The tournament began on 10/16/2010. Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010. It will actually take several weeks to complete.
Background
In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament. The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted. The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns. For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Prize
There will be a cash prize > $600. Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament. We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009. We appreciate any contributions to the prize. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.
Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:
Demigod Selection
Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum. Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team. This means you cannot choose random.
Tournament Time Zone
The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time. Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play. However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match. This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility. All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.
Decision Making Panel
This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate. The panel's purpose is as follows:
The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in. We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.
How will we handle crashes
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone. Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.
How we will handle invalid game states
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.
Current Teams:
Registered Alternates:
Please be aware that other players are elligible to be an alternate based on the rules outlined in the alternates section. I've simply left this list here so teams will know at least a few of the players that might be available as alternates.
For any of you that would like to use it, we have a public ventrilo (voice chat) server that you are welcome to use for the tournament. Even if you don't have a microphone, if only 1 person on your team does, it can be very useful to use voice chat (at least 11 of the registered teams will be using voice chat. Why not you too?
Here's all of the info you need to get started:
Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server: http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php
And here's the needed server info:
Server Name: Lagwar's Ventrilo ServerHostname: oxygen.typefrag.com Port: 50216
I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server. Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod. You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3. The password for these channels are demigod. Let me know if you have any questions.
An almost straight copy from the previous tournament. They worked then and they'll work now. Please speak up if you have a problem with them.
1. Any game discrepencies and scheduling issues will be handled by the panel of judges.
2. The default team that gets disqualified should scheduling issues arise is the team furthest from the EST time zone but this can be overruled by the judges and is handled on a case by case basis. If the team local to EST does not provide a reasonable timeframe and available times for playing then they can be DQ. [Assuming a round robin tournament] DQ's are for that match only and may result in negative points for the team and positive points for the non-dq'd team.
3. Round Robin games will be able to be played by any team at anytime since there isn't a dependancy on brackets. Final details to be discussed and voted on.
4. Each match in the tournament will be the best 2 out of 3 games
5. Each team will play 1 round on light side, then 1 round on dark side. If there is a 3rd round, the team that had the fastest win in game 1 or 2 gets to pick the side they want to be on (keep in mind the following rule).
6. The team that is on the dark side must pick their characters and ready up first. Then the light gets to pick and the dark side does not have a chance to adjust their characters.
7. To track your wins, you must do the following - post the replay at gamereplays.org. If you have issues with gamereplays, upload the file to rapid share and provide us with a link. Also, provide a link to the match in the pantheon and let me know if its a win or loss. The winning team should do this for each and every match.
8. UberFix latest version must be used (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/374315). UberFix is a mod that fixes many of the bugs in Demigod. Check the modding forum for everything that is fixed by UberFix 1.02.
How will we handle crashes:
If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match. If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark). If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win. If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, the panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision. Be aware that the panel must agree (2 of 3) that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone.
How we will handle invalid game states:
The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match. If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and we will review. If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team should be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts. Please be reasonable, though. We all know that Demigod has its bugs and its still pretty easy to encounter an invalid game state even if no one has intentionally triggered it. If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof. Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.
Prizes
First Place: 50% of the money
Second Place: 30% of the money
Third Place: 20% of the money
Please let me know if you have any issues with the above.
Tournament Style: THIS REQUIRES YOUR VOTE!
Round Robin - The tournament in its entirety will be round robin, all teams play each other. The team with the most points wins.
Split: Teams are split into groups, each group plays a round robin (minimum of 2 groups maybe more depending on hoe many teams). The round robin results are used for the placement on bracket locations on a bracket tourney with double elimination (if you lose 1 game you could still take 3rd place on the bracket) [This is similar to the NFL]
Please cast your vote, voting ends on Monday night at 11:49pm EST
We will worry about the point system if we go with the full round robin.
I assume that means you 3 are not in favor or a draft, right?
Round robin, there will be what? 5,6 teams? Since it is bracket independent, the eager teams can probably complete 2 team matches per weekend. It would probably be a good learning experience for everyone to play everyone.
I'd consider doing replay commentary. After watching so many of them for sc2, and being very familiar with dg and the players, I think I'd be pretty good at it.
I'm cool with round robin period - but I really don't oppose any form.
As max says, " I win ."
Although i partially agree with you cow that reg can be somewhat countered by DA, the main problem is when the game gets to giants or cats DA becomes very limited. He can't push a lane and he has trouble going beyond the Creep line. This is especially difficult if the enemy is 1-2 points above you and when you need to flag hunt/lock to catch up. Also reg is a much cheaper hero to use with close to a guarantee assist gold on every kill team gets.
The decision making panel will be responsible for:
1. Reviewing any scheduling issues and making the final decision to DQ
2. Reviewing questionable replays if necessary.
3. Any disputes that arise.
4. Anything else that can be added here lol.
The panel's decision would final on all issues.
This is also a non-voting issue. If the 4 guys above don't mind accepting the responsibility please respond with a yes and we'll roll with that.
I feel one, feel slighted not being included in it, since I offered, like, on page 2, since I probably won't be able to play (since Thunder is even unwilling to try). (:
Uberfix is currently at 1.03 and has several new tweaks and is compatible with 1.03. I can look around at the google code and make sure all the fixes are applied (stuff like Ironwalkers) and then try to do an "official" tourny release (possibly with a few of the "outstanding" issues being fixed).
ah - i see. thx hedgie.
Oh shit Hedgie i thought about including you in the list but didnt add you since you have limited bandwidth. hrmmm what to do, what to do.
I guess there is only 1 thing to do lol. Nomilarac, would you mind if Hedgie takes your position on the panel? If hedgie doesn't play in the tournament then he is definitely a great objective voice on the panel?
Hedgie, your involvement with uberfix would be awesome !
No, of course i don't mind, i was actually going to propose it myself. Hedgie will do much better than me at decision making .
So - we actually managed to pair up bad daddy/chiefy/and orion tonight. 1 game they beat me ill and some other guy (but they had 2 rooks and we had so so). Game 2 - it was me/nom/ill (rook/da/rook) vs bad/chief/orion (tb/rook/rook). So, it was somewhat even. Nom pulled off a few good gank kills. chief was holding me back early game in a rook v rook duel. But I think we edged them out in skill level in rook v rook mid game ftw. It was fun, but after early game, we started dominating (put it this way, I bought hungralins and so did nom - silly i know). I never understand why some tb's won't alt their strat and go ice once they are up against 1 or 2 rooks. Freeze and deep freeze are such a big deal against rooks.
Anyway, I still think bad/chief/orion would make a good team - they just need to get on vent TOGETHER and get used to playing with each other. There's quite a bit of dg talent between them. But that said, if you disagree - please form other teams. There are still quite a few folks out there that aren't committed yet.
Thanks for some fun games tonight fellas!
Neither Ptarth nor I really have the time or motivation to 'finalize' it per se, but the RC for 1.03 that I posted on the google code site (here) includes all of the fixes in 1.02, as well as the things I listed in my last post in the Uberfix thread. Other than the item exploits, most of it won't affect tournament play, but this version is guaranteed to not break any of the fixes in Demigod 1.3, where 1.02 might break some of the after-use ability stuff.
I can't win! I give up... I'm re-retiring from Demigod. Take me off the tourney list please, but I will still put in the $10 as promised.
thunder you should play! just keep working on your internet connection, at least you don't disconnect anymore!
alright this is the team i want to participate with. IamKira, Mithrandar and me. I haven't asked mith if he's ok with it, but I'm still going to put us down as a team
You're right pacov, I should have gone ice. That (in hindsight) extremely poor decision was mostly due to having been out of play for a month and being a "bit" under the influence. Still no excuse. Yes, thanks for the good games though.
And I vote Round Robin. The more games the better. Is anyone getting in a ton of truly quality demigod games otherwise?
And yeah, Orion, we'd be happy to have you. I PMed you last night. I'll be on this afternoon (EST) and we'll both be on tonight, if you want to play. (Chiefy will be coming from a wedding, but hopefully he won't be as sauced as I was last night. )
That should be a fun team to play against. Good stuff!
pls do! and talk about the histories of players and all that good stuff and action within. We should upload them to youtube and might get the word out for more competetive players Would be awesome if you have all the software for it
pacov you matchmaker you- you can lock chiefy, Lord_Orion and I down as a team.
Thanks
pfft what happeend to nom, Jon, Thunder? I thought that was the three of you?
The window on Team Nomjonder seems to have closed.
Unfortunately, I'm only competitive with Torchbearer which would severely limit the demigod usage our team could have. I played some random assassin games the other day with Pacov and company that reminded me of my place in the hierarchy of players when I don't have you around to tell me what to do... and when I'm not playing TB.
Honestly I really don't have the RL time to practice and travel to where I can get good internet going. I would have been willing to make time if we could have gotten the band back together so to speak, but I really am not interested in joining some random guys for the tourney and telling them "Ok, I can only play TB good. And I haven't practiced much cause I got crappy internet where I live."
And I don't wanna drag Nom and Jon down the same way either...
