Like the title says, how do I marry the man of my dream?
I would start with a dating website. Play the field and don't settle.
Hire a champion of the opposite sex. Click the ring in his/her action menu. Much easier if your sov is female.
Find a champion of the opposite sex and on his/her action tab will be a gold ring. Click on it.
You may be rejected for being not 'renowned' (? or some similar term) enough. To solve that, have your Sov level up once, while the prospective mate does not level up. Then the Sov is of sufficient renown/stature/whatever that the prospective mate will accept.
Basically the Sov needs to be of a higher level. Then the proposal will be accepted.
Sometimes level ups aren't needed - though I'm not exactly sure what is going on with that (I think it's called Reputation - same idea).
A good reputation is essential to get a mate. If your reputation is below your husband/wife, then they give you a quick speech to the effect of "It's not you, it's me. I'm looking for someone more established... someone who is not afraid to persue their dreams".
If that happens just flash the cash, or in this case 'guildar'. Having about 500 gold in the bank makes up for a bad reputation every time.
What? you have to give them a ring?!? and all this time I thought it was because I smelled funny.
I only played 1 1.06 and now 1.07 game, and in both my Sov started with 0 (or 0.1 in the 1.06 game IIRC) 'reputation', and my intended had 1.0 when recruited. She only accepted when I had 1 (or 1.1).
You've had a mate accept when she/he had greater reputation?
Is there a reason why the champion has to be the opposite sex... I'm sure someone will make a mod to fix this but if its real simple the devs should just remove that gender check... don't get me started on the principles of essence-enhanced fertilization techniques.
I mean, that sometimes my reputation goes up even without leveling up.
Not sure what I did, but I know it wasn't gaining a level since there wasn't anything around to kill.
You meet a girl. Date her, form a relationship with her. You win over her parents (or convince her to leave her parents). You might want to have a trial run of living together for about a year or so.
And then, you decide you want to get married. You ask her to marry you, go through a period of engagement, and have some sort of wedding (in many cases you let the family/parents plan the wedding if they are into that sort of thing).
And that ... is a pretty good guide to how you get married.
Thanks for the heads up VR_IronMana!
(you a black sabbath fan?)
Can you marry off children to other hired champions or to other kingdoms?
other kingdoms? yes. Hired Champions? unfortunately no.
That's a shame. I'm playing on a large map and haven't run into any other kingdoms yet but my first heir is now an adult and playable. I have another champion I'd like to pair him with but guess he'll be single.
I had thought you could only have one heir but my character and his wife now have four. Is there a limit set on how many can be born?
In each game I have played so far, I have always had 4 offspring. And I seem to notice the AI players getting the same.
Also, one of the bugs mentioned before was that the AI players seem to get married on the first turn and start cranking kids out right away, while the player can't do that.
Since offspring need a good while before they become playable, this would be a significant edge, if the AI was actually working correctly (which it mostly isn't).
were you expecting 2.5 kids?
The trick to being married is try and get the first one out of the way as quick as possible. That way you'll have more years with someone you actually like.
A little randomness could also flavor the strategy a bit. Maybe 2 in one game, 6 in the next, or 1 or none on the off chance. And the AI should get the same, instead of always getting 4 each time, every time.
There's a much easier way to get married. Go to Vegas, get drunk, wake up the next morning. All done.
The max is 4 and I guess you keep having them until you hit the max (or the game ends). Maybe the chances need to be lowered again. Then again, my male sovereigns have gone over 100 turns before seeing another female before, much less being able to marry her. It's a sausage fest in my games. Need more female heroes. I might have to make some...
How do you get married? Buddy, you should be asking how do you NOT get married *slaps your back* Oi! I kid, but look at you. You're a stallion. You're ready to stud. Look at him, he says "How do I get married." Murray you hear that? I know! Come here kid, you wanna get married? I'll make it happen *opens door to the library* this is how I met your mother. Now go find her, champ. No, not your mother, your wife.
Don't ever wake up. (given an infinite amount of time he will appear and say yes)
