Hi everyone,
I just searched forum, and read the texturing tut's but couldn't find an answer, so sorry if this has been asked before.
If i open any .dds file in gimp (using dds plugin) it is all or mostly transparent (or black using Irfanview). I can't seem to find a way to remove this transparancy to edit the actual texture. I would love to add a shiny cockpit to my tec interceptor, thus edit the da.dds texture, but it seems to be all transparent/black.
Am I doing something terribly wrong? I tried removing the transparency layer in gimp, to the effect of the image becoming all white. So this has not helped either.
Any insight would be greatly apprechiated. Thanks,
Pantha
You might try the following in Gimp...
Open the DDS image then choose Colors/Components/Decompose... into a RGBA layers.
This will allow you to edit the Red/Green/Blue/Alpha independantly.
When you are finished use Colors/Components/Compose... back into a RGBA image.
You can then save the image back to DDS at this point.
Here's a good resource on texturing if you don't already have it. http://soase.weebly.com/texturing.html.
Note the section dealing with the data channels for explanations on the Red/Green/Blue/Alpha in Sins.
Hey, thanks for the swift reply!
This really helped, in fact it was the missing link. You basically helped me fix all the texturing issues I used to have with this game, so thank you very much.
