Background
Back quite some time ago when we were talking about tournaments… WAAYYYYY back when I had that oh so very annoying thread about DG players – tier 1, tier 2 and those to be avoided (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/372184)…
… I had an idea. What if we had a tournament where every player was teamed up with every other player. This means, the tournament will really be about individual excellence. We mix and match teams. You don’t try to form team super perfect – you get an assigned teammate that changes each round. For every win, each player on the team gets 1 point. If you lose, you get nothing. We do this until we go through the combinations. The winner is the person with the most points as they were clearly the most effective on each team. In the event of a tie… well… I’ll figure something out. So, as you can see, this tournament is going to be structured VERY differently than our previous ones. If all is well with the brackets, you will play on the same team with every single person exactly 1 time.
The Brackets
Although it probably doesn’t sound all that challenging to pull off, we actually had quite a bit of difficulty coming up with a decent bracket that would enable us to have the tournament they way we wanted it. Thankfully, sledge was kind enough to help out and take the time to develop the brackets so I wouldn’t be doing all of the heavy lifting here. Please give him some karma if you think of it. At any rate, here’s a link to the brackets. Please take a look to help get a better understanding of how things will work. https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An02sqdF5v-EdG1hLTI1d3prLWpnWUpSRnNrbG9RMFE&hl=en_US&authkey=CLWZtdgO
Be aware that we will have EXACTLY 16 players in this tournament. In the event that we only have 15 players, we will add in 1 enhanced AI, etc
What is the schedule?
We should spend some time discussing this. Technically, we could start immediately. As you can see from the brackets, all you need is 3 other folks online at the same time to get a game in. I propose that we setup some specifics dates and times that will be considered game days. We can all show up during this time windows, pair up, and get some games in.
Payouts will be delivered by PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, get one. If you can’t do that, then you will not receive a payout for the cash prizes if you win. If you do win, provide me with your PayPal addresses via pm on these forums and I will get you sorted in short order. If the needed PayPal email address has not been provided in 1 week, the prize money is forfeit. Cash is rendered via PayPal in US dollars. If you are from another country, the conversion is provided by PayPal. Any fee charged by PayPal will come directly out of your winnings (so its possible the winners could receive less than the listed payout).
Thankfully, we have not had a need to disqualify any teams yet during our tournaments, but here are the ground rules.
Checked the schedule for the first 4 players and its perfect. So has to be also for the other 12 players. Made it more scrambled (you dont play the same person twice in a row), better manageable and easier for Pacov to just put the names in. No PM from Pacov so whenever you give me an adress or a place to upload it, I am ready.
we so excited
OK - sledge emailed me the details and a spreadsheet (great job, btw, and thx!). I'll make some updates to the thread over the next couple of days and we'll pick an official start date and get rolling.
Did I make the cut boss man?
My perplexing 2:30AM response via crazy Japanese video:
I must have her for myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is your fascination with weird japenese shit pacov?
its only weird if it is a Japanese dude doing it, if it is a Japanese woman than 9 times out of 10 its hot
I like some japanese weird things, but this...
Nah - it was some batshite crazy thing I saw through something on cracked.com. I knew synn would get a kick out of it
Quick update - I'll see about getting the OP updated today or tomorrow and fill you folks in on the details, etc. The short version is that the brackets are done and I'm looking for us to start playing sometime this week.
As I expect us to have some folks that might just not play that registered, etc, and other's that will probably want in, I'll probably set a deadline for getting the first game in - if a player hasn't gotten a game in by X date, then they can be replaced.
The only other thing that will be static is that we will have brackets that support exactly 16 players. We won't be adding or dropping from 16, even it it means we need to add an ai to the roster.... brackets were a huge pain, so we are sticking with that.
Updated the op - still have a bit to sort and get the brackets up. Please review what I've put up so far and provide feedback. Thanks
The DG picking is exactly like I think it is best.
For scheduling I kinda had experience in the last tournament when one of our games got delayed. Its a bit tough but we finally could schedule a game with euros and US players. My guess would be that I just do that 15 times for this tournament. A specific time where a lot show up would certainly help making the orga part a bit better, but I guess some games you will have to schedule asking every single guy for available times.
Personally believe that we do not need prize money at all. This is more of an image thing and to get some good games going. Think this is all for bragging rights.
Brackets are up. See link in OP.
Obviously, I still need to fill the names in, but you can get an idea of who things will work.
so what are the rules concerning demigod picks? I don't want to play every single game da or reg And how does a player get his or her number?
I'll assign numbers - it will just be an at random thing (and really shouldn't matter). When I update the spreadsheet, those numbers will just disappear and be replaced by names.
And I know you in particular don't want to be da/reg every game.
Anyway, I was thinking about this. Perhaps we can develop some sort of modification to the rules. Mayhaps the each team will pick 1 player's dg and the other can pick w/e they want? And perhaps each team can decide for themselves who the person will be that will have their dg selected for them? At least this ends the da/reg/whatever game concept and adds a layer of strategy. Let me give you an example.
Let's say its pacov + zen vs mith + jona
My team will declare which of us will be the one you can pick a dg for (pacov or zen). We choose pacov.
Then, the other team (mith/jona) does the same. They choose jona as the player that will get a dg picked for them.
Then zen and I decide that jona will be playing as QoT. Then they jona/mith decide that I will be playing as da.
After that, each team picks their dg from anything they want.
How does that sound? Good/bad? Suggestion to improve? I'm up for whatever you folks think will be the most fun.
or perhaps another variant - each team can pick 1 player that has to be whatever dg they are told they must be. This could also be fun.
Both teams pick the opposing teams dg choices. I want this tourney to be bizarre and uncomfortable, not accommodating what so ever. I would also like to see a rule that if UB or Rook is selected that the opposing team MUST have a UB to counter there UB and a Rook to counter there Rook. No demigod is as efficient at countering UB or Rook as their mirrors selves are.
I dont think it would be DA, Reg or QoT in every game but even if so, then so be it. Although I also think that we will not see UB or Rook. Lets not make it too complicated and just play the way the rules are now.
we practised that once and thats how it looked like:
1st pick for dark: queen
picks for light: reg & da
2nd pick for dark: reg
we had obviousely no chance with reg/da -.- hence no team is gonna pick anything else than reg/da if they wanna win against decent players..
heh - bad example, though. I hear qot/reg vs reg/da and I think it will be an interesting game - I actually think reg/da have would win that match up with good players on both teams. Sure - the team without the qot wouldn't have any towers, but they'd have gold from the kills.
That said, I do tend to agree that some sort of modification would be appropriate so that there always would be variety. Just not sure what the best way to do it would be.
So here are the basic ideas:
So - if we go with the "whatever you want" options (2 and 4), we'll see erb/oak/ub/rook used in most circumstances as the 2nd dg.
If we go with a restricted selection list (options 3 and 5), we'll likely never see erb/oak/ub/rook as they will probably be restricted.
I personally like option 2 or 4.
How is this a lie?
Do you think oculus beats rook early game? LOL
Do you think Erebus beats UB late game? LOL
