Probably a dumb question, and maybe in the wrong place, but...
Will patches be available for regular download, i.e. other than on Impulse? No luck finding them yet and I'm not interested in getting Impulse. I've got the standard game, puchased at Amazon.com.
Thanks!
Nope.
Why don't you want impulse? You don't need it running to play and it is not obtrusive at all. All you do is login, grab patch, leave. You can uninstall it then if you wanted.
As woca said.
1. Install impulse
2. Patch game
3. Uninstall impulse
4. Game will still run
Problem is that you will have to do this on every patch. My advice would be to install Impulse and only run it when you want a patch.
OK, I get it. Thanks everyone.
Actually, Brad has mentioned a couple times that they will be making DVD updates every so often that will include all the latest patches. These DVDs are being made for people like the poster who don't want to update via Impulse and/or don't have internet access. Stardock hasn't given a specific time-line on when the first one will be available, but Brad suggested it would be sooner rather than later. I'm not sure how one orders a "Patch DVD" or if it costs any money. If you email SD they should know more.
I thought the new DVD was just a new 'Gold' edition for stores so the game needed less patching out of the box.
I'm fairly new around here though, so I probably missed something somewhere. (that never happens.......right?)
some people just do not want extra stuff on there computer like steam or impluse some people have one and dont want othere.
some people buy a dvd or cd in retail so that they do not have to install some software download program.
reason enough that person just dose not want it should be enough of a reason in its self.
actully i dont know why they dont have a log in area, so that you buy game regstier it log in and able to access downloads with out a software distrubation program.
for my self its not big deal but I do get point that some people just get sick of these things what ever iever softare game make made there own veirson of impluse if you ad 20 games by 20 diffrent softare provides you could end up with 20 diffrent download applications
Life's a game of compromises. Some people might not want Impulse on their machines, but Stardock wants to keep updates to those who should get them (people who paid for the game). If it's "enough" that someone doesn't want Impulse for no reason other than not wanting it, it's certainly more than enough for Stardock to ask that people update through Impulse for many good reasons that aren't just "because".
Because once you download it, what's stopping you from re-uploading it on one of the countless sites like megaupload, rapidshare, etc where people who don't own the game can get it?
We won't start mailing patch CDs until we've stopped updating so frequently. At the moment, it's far more convenient to have Impulse installed.
