So, i moved impulse + Elemental (my only impulse game) from my default D:\programfiles(x86) to c:\games, because I wanted to test loading performance on an SSD vs raptor.
My problem is, I can't get impulse to realize that Elemental is there, and I can't get it to reDL/install into c:\games. I've gone to preferences and changed my DL/Temp/Install folders all to C:\games, and still nothing. If I completely remove Elemental from my system, then redownload it, it goes back to my d:\programfiles(x86) folder.
I currently can run the game by just finding it + running elemental.exe, but updating/patching seems to be my problem.
Should I just uninstall Impulse + Elemental, then use a reg-edit program to find and remove all traces of it, then start from scratch? Is there another fix?
I'd like the fairly standard option to choose an installation path too.
eh.. there's an option in impulse to set your default installation directory
that is.. before you install the stuff
preference -> adv settings ->folders -> install locations -> my games.. (also tick the prompt for install directory if you want)
no idea about the other stuff...

doesn't help the original poster.. might help the 2nd.
there's also something called detect application... no idea what it does.... maybe it'll help.. or maybe it'll screw everything up
I'd like this option too. The "Program Files" directory is too much of a protected area by Windows that it makes it difficult to change files. I'd like to be able to put it into "C:\Games" as well, like in beta.
well.. that's the thing.. it's already there. custom installation path that is. and as i said above.. no idea about moving it
Moving an installed program pooches your registry as well...why would you want to do it? You should uninstall the game and reinstall it if you want to move it. I never install anything in program files or on my C drive at all. That comes from years of experience with Win 95-98 and constant re-installs of the OS. When I installed the game it asked me where it wanted to go, maybe that's a setting in Impulse because I never install to default locations.
I moved the game folder in it's entirety to another drive, and there's an option in Impulse that tells it to find or re-associate or something like that and then you simply browse to the new folder location. Worked for me, took a whole 30-60 seconds.
awesome, sounds like i'm just too Helen Keller to find the re-associate command
Found it. Top left of Impulse window, left of Explore, is a icon of a piece of paper. Click this, then click Detect Application... Here you can manually select which game you have installed, and where it is located. This fix worked for me. Thanks Alborrelli.
I'm at work, so I can't remember the exact name, but I'm pretty sure it's in the first drop down menu (one on the far left).
I found that I had to repatch.. but it was at the very beginning, so I'm not 100% sure I even patched to begin with.
Glad to help Helen.
**after seeing your 2nd post.. yep that's it!**
i was also thinking.. you don't have to d/l the thing again... you can archive the thing and then move it to a different machine even, no?
anyway. you figured it out.
