So as of last night I had no issues, data file went through fine, played the beta, etc. etc.
Tried at least a dozen times so far this morning and nothing. Haven't changed any settings regarding the internet, Elemental is allowed past the firewall and I don't use a proxy. Logged into Impulse, all of it. And I'd really rather not try uninstalling the game to see if a reinstall works.
Any advice?
Just updated. Same error message as above. Logged-in to Impulse. Security software logs say it is'nt blocking anything.
I have the identical issue - the folder structre is established in My Documents, but no files. I am logged into Impulse, turned off my firewall and anti-virus protection and still no data file download. I installed originally from a disk, but had updated successfully to 1.09e over the net without a problem.
Tried more tricks, without any success. Uninstalled & cleared out the folders. Tired installing 1.09n and got the "file smaller than expected" message a reported in other threads. SLOWLY downloaded 1.09e, then 1.09n again. Still get the same error message over & over when I try to run it.
(FWIW, I was in the original beta and never had any such error message back then).
After a crash to desktop (that occurred when attempting to enter the item shop with my sovereign), I'm also getting this error and cannot play. The game was running fine (well, aside from the occasional crash) for the ~4 hours prior to this latest crash.
[edit:] And now it suddenly works again. What the hell?
There have been issues with this at several points in the beta:

I have tried everything i can think of to fix my problem with this but nothing has worked. The game and impulse just dont want to talk to each other
I have been having this issue. I have attempted to download and install twice. I am not sure what I could do to correct this.
This may help some having this problem...
I had also experienced this issue only with the beta, and had also changed my login name previously. Even thought Impulse _could_ login it seemed Elemental WoM could not. Changed back to the old name, changed credentials under Impulse (coz I had to) and it worked. The original game was purchased under the 'old' username.
Maybe a coincidence - maybe something more...
That may actually solve my particular problem. If I have my timing correct I changed my password Saturday, after it worked Friday night. I downloaded it on my laptop to to test if it is just an issue with my desktop, if that doesn't work I'll try to reset the password. Kudos and
Yup...having the same issue with 1.09n and I have also changed my credentials. In my case I have changed my e-mail address that is registered with my account.
And I have no way of going back to the old e-mail address, since I no longer have access to that. So erm Stardock....could this be fixed please?

Just got mine working. For anyone who is unable to download the game due to a change in password or username, Shift+Tab once the game has brought up the "Cannot download data file" message. It should bring up the Impulse overlay and have an option to "Re-Login".
Apparently Elemental still tries to login with your old information unless you tell it to do otherwise. Simply change the password/username in the re-login screen to whatever it is currently, and voila!
NOTE: It may still take a couple tries for it to work, it failed once for me before it worked.
"Your impulse account does not have access to this title"
The re-login trick (reply #10) worked for me too. *sigh* I don't THINK I had changed credentials for a long time, if ever. Not for longer than I can remember, and certainly not since the original beta, where I never had this problem. Anyway, it works now.
I'm having the same issue as the person in post #11. If I get the error message and then shift+tab over, I change my name and passowrd to the correct ones, and I get a message that says:
"Your Impulse account does not have access to this title. If you have a serial number, please register it in Impulse."
But it IS registered and stored in Impulse.
What do I need to do? I have tried changing account names, passwords...nothing works!
That sounds like an Impulse error, not an Elemental one. What I would suggest is first making sure your login information is accurate, then restart or reinstall Impulse. If it still isn't working it might be worth talking to Stardock support.
As a secondary option (although VERY time consuming) you could reinstall Elemental and see if that works, however the download will likely take some time (also make sure you download 1.09e and not 1.09n).
I can uninstall the whole thing and reinstall, and the game works fine.
However, if I try to play a beta version, I get the same error. Impulse simply won't acknowledge that I own Elemental when I want to play a beta version.
