One of my favorite features of GalCiv2 and yet it is missing from this game - to its detriment in my opinion.
I want to play Elemental as a war/strategy game with magic/fantasy - not as a sub-par Kings Bounty.
Thoughts?
Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing this, honestly. Possibly with an options to change the distribution type of resources from "highly clustered" --> "even distribution." Having said that, I don't think something like this is super-high priority on the to-do list. But yeah, eventually.
I haven't played Gal Civ - I take what you are saying is there is a sliding scale to add more resources, more crystals etc - or what ever they are in gal civ. I could choose to generate a map with more gold, more food, more crystal or more shards?
which would mean that all players had more not just the PC
if i understand correctly - that would be good as it would make for different challenges in the game and enhance re-playability
Suunman, that is exactly what it would do. That way you could make resources super rare (for all players, human and AI) or super abundant and likewise with monsters, quests, special locations.
I'd actually use special locations at that point b/c my map would look like a Christmas tree b/c I'd set it to rare. As it is now, I turn off quests/locations b/c they are in such ludicrous amounts.
Would love to see this future.
There are a lot of missing feature from GC2. Adjustable map features selection, projected movement path and arrival estimate display, sortable city production (I haven't found them anyway), unit search, race creation (though that should be coming back), custom game features (Setting personalties of individual AI teams for example), alignment events, mega events, space stations...
Well, space stations in Elemental would involve a whole mananaut tech tree culminating in dropping the moon on people.
However, a lot of those GalCiv 2 features listed would be nice to have. Particularly projected movement path and ETA.
Agree with the post title, those things need to be personalized. I hate for example when there are so many shards that the top side of the interface becomes just a stripe of shards. the other day when I was playing I couldn't even read how much money I had because that number had been pushed out of the screen by the senseless line of shards (but are we supposed to count them? Why not having a number next to them to see how many they are!!??)
THats the one thing that I really hope they add, theres at this moment almost no personalization of the land I'm about to conquer. If I want hordes of monsters constantly attacking or if I want a map that only has AI to really worry about there should be a slider to that purpose. Same with resources and shards.
Also I wish there was a way to say the type of map it was, will it be many islands or Inland sea surrounded by land etc. Right now 90% of the maps I get by random are continental ones.
yes please.
Agreed. More to the point, where is my end-game 'demographics' screen?
I tacked that on the end of the list as a joke but now that I think about it you could have watch towers, fortresses/castles and outposts in general that serves the same function in the game.
Build them on or around resources not connected to cities to save you having to station units their, or generally make them more effective. Place them in chock points between mountain ranges etc... The more I think about it the more I must have them.
Definately something I would like to see too

Don't forget about 'random' setting for all sliders. I always play at all random in GalCiv... and it's always something new to explore.
Race creation is kind of already in just called Faction creation instead (unless you mean making new base unit models).
Yes I was shocked that the map generation sliders from the GalCivs are not in this.
Race creation is separate to faction creation. You'll note during faction creation you have the option to pick your race, those are also supposed to be able to be created (And have their own strengths and weaknesses I believe).
I swear on some maps I am getting literally 2-3 shards on the entire map, some of you are damn lucky with the maps you are getting.
I have also had maps where there are 2-3 shards at most. This is on a large map. Since you have no idea before playing the map - there is no way to have some general sense for resources, shards etc without exploration and playing a full game. The sliders allow you to have some control without giving away the locations.
