-dodgey hitscan based movement, which was the start of the demise for the once promising Unreal Tournament franchise.)
What worries me most is that Titans appear to be enormous capital ship / starbases. The real risk is that they'll be yet another thing that's countered by bombers and only bombers in the late game.
Nah. The real threat is pathing.
I think as long as TITANS show up late game and can be a game changer, I am all for it.
Just click-spam your way through any obstacles.
Or just mash them out of the way.
That would be such fun.
It's possible to get a superweapon up in the middle game, though. Titans should take significantly more time to research/build than superweapons IMO because a Titan sounds like it would virtually end the game if it's successfully completed.
To be fair, you probably won't be able to get a titan while remaining at 0%
so...... what about the Leviathan classes that dwarf titan classes........ think they will ever introduce them into the game?
I think at that point the planets would cease orbiting their suns and gravitate to the first Leviathan built.
INCOMING!!!
Can we get Rebellion first. I could really care less about Leviathan class ships at the moment.
Hahahaha!
If you will start up the first 20 or so, I'll start up the others.
Nah, more than likely there'll be a specialised thing purely for killing Titans... Like the TEC's structure assult craft
