Well, the Defiant-class is technically a battleship, by virtue of the fact that compared to, say, a Galaxy or Sovereign (ST) class, it's very stripped down; there are very little amenities, crew quarters are bunk rooms that are shared between crew, and scientific facilities are very basic compared to the average Federation Starfleet vessel.
However, considering its maneuverability, somewhat diminutive size, and other factors:
The Defiant-class would be a heavy fighter or corvette analogue in SW; however, it's also a dedicated warship for Starfleet, so at a guess, I'd say that it's role would be defined as that of a frigate or light destroyer in SW, but it's size/design would define it as a heavy fighter or corvette.
Mod-wise, I'd make the Defiant-class a capital ship; while they did end up making quite a few of these ships, there simply weren't a whole lot built as compared to, say, the Galaxy-class. Part of it is the Federation's anti-war bias, and part of it was the design's usage as a dedicated warship was likely seen as fairly unnecessary post-Dominion War. There weren't a whole lot of very dangerous enemies hanging around, and the majority of Starfleet's vessels were likely deemed perfectly sufficient.
That said, it would probably be a somewhat inexpensive capital ship, by virtue of the fact that it strips out the amenities and comforts that would probably make a Galaxy-class expensive, as well as the fact that by virtue of being smaller it requires less raw materials.
Fun fact: in Warhammer 40,000, the Defiant-class would be considered a rather unusual fighter, but a fighter nonetheless. Mostly because it has active defensive shielding (40K fighter shielding tends to be more in line with navigational protection rather than a defensive countermeasure), and is FTL capable.
Note that it would most definitely not be the only ship to have such capabilities if a Defiant-class wound up in the 40K-verse; Tau Manta Missile Destroyers (which are actually attack craft/strikecraft) have extensive shielding and are also equipped with an (albeit innefficient, short-ranged) ether drive (Tau FTL system). There's also the fact that some Inquisitorial guncutters (fighter-sized personal transport; can accommodate 6 people) are Warp-travel-capable, so an FTL-capable fighter-sized warship would certainly not be particularly stunning to the Imperium.
@Whiskey, I've made the Defiant a Crusier, it's not what I would call a capital ship, I've just buffed it up on more hull & shields to make it a bit harder!

I couldn't tell you what the changes required for the HUD-icons are, but I'm pretty sure you won't need GIMP.
GIMP works good as a free tool for editing images and textures. You'll need something that can handle the alpha channel.
There's no need to overcomplicate mainview icons. Just create your own brush file that references you new tga mainview icons. Then reference the new brush names from your entity file. Alternatively you could modify the existing brush files to map to your new mainview tga. Just follow the 28x28 for mainview and 22x22 for infocard icons to keep it standard.
Or... you can map back from the entity for the main view name to find the brush entry (use a search tool like Notepad++). Then map back from the brush to the location in the mainview tga file. Then modify the 28x28 section in that file with your new image.
i hate mixing genres. Its why I have never really liked AVP or super hero cross overs
its all so arbitrary
Open a file. Hit control+F, and search function appears. To search in multiple files, hit "Find in Files" in the search function.
If you hate it, then why have you posted in this thread?
As an aside, superhero crossovers are arbitrary because superhero comics are often arbitrary themselves. Well-established scifi series, such as Star Wars, Star Trek, Warhammer 40,000, Stargate, and Halo, either have various niceties like weapons yield, ship size/tonnage, and weapons range, mentioned, actually clarified, or given in caculatable incidents.
this is terrible. you are all terrible.
Yes, we know.
But it was still a good laugh while it lasted.
Awesome.
I'll note that the Trek ships should have Dynamic Movement, but not the Wars ships. On the flipside, SW ships tend to have far more weapons emplacements distributed about their hulls than Trek ships. So it's balanced; the Trek ships will go on attack runs, whilst the Wars ships will sit their spitting green death at whatever.
That's metaphorical, in the context of the mod, mind you.
Actually that would be rather terrible, as the Wars ships would have a huge advantage; you shoot off more shots when stationary than when moving dynamically, in Sins. Perhaps it's due to the ships' low rate of turn, but I've seen this occur in SoGE with several frigates, before I made them undynamic due to this very reason.
Hm. How interesting.
In the words of GLaDOS, then, "Food for thought."
What? I don't have a dynamic movements mod; some of SoGE's frigates had usesFighterAttack set to TRUE, and after I set it to FALSE, they somehow magically became more effective and were firing off more shots.
Yes, it is that simple.
Simply set the "usesFighterAttack" value as TRUE, instead of FALSE, and voila, instant attack runs.
Well, it was a somewhat metaphorical thing. Mod-balance wise, of course it wouldn't be green death.
I'm also unsure if the Nebulon B's had green turbolaser bolts.
Side note: I really hate the design of the Nebulon B. It has that skinny spar section. A few good hits right there, and you've just torched that ship into oblivion. It's an extremely unsafe design; I've no idea how it managed to reach mass-production.
KDY only knows how the Nebulon-B has all of those turbolasers and laser cannons.
Anyways, sorry if this has been mentioned, but Theophantus if you are using Requiem as the base why do you need to mess with mainview icons? Unless its just for the Trek ships.
@GoaFan, i used ZombieRuss's Race Mod as my base mod, thinking it would be easier to learn to mod with.
i suppose i should of just replaced the Alliance in Requiem with the Star Trek ships.

I still dont understand this.
"Map back from the entity", does he mean the entity.manifest? Which one do i search for?
"Then map back from the brush?" Same again does he mean the brush.manifest? There are less entries in here. When i do the search and "find in files" nothing happens.
I posted because I do find it interesting to compare. But always I am dissappointed with a result that either does not have enough information to truly depict the face off accurately or simply waters it down for movie or gameplays sake.
i'm interested, I just hate any time somebody tries to do it.
If you recently saw that TV series that faced off one warrior in time with another. there was just no way to really tell who would win. Spartan VS japanese monk. For a start you are talking about a spartan out of formation and with metal gear over 1000yrs earlier than the monk.
Well here we are talking about sci-fi where all the author wanted to portray by giving the ships actual yields is which was tougher than what in that universe. Its all just for heirachy's sake. To add a bit of flavour. Its why you almost never see actual tactics employed in any of the movies or TV shows.
They don't really care about tactics or real space battles. Most of the fluff about the ships comes out as an after thought by some geek who cares.
The closets I ever came to getting a real description of how a star wars space battle worked in detail was when timothy zahn wrote some novels. Then it got a tiny bit more complex than; hey thats a big ship; oh yeah better attack or retreat.
