Through 500-600 turns. Figured with all the crash logs I've sent, might as well send in a good news report.
That said, the game was starting to chug a bit at the end, so I suspect some memory leaks are still out there.
One suggestion: eliminate armlets/cuirasses/helms/legplates and consolidate all that into suits of armor. People don't mix and match pieces much, and having individual pieces making scrolling down in the shop when you're leading a ton of heroes into battle annoying.
Eeeek
More choices, not less...
As for the scroll, "easy" solution would be as one I proposed for the Sovereign creation screen in the "Body" department: tabs. In this case a tab for full sets of armour, tab for helmets, tab for swords... Not that the Shoopkeeper screen doesn't need a whole remake, mind you.
I suspected some unpopularity with this request. Seriously question- how many times have you not just bought the full suit?
Oh- one little in-joke I'd like to see- turn the shopkeeper girl into Recette.
I think that is a great suggestion, because it would make the armor balancing much easier and this balance is very much needed. Another advantage would be that it would make upgrading units easier and this is very much needed, too.
Nay on the simplification on armor. (if you haven't already) give us specific armor types that affect specific damage types. Ex: crystal-based armor reduces incoming magical damage.
Include both options. Have a tab for full suits, and a tab for bits and pieces. That way we can just buy the whole suit in one shot instead of picking through all this nonsense, but still have the option to mix and match if we want to.
Please don't eliminate different pieces of armor. I regularly use different pieces from different sets, not only for champions but for units as well. I think the unit design window is one of the strong points of this game, and to restrict it in this manner is a step in the wrong direction.
A new tab with completed sets to complement the already available customizable pieces would be a good thing, however.
NO!!! Bethesda did the same thing going from Morrowind to Oblivion and most people hated the change. Elemental needs more choices not less.
I understand why many of you guys don't like it- but what is the gameplay benefit? Elemental needs more choices in some areas- but I really don't think this is one of those areas. (I did not expect this to be a majority opinion)
You'd still have PLENTY of choices- rings, amulets, shields, weapons (shields+weapons is an area where we need more choices, not light plate vs heavy plate armlets)
Another advantage is that this would make things a little easier for graphics modders- as they'd only have to design whole suits and not individual pieces.
Heavenfall: why do you use different pieces? Lack of funds?
I think this discussion is becoming a bit like the different camps in the economy discussion we've had at various stages of the last while (years?). I think it is good to not to get too defensive. Elemental is improving a lot, just because we fear it going bad again doesn't mean it's likely to happen. I personally find it very tedious to check what armor pieces each hero has, navigating in the list, making sure you buy the right ones etc. And suits of armor have a big advantage over individual pieces of armor - they can have any values for defense/dodge etc. that do not jump in such huge increments for the whole armored body - and there's nothing stopping there being different types of armor (even within the same tech level) that have different advantages/disadvantages - such as better vs. piercing, dodge bonuses or penalties (perhaps including percentages?), magic resistance (maybe even damage mitigation) or vulnerability (some mundane armor could be weak versus air spells ie. lightning ) and high level magic armor could have all sorts of characteristics including magic resistance to different elements etc. - for the right price.
There are all sorts of possibilities.
Best regards,Steven
I don't think that not doing what I say on this is going to make Elemental a bad game, so I'm not going to be mad at people disagreeing with me. It just proves that some, perhaps many people think otherwise.
I just feel it adds some tedium without helping the game.
If this is kept in with individual pieces- I'd love to see a completely revamped and complicated combat mechanism where you get to target individual body parts. That would be awesome, but maybe outside the scope of Elemental. If you're going to do it, I'd want to see it done whole hog, or abstracted.
I only buy full sets when I'm swiming in Gildars (which is not early game, that's for sure). Until then, I buy what I can when I can for who I can. I only need tabs and to not to be shown the items that I cannot buy!!!
Suits of armor are more about the total package. In RL, any weakness in one facet of armor is a weakness in the whole.
Best regards,Steven.
Yes, the total shop experience and interface in Elemental could be improved greatly, that's for sure!
I think if every part of the "paper doll" for equipping was in its own tab (with what pieces this hero is wearing, could wear etc), there wouldn't be a big problem anymore, and intuitiveness and playability would be boosted tenfold.
At one point in the forums i was trying to ask about armour pieces.
I read that the helmet gave full protection against blunt damage, random versus pierce and slash.
Another piece gave full protection against blunt and another against piercing, i think it was arm bands and leg pieces.
The chest piece alway gave random protection.
Was this not implemented? This was the area where they seemed to put the rock paper scissors action into combat and i thought it was a good idea.
This seems to be the idea behind having all the different armour pieces in unit creation.
You want your unit to have a guaranteed 2 armour against staves ? Give him the helmet.
2 from helmet and 1 to 3 random from chest piece gives great protection from a club and staff (3 and 5)
No one ever replied to my question about this so i will raise the point again.
Was this not implemented ?
Great ideas, Glowing Ember! Currently there is no functional difference between suits of armor and individual armor pieces, and arguably there should be. Best regards,Steven.
I do it so I can make champions who look like bag ladies with all mistmatched pieces. I especially like decking one out with a leather helm, padded armlets, legendary plate cuirass, and nothing on the legs so she fights in a dress. Looks awesome!
On a serious note, I think a rework of the shop menu consolidating into categories should suffice to clean it up. Throw a full set menu out there and both camps should be satisfied. I like the versatility that the slots give down the road - +X improvements to weapons, armor, rings, necklaces, etc. The more choices, in a well balanced world, gives plenty of depth to satisfy a broader spectrum of the gaming community. Want to only buy full sets because you find the slots tedious? Fine - go click on that menu there and do it. Another person may want to micro-minage the carats on their ring of power - great, go to town on that menu over there. That's my two gildar!
i have a few suggestions,
Can u please make it so we cant sell the armor or at least destroy the armor that ur champ/sov initially start off with, i just hate the clutter in inventories after buying new gear.
also to help speed it up add a quick move for units and a quick move for Caravans, i noticed that kinda seems to lag it up a bit after a couple hundred turns is the movements that its actually showing u on ur side at end of turn. (a quick move or 2/4x speed up would be fuckin awesome in tactical battles)
im running a top end system to so its def something with the game, core2 quad q9550 2.83 /Nvidia 465 EVGA / Win 7 x64 Enterprise
and please make this game a challenge, im playing on ridiculous on the latest beta , witch is now in lock down so there will be no or at least no major improvements, and im just stomping threw kingdoms with like 2-3 units like a fucking cake walk , this game has defidently gotten better but were is the fun when theres no challenge at all. i dont see a way to lose i could start the game with not a single resource nearby except maybe one farm, make 3or4 cities then roll the whole game with a few good units, (on large map ridiculous settings and 6-10 opponenets) what not call its easy or ridiculously easy setting
