At one time I had read a post on this forum about (theoretically) using the spore creature creator to start a 3d model and then importing that into a true modeling app to finish it up. Does anyone know if this will work? Which app would I need to do this with Elemental?
thanks for any help you can give
Is that even possible? If so, that'd be pretty cool. Not sure how you'd do skeletons or animations for units though.
I don’t know if it is possible but the way this post talked it was supposed to help with the harder part (maybe generates the skeletons, etc) of getting the model started and then you could finish it in a true 3d model app. I was interested as I don’t know that much about 3d art and don’t really want to have to devote too much time to learning, but it would be nice to add assets into the game.
May only have been a pipe dream post.
It's definitely possible.

I don't know how EA feels about modders using it for other games, but they put it out there. I don't see why you couldn't use it as a starting point for a mesh. Exports are going to need lots of editing, so who's to say it's a product of Spore in the end.
Thanks Otaku!
Technology wise, it's easily done and possible. Other reasons though, I suppose how much you tweak and use it as a base. If you just do one or two things or whatever, use the same textures, etc, then there may be some minor troubles involved. If you really change things up, use your own textures, etc, then it should be fine as you'd be doing little more than 'sketching' it out in Spore.
At any rate, you'd probably at least have to really clean up the models. They don't always come out clean. Plus, since Elemental is played much more often far away, you could likely take out a bunch of polys to help optimize it.
