The Default Terrain Types for factions would be nice if they weren't all the same (All grassland for Kingdoms, all deadland for Empires, Boring) but here's an idea, why not have spells that morph the terrain instead? Age of Wonders 2 had this, and it would allow players to choose the aesthetic direction of their Kingdom or Empire to better reflect their Sovereign and preferences.
This could also lead to tactical advantages further down the line, different terrain types could be updated to confer different bonuses and penalties to spells, movement, and unit types. Accessory items such as a "Desert Survival Kit" could be added, as well as spells to enchant units to negate negative effects or imbue positive effects on terrain types.
Yeah an excellent idea. We could get more flavor types of terraintypes, and even use them strategically (such as "Djohaal's realm is guarded by a searing hot desert on the west and a freezing tundra on the east, both magically created by the chaneler")
Hmmm that would be interesting, terrain as enchantments that could either be used across the whole empire, or on specific settlements. If you always had the settlement specific enchantments override the global enchantments, that would not only work but could get really interesting. You could create a themed nation with deserts, grasslands, swamps, and arctic terrains, and you could use it to see where city borders clash.
Excellent idea
Certainly better than the default, which I'm not even sure I understand (why would an empire want deadlands?)
What gets me is that at least one of the empires definitely shouldn't have deadlands (it contradicts the description) and it makes little sense for two of the others.
My Deserts bigger than yours..... maybe not... nice spell by the way.
Great Idea
