This is not a review, it is a flame, pure and simple. Like many have said, this game MAY be good one day, but there is simply no excuse for any game to be released in this condition. And I thought Empire Total War was a mess on release...
What's more frightening is how many folks on this board want to give them a pass for this failure. I understand loyalty, but don't you feel just a little shafted, here? I realize every game is going to have some issues upon first release, but this goes too far. Stardock won me over with Gal Civ, but they have lost me with this one. It screams desperation, and I wonder if the company is in trouble financially because I can think of no other reason it was pushed out the door this quickly. Any company that's willing to risk its own long-term solvency for a quick infusion of cash has serious problems.
As gamers, we like to admire small, independent game companies with big ideas, because we respect them for not selling out to larger producers like EA, etc. But apparently they can sell out their fans by promising a functional PC game, charging $50 for it, and then telling them they'll fix it later.
Stardock should be ashamed.
Yawn
I enjoy the game, its given me enjoyment... im not giving it a pass, im givin you my opinion.
Ive had more fun with this game then many games releaed this year, even with its problems.
Sucks that it was released the way it was but update 1.07 is great and I am glad I spent my money on this game.
Agree 100%...
While I feel sorry that they are laying off people. They are also gamers. Stardock and their QA people should know what a good game is and when its not a good game. I will agree this game is not bad... its not terrible. However, it is bug ridden and not perfect. The AI is a joke... it is very interesting and difficult on the easy mode but very easy and not tough on the hard modes. Seriously... huh? I love Stardock and wish them well. However, we are also consumers and we also need to make sure our investments and our money is well spent. I demand quality in my products. When I purchase a hamburger. I do not expect only a bun and a raw burger patty. If I got uncooked patty. Should I just accept it with the appology of the management and hope they will "patch" it and cook it better NEXT time? If I was buying a new (insert brand here) vehicle (car, jeep, van, truck, etc) and it was missing brakes, bumpers, and the gas pedal only worked sometimes ... is this acceptable? If I purchased medication that I depended on to improve my life and make me feel better... would I accept all sugar pills? Then why should we accept a game company and a bad product as well?
We are consumers. Games is entertainment, but does cost money. If this was free... that is one thing.... but its not (not for me). I would accept a refund if I could. However, I will buy it (again) when the game is fixed.
Real nice intelligent response. Guess you couldn't think of anything else, could you? Moron.
No, the reason he did that is there litterally thusands of other posts saying the same thing, if you weren't blinded you would see that. Nothin new to see here.
To be fair, I think they do feel ashamed. Brad has as much as admitted it. Not sure what else you are looking for other than repeating what has already been said and accepted.
LOL tev that's all that needed to be said.
LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE!!!

And you feel that your response is the intellectual high ground? Yikes.
How do you know he is not laughing and thinking, "Hey I made millions of dollars and only spent less than 1 million on this game! THANKS TO ALL THEM SUCKERS!"Honestly, I have no idea what anyone is thinking. Sometimes, I have trouble with myself.
Yawn's as well.
I don't. But I do believe in reason. This is not a fly-by-night company, it's been around a while and CEOs, who are responsible to their employees, business partners and families simply don't think that way. I simply don't believe him stupid enough to do such a thing. In the long run, this will hurt them and Brad knows and acknowledges it, which is why he's trying to do all that he can to make this right.
It's simply in his best interests not to try to 'sucker' us, to be genuinely sorry, to take responsibility, and to try to fix it.
They are ashamed, hence the mea culpa(s).
If they were really ashamed they'd be giving refunds. I'm very annoyed that I payed 50 dollars for a multiplayer game that has no multiplayer and can't get a refund. Its bad enough that they released an unfinished game, but to not include one of the advertised features and then not give refunds is terrible.
Since it seems their "Gamers bill of rights" was nothing but a publicity stunt to get goodwill I've lost respect for them.
I like the game. And I play it more than I do Starcraft 2. However there are problems with the game and I would like to see them fixed quickly. But Stardock is one of the very few companies that I trust to get the job done. I have been playing there games since Gal Civ 2 and trust them.
And if they do get the game running 100%. I will spend more money on their product. If they don't I won't.
But in the end everyone has three choices.
Like the game and wait for it to get better. <------------------This is me!
Not like the game and hope it gets better.
I was saying get a refund. You cant get a refund?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending stardock here, simply saying that demand for an apology or penance is a bit late.
And, although I haven't checked into it, I think they ARE giving refunds. At least some of the posts I've read intimate as much.
You can get a partial refund, but not a full refund. I wanted a full refund so I could repurchase the game later if it has multiplayer and is in a more finished state.
