So, I created "The Kingdom of Amazons" (with egalitarian so as to be able to have only women warriors), and a hot female Sovereign to rule them. I was forced to marry a male to have babies, though. I would send the male children out without weapons or armor and watch them die. Then I thought why not edit my Sovereign to male (in the .xml file) and be able to at least marry a women. This worked fine. Then a male child was born. I waited 25 years and he came of age (time to watch him die). So I clicked on his icon and much to my surprise, he was a women, just like his Dad. Female clothes, body, face everything. How sweet is that! Needless to say he got weapons and armor. I just love this game... brothrs can marry sisters, cousins can marry cousins, with a one word edit women can marry women, and men can marry men. Janusk better watch out, next he will become female, marry a male sovereign, and start pooping out babies in my new "Kingdom of Sodom".
I approve of this thread.
Seconded, Lord Xia.
I approve of... oh never mind...
I approve as well.
...just sayin'...
I...
guess I approve?
I'm so confused
I like this idea! Now I can have my Ice Queen actually "get married" without men WELL done! Must be a shocker for the other kingdoms though... Oh and pics of your hot female leader please
You know, I play muchkin and we never get that sort of twisted situation...not even close.
Funny how a simple game can demonstrate by accident what will eventually be possible in real life through advanced genetics! Then one day Nature will tap the human race on the shoulder and say "i Dub thee Asgard" (in terms of sexuality) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asgard_%28Stargate%29
I'll see your burn-out SG Asgard and raise you the future humans in John Varley's Eight Worlds stories. Never read or seen a fantasy story that had really interesting reproduction mechanics, unless you count Darkover's chieri as fantasy, which apparently some folks do. A game seems as good a format as any to dig into the potential variety there.
Never heard of 'Eight Worlds Stories' but i assume it must have at least 3 block buster movies to its name and 2 major spin off series rite? Anyway, it sounds ahead of it's time from what i saw in Wiki.
I mention the Asgard because they have lost all sexuality and can only reproduce by cloning. It will be the inevitable fate of any race that confuses the natural purpose of male and female sexuality and reproduction occurs in any direction, then sexuality looses it's distinct function in evolutionary terms and such traits are always lost, that is basic evolutionary mechanics.
Varley's only work that hit the big screen, Millennium, is not one of my faves of his and the movie is even weaker. I'd definitely like to see a few Eight Worlds miniseries/series from a shop like the folks who made Rome. I mentioned Varley because I'm pretty sure that the Asgard path to asexuality and eventual decline is one among many paths for societies that gain substantial control over their biology and consciousness. Iain Banks' Culture stories are another take on how a society that can easily change sexes can remain very sexual.
Mods are still of no interest to me because Elemental/Enchantress is so far from being stable, but seeing a mod that included things like magical sex changes might be fun after game content changes settle down. We also had some fun threads a long while ago about using magic to manipulate the offspring of the dynasty system. Right now, though, the OP is right that breeding in the game has some pretty weird rules.
The whole point of Asgard tech was to prevent death, which is the overarching theme of Stargate. Sexuality is just kind of like recycling paper at that point. It doesn"t really solve anything. Just felt like geeking things up.
What you point out reminds me of the original Stargate movie, wherein the longevity of the Alien Ra was integral to the story - and there is your beginning of the idea!
It uses the model for the parent of the same gender; therefor if you use the model for a monster (say a dragon)...
(As a note, my current avatar image is a screen shot of my custom sovereign)
Where's donkey??
The game does not have a model for that, nor does it have a ch... squid model. Not that I ever got around to making a mate. The one time I played long enough to have a child come of age, it was a dragon and the scales used the human parent's skin color (which resulted in it looking like a gold dragon). This may indicate that had it been the opposite gender that it would have been a human with purple skin.
Redonkulous!
"What fools these mortals be." BTW, why throw out the baby boys? Seems like a waste. Why not trade them for other SOV's daughters? Bring a little variety into the Amazon's queendom.
I gave it some thought, but decided it didn't fit the mindset. I had read somewhere that that Amazons captured males, bred with them, then killed them (which I did to the male hero I married after the fouth child was born). Baby males were killed immeadiatly after birth, The game wouldn't let be do that however, so I had to wait out the 25 years.
ah, its a fantasy game, not a remake or earth... have a heart... LOL
But I do have a heart, a male heart, and boy is it yummy!!!! But seriously, I just don't like looking at pixilated men, pixilated women are so much cuter. And now that I have found the twisted genetics of the the game, I can have male babies and stare at them too. BTW, you have a nice pixilated looking icon.
Its crazy you should mention John Varley. i just got done reading the gaia trilogy not long ago, very strange reproduction mechanics indeed. May have to check out the eight world books. most recently i read the gods them selves by Isaac Asimov, again with a very interesting breeding setup.
Someone asked via PM about my dragon sovereign, and here is the XML (I got the idea from a thread on how to make variaous other monster sovs, that is likely no very buried):
... this is from Elemental 1.08, and may not work anymore.
