Some of the games they put out are decent, I agree but their support is abysmal.
The business world is a tough, cruel place.
I will rephrase my statement slightly. I hope they get what they deserve.
You treat people like crap and you'll get your just rewards.
2k forums are useless, civfanatics has by far the largest following these days. I haven't seen dale get any special treatment there, either.
you probably got no apologies because you were, you know, banned.
I've not been banned at civfanatics. It is strictly 2k forums, but I receive non stop warnings there if I post anything dissenting about the game. I also posted a screen shot of getting a warning there just for asking him a question. To be honest the only reason he ever admitted to it is that I hog tied him and had him on the ground with screen shots of everything. I was just putting the final touches on his legs when the Civfanatics mods ran to his aid. A few days later he had to make a big post and try to do damage control. He got what he deserved. Not everyone they cross is a noob like they believe. I don't need their services to host an image or dig up information. Anyone else making a huge post like he did that didn't have anything to do with the game would have received a warning, and it would have been closed. Don't believe it? Go post a thread there and explain yourself to the forum. Let's see how long that lasts.
some of the mods hate steam as well, I think that's what changed their policy. personally, I like it just fine (just like I also like impulse). I remember getting TQ on a $3.99 impulse sale a couple years ago, I literally played it for months! Since then impulse, steam, etc are all great in my book.
The worst are people who trash other people who work honestly and hard and try to develop good games. A lot of such people are on these forums as well. However I understand that most of the time these people are still too young to have met with the realities of working for a living and supporting a household. They also always have a very narrow and unrealistic view of how developing software actually works.
If you realize this (or realize that you might actually be one of those people), I suggest that you think for a minute. Could it be possible that your life would actually improve a bit if you did something creative instead of bitching and being bitter about games?
The average fanatic gamer's lack of respect for game developers is disgusting to me. I hate it when I end up reading threads like these, but sometimes I just can't help it and be sucked in.
There is no need to be patronizing.
I work hard for my money and when I buy a product, I expect it to be excellent and to be provided excellent service.
2K Games flat out hasn't provided that and has screwed over many people in the past.
I have a very simple rule. If you treat me or my friends like crap, I won't buy from you or your company.
There is no bitterness or bitching. It called making mature life decisions.
If I go to a restaurant and get crappy service and get disrespected I sure the hell won't go there again. I'll also make a point of warning other people of my experience.
You seem to be of the attitude that you'd want me to go to that restaurant again and patronize it because "Dammit! Those people work hard and deserve my business! They have children to feed! "
So why don't you take a step back and think about what you are advocating before you come in arms failing, kicking and screaming?
Respect is earned, not deserved.

As far as helping people that work hard and deserve a break, I support KIVA. If you really want to make a difference in this world instead of bitching people out on a message board, I suggest looking into this:

I really don't see how Fallout fanboys can be bad. I mean, the game truly is great. In fact, one of the best Action/RPGs I have ever played. In terms offFanboys who don't take criticism well, most fanboy communities are like that, but I have to say Final Fantasy fanboys are the worst. THE WORST. Many of them even deluded themselves into believing that Final Fantasy XIII was a good game, just because it had the title, "Final Fantasy".
I was a playtester for Firaxis since Civ3, and know a couple (now laid off) members of the team, so I got some level of insight into their development team, and basically I think Soren fucked them by quitting, and left them lacking in real experienced staff. 2k then denied them any real resources to hire anyone with development experience, so they were force to promote an intern to lead developer. The truth of the matter is that Civ5 was developed by a very talented team of graphics and UI devs, but the core programming and game design team was about on the level of a well though-out indie game. That's not to say it's bad by any means, but they simply made a lot of mistakes in the development that could have been avoided if there was any real experience on the team. It's entirely possible that they could have learned from these mistakes and put the necessary polish into the game to fix things, because they are honestly smart and talented people, but 2k double-fucked them by then laying off most of the staff and basically the entire QA department several months before release. This makes sense from a financial standpoint, as the game was "good enough" to release and impress reviewers, while only falling short on levels that the hard-core civ community (who make up a very small percentage of sales) would care about. The game is ok, it just has huge shortcomings that I have no faith in what little remaining development resources they have left can fix. To put things into perspective, Firaxis hired several people after Civ4 was released, whereas even before the release of Civ5 there were mass layoffs. Our only hope is that they will cobble together an SDK so that the community can then pick up the scraps and put together the game that should have been. Nice quote from another thread. 2K Games at their finest.

I say macfanataics or applefanatics to whoever said that earlier. (im not trying to start a mac pc war i know they have there very few uses that are helpfull for graphic/video design thats about it i think tho)
Steam fan boys in my opinion are the worst, on any forum I’ve been on if anyone says anything bad about Steam you will create a rant fest on how great Steam is and that you are a hater.
On top of that , did they every fix the massive bug issue with Metro 2033, were u couldnt take mask off and you'd be running around with a cracked mask you cant see out of the whole entire game from were it happend, on pc version. i gave up after waiting like 2months for it and it never came, tons of ppl had the issue wiht the pc version i was at like chapter 6 when it happend. Just another reason i hate games that go corporate, (for the majority theres always an exception)
God, that is true.
Check out the steam related threads on this site.
"You're a hater!!!!"
"Well, I wasn't at first, till you started spamming sales pitches"
"Moderators, ban him. He's a hater!!!"
I think people who make blanket generalizations about arbitrary things are the worst.
You're trying to claim you forced Dale to admit he was a beta tester? I'm assuming that as you reference your earlier pictures in this thread which shows you getting an infraction for asking if he was a beta tester then his response that yes he was.
Sorry to disappoint, but Dale was never secretive about that. Even in his blog before the release of the game he admitted to being a beta tester.

The huge post he made a few days later (I assume you mean this thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=405192) has everything to do with the game. He explains why he's not impressed with Civ5. How is that different to the hundred other threads by other people doing exactly the same thing? Why does that thread deserve a warning and be closed?
Thormodr appears to actually have valid reasons for not liking Dale, but you just seem to have your panties in a knot.
I've considered making a new civ fan site just to have an open discourse since what is available now falls short. Unfortunately the current version of Civilization is not worthy of doing this, and I'm definitely not a fan. So I'll answer you here since this is the closest I can get, but doesn't belong in Elemental forums.
Dale did not make it clear that he was a beta tester at 2k or that he spoke with devs. It might be known to some, but certainly not most. If one wanted to find out they had to do some digging, and I did. This is what makes him a shill. He argued frantically to defend that game any suggestion that he did not is just laughable. It really is. It's really not even worth addressing because it is just hilarious to suggest otherwise. If he had minded his own business and not stormed into every single thread I made when I found a bug or had a legitimate issue to discuss I wouldn't have my panties in a bunch about it. The fact is that he did, and the second he makes a remark in a thread it's closed for me to comment. That's some pure bs and you might be able to lurk through my posts and find contradictions or what not, but I'm busy. I don't have time to really discuss this here and I appologize for that. My issue was very simple. He goes out of his way to trash threads when a player has a legitimate issue. There is no reason for him to do that other than brownie points for Firaxis on 2k and CFC.
He is clearly angling for a job with Firaxis or 2K Games and therefore he acted the way he did. Treated other people like crap and insulted people with legitimate concerns about the game. I think he'd fit right in. Lol.
I'm sorry, but why does he need to make it clear he was a beta tester? If I'd beta tested Civ5 I'd be too embarrassed to admit it. I also don't understand how you had to do some digging. It's plain as day in the credits who the beta testers were (I think they called them frankenstein group).
I did a 2 minute search on 2K forums, and noticed you've started 6 threads of your own. He's commented in only one, and from what I can see they are very helpful posts, answering a number of questions. http://forums.2kgames.com/showthread.php?99401-Conquered-a-city-state-in-less-than-a-turn As to other threads he's posted in, from what I can see all of them are open, are for the majority are not negative or insulting. For the most part he comes across as semi-helpful answering questions etc. Yes, there's the odd thread where he rips into someone very harshly.
It really does sound to me that you've got a bone up your ass and just want to slander him all across the internet. Yes he's a dick in how he talks to people, but I think you're just complaining about something that doesn't exist in your case.
Well he's going about it all wrong then, since insulting the customers of the company on the company's forums you want to join is a bad career move.
Dale is extremely passive aggressive. At times he certainly is helpful and at other times he's downright nasty.
Frankly, he comes across as being bi-polar more than anything.
Perhaps they were hiring to fix the mess that is Civilization 5 and they turned him down. Hell hath no fury like a Dale scorned. Lol.
Funny - I thought this was a Elemental forum, not the "bitch about posters on 2K" forum.
Thormodr, my post was directed to people who wish a company goes bankrupt just because a game didn't meet their expectations. If I am treated bad, I will not give a company additional business unless I have a good reason to. Going out of your way to start a crusade against a company and spending hours upon hours on forums declaring how evil they are is another thing. I guess my feelings have a lot to do with me thinking that it's insane to waste your time on the internet on such a silly topic. Though I do know that it can be hard to stay away, since I wrote here, too.
So, you're right that I'm at fault here for even posting on this thread. Now that I did write in here, I felt inclined to give you a reply.
Well, I did revise my statement somewhat. I said I wish they got what they deserved rather than going bankrupt. A little Karmic justice so to speak.
There is no crusade here. I am not pleased that they played a big part in the debacle that is Civilization 5 but I ceased being angry about that awhile ago. Nearly 20 years of enjoying the series kind of came to an abrupt halt for me. C'est la vie.
I've moved on basically. There are better companies that still care about making quality products or at least try their very best.
So, it's Stardock (Elemental and Gal Civ II), Paradox Interactive (EU3 and Victoria II) and Runic Games (Torchlight and soon Torchlight II) for me.
As far as it being a silly topic...meh. It's nice to have a fairly pleasant debate or discussion about things. Try to do that on the 2K Games forum.
Agreed.
Shafer fanboys are the worst.
As for comparing yourself with 2K forums, well, my post criticizing Shafer's hiring was closed by the CEO himself... so much for a difference, huh?
