... has finally come to the Impulse store a week after its release.
It contains a remastered version of Divinity II: Ego Draconis (which was a great game) and the expansion Divinity II: Flames of Vengeance. The original game is quite fun with lots of interesting side quests and exporation. If it comes anywhere near the 100 hours of gameplay as the Impulse Store description claims, it is a great deal for people that like RPGs and/or dragons and is getting far less attention than it deserves

Now if they would just get Flames of Vengeance up so I can continue on with my character...
SecuROM = no buy.
Then keep it in mind, as the DRM is only for a limited time period, after which it will be removed.

Posting in the hopes that someone will bump this thread when securom is removed. Hopefully it will still be an interesting buy at that point.
Oh, it will get bumped. *bookmarks the thread*
The other option would be to get the disc version (which will use a disc check) or the XBox360 version*, but they have yet to get a publisher for US retail.
* The PC version is not a port, they were developed simultaniously but separately.
LOVED the original, despite its shortcomings. One of the best RPGs to come out of Europe for sure. Enjoying the re-release, there's definitely more polish in the title. The only issue i have is that the rebalancing has made the game far too easy. before, normal difficulty was absolutely BRUTAL, but i liked it that way. it really gave a feeling of achievement. now on hard difficulty, im level 24 and basically untouchable. considering the combat gameplay was my fave part of ED, im disappointed to be waltzing thru the game so easily.
Some of the enchants used by the random item generator had their level requirement set too low, and will be fixed in the next patch. Also, the next patch will add a new, harder difficulty (when the devs mentioned it they called it 'Nightmare' difficulty).
Yeah, the problem is i suspect i'll have finished the game by the time that happens; dont think i'd play it thru a third time.
I was looking at this; I've wanted a new RPG for a while now, and it was either this or Risen, since Gothic IV seems to have disappointed. I didn't realise it was loaded with DRM, though. Guess I'll wait for them to remove the DRM.
Risen is a fine alternative, but i found divinity's gameplay, loot, skill system etc all vastly superior. the ability to pick and choose any skill you want was a welcome change to most RPGs. i like being a duel-weapon-wielding mage who casts priest spells and fighter abilities divinity is also a much, MUCH bigger game. my first play through took almost 70 hours. with the expansion, its meant to be around 100.
looking forward to risen 2 though. it was no gothic 2, but still felt the same. i wish they'd work on their combat gameplay though.
Almost the same here, though it is Exploding Arrows (ranger skill) instead of priestly stuff.
I bought this game a couple of months back (CD), but my laptop lagged so hard trying to play it I stopped trying.
still got the first one runs badly game play imbalanced does the xpack change everything to a degree of not totaly failing Divinity?
tbh the game runs worse for me than the previous, which ran perfectly for me for whatever reason. there are a number of graphical choices to make things smooth though, i just find i have to change them occasionally depending on where i am.
the gameplay is much more balanced, and easier if you're too much of a sook to L2P.
yeah, i think its on a system-by-system basis. lots of people are having better performance than the original. the problem for me is inconsistency, some areas run fine and others not so much, seemingly regardless of geometry or view distances. mostly i can get it to run fine though. definitely good enough to be played a second time.
I was going to buy the original but I wanted to see it in action on the PC before I committed to a purchase. I had seen videos on YouTube and it looked cool. Luckily before I spent the money a friend of mine got it on PC and I went over to his house to see it myself. He's got the same graphics card as I do but with less memory so I could get an idea of how it would look on mine. For some reason the graphics just don't look good to me and I can't place my finger on why exactly. It looked like everything was hazy somehow. I tried tweaking his settings and making sure he didn't have his card trying to do things it shouldn't (he's not a wiz at computers but I'm teaching him as I can) and everything seemed fine there. Just for some reason the graphics looked odd to me.
Now, I always place game-play over graphics any day of the week, but still the game just looked too "off" to me and I couldn't enjoy it because of it. That's sad really because I was really looking forward to flying around as a Dragon and using the Mind Powers or whatever it was that let you read people's minds at the cost of experience points. I thought the later of those was a very Innovative mechanic to include and real innovation in games these days is a truly Rare thing.
Prehaps it was the lack of AA? That has to be forced through the driver (see first link in my initial post for details). And it also looks better with HDR off (and this is a requirement for force AA). (That was the only graphical problem I found, though the 'fog' effect applied to distant objects might possibly stand to be pushed farther out)
the graphics are inconsistent. from certain vantage points the game can look absolutely stunning. i was really impressed with the lighting in any space that had shade. moving in and out of the sunlight in certain parts were really great. this effect at the tower in broken valley stands out for special recognition.
could be worth checking out on another system, just in case. itd be a shame to miss all the funny and hack n slash goodness due to some random display gremlin.
super tempted by this one... booo...
Perhaps it was that. If I ever get out of the house I'll have to swing by his place and try it and see if it helps. I don't really know how to explain my dislike of the graphics to be honest, which is odd to me because usually when I don't like something I at least know why..lol. It just didn't seem "right" somehow.
Does the "Re-Mastered" version do anything to fix it?
how would we know?
It got some changes, but the only thing I have heard specifically mentioned is the shaders were improved so that metal armor and weapons are shiny and look like they are made of metal. (though it sounds like there are other things, but that is the major improvement it would seem)
To bad when forcing AA print screen does not work (it only shows black) or I would show a picture of how it looks on my machine once AA is on.
Edit:
If you want, you could play around with the demo for the original (the demo for the remastered version is not ready yet).

Edit 2:
Now that I have had time to think about, I think the remastered version also had some textures improved and an improved graphics engine that preforms better (or was it a new graphics engine?).
Word on the first (full) patch:
That was from last Friday.
An interesting interview with the game's director can be found at: http://www.rpgcodex.net/content.php?id=213
i think i can say i hate this game, never was and never will be better then beyond divinity, they really failed at the idea of transformation into a dragon only use that for travel and some air combat never get to go air to ground combat . the way you go out to kill stuff and level up feels way to much like an MMO then a single player game. they betrayed my trust kinda like stardock did for elemental but they want to fix it no issue with that now, do they really need to attempt an xpack to fix a horrible game?
i feel cheated of my time and money on how this compares to beyond divinity that was great and fun i have only had issues with divinity 2.
