Great post! I'd be interested in taking your pathfinding idea a step further and introduce other units that provide bonuses to the entire stack.For example a unit that carries a banner instead of a weapon and gives bonuses to the rest of the stack.
Whilst I think your entire post is helpful, this section really stood out to me. The number of times I've been lost trying to track down the location of a quest is huge. It's made even more frustrating when you receive a quest update after a combat but you miss it because you were clicking through the windows to get out of the combat screen and return to the game. Unfortunately the quest log only shows the inital quest text, rather then being updated with the additional information you discover about the quest during the course of the game. This means if you've closed the quest window before taking note of the additional infomation, outside of a reload there is no way of regaining that questing text.
Sorry if this post doesn't make much sense. It's 2am down here, and I'm having problems sleeping so I may not communicated what I was trying to say clearly.

Nice post. I find v1.09 more fun to play as everyone else probably.
Im having problem w stability on realy huge custom maps after turn 200 aprox.
