So I have not gotten to play much but I've got one goody already:
So I've got Magnar for a neighbor and he is being surprisingly friendly given our alligiances, inviting me to send over caravans and all that. Of course once I do he decides to attack me, which is cool, let's call it deception. Good strategy.
Well right about that time I had started construction of a team of 4 mace wielding, heavily armored warriors, but they would not be built in time to stop his armies... so he hits me with one more or less equal to my town. My town was nothing but "peaceful" recruits (a farmer, a merchant, a scholar) and my main character with a sand golem. Also I had maybe a couple of really primitive archers and peasants.
So we repell the attack despite equal numbers, because we have walls of course. Then he hits me with another group equal to mine, and we win. This happens once more and finally he shows up with his own group. I say "well it is ok if I lose, I need to go to bed anyways" but BAM, his soldiers die and he is left standing alone outside my town. I send out my sand golem and all of a sudden Magnars entire empire is gone.
Any crazy A.I. stories of suicidal tyrants or impossibly tough foes?
Also It should be cool when a mod makes the sovereings less "do or die" by having you wipe out all towns or all nobles instead. I want to be able to kill a king but still have to fight the kingdom like in my favorite game (Medieval Total War 2).
I had the sovereign of Krax decide that rather than build a city, he'd just stand on my border for a few years issuing demands for money. Eventually he declared war, so I sent out my summoned bear who tore him to shreds. Cue "The Krax empire has fallen" message. Obviously the guy had a bit of an ego, declaring himself to be an empire.
In Medieval Total War 2 you could take out an empire by assassinating everyone in the royal family. I personally confirmed this...though the crappy random seeds on some of that made it more than a little difficult.
What do random seeds have to do with that?
Double post
LOL
haha, good story. So far nothing spectacular in my game. The AI certainly seems smarted then in beta.
I believe that the "random seeds" alidardeath was referring to was the "chance" the assassin would get in accomplishing his or... his mission. You'd have between a 10-90% chance of success depending on the target, location, and experience of the assassin. It was a dangerous time to be an assasin back in those days...
My assassins kept failing with 90%+ chances! (Also tried to save and reload a number of times to no avail. You can get different outcomes that way...but IMO it would take too long to be worth it) I weaned the baby assassins on the units with no commander, you could assassinate the default one with good chances and it was a good way to improve their skills. I did take out one nation and the pope 3 times though!
Ahhh, Medieval II, good times...
The bear kill is pretty awesome... take that you crazy homeless emperor.
I kind of learned how to gain the system in medieval 2 with my assassins but I agree that sometimes it was hopeless. Still nothing like blasting a member of the royal family (total one in 100 shot) with a flaming ballista bolt in terms of pruning the royal family tree.
I'm liking this forum btw, I feel like I can mention any strategy (especially war) game and people played it. Nice community.
Edit: BTW the new patch changes the AI so some part of me wants to get in a few more matches while my opponents are not yet on meds.
The new patch brings in some ever more interesting behaviour. I started a game sandwiched between two Empires and two minors. I see the Empires expanding, and then for some reason I notice the sovereign and his wife strolling around. They climb a hill overlooking my capital, sit there for a few turns and then declare war on me.
Guess that new mine I built must have spoiled their favourite view or something.
So they run back to their lands with my army in hot pursuit, and I notice on the way the sovereign of the other empire is also wandering around accompanied by his wife. Guess the AI couples just love going for romantic strolls through the wasteland.
Also for some reason Altar insists on hunting down my caravans with catapults. Given caravans are pretty weak this isn't a bad idea, except I can't help but think it might be better off actually attacking my fortified cities with those catapults instead of sending the odd spearman party to die at the walls.
This kinda worries me. With the slashes made to MP for the sake of stronger SP gameplay, a weak AI is not an option.
In my test game, Relias declared war on me for no reason. I figured, it's okay - we live in brutal times. But then his attacks on my city consisted of lone champions (is that the right term) attacking without support. They weren't especially good at it either.
the Day 0 AI isn't in yet. Critique then. Hold your tongues!
They're not champions, they're soldiers. The AI for some reason likes to give all it's troops a name. It'll definitely attack with groups, assuming of course it has the tech.
Very strange!
And I will hold my tongue. I will wait to see what the first update is like and go from there.
I had a similar experience in my game last night. Neutral AI sovreign demands 7 (yes a whole 7!!) gildar from me. I tell him to bog off. He declares war and camps with his sand golem outside my main city, but within my influence zone.
The only problem with this strategy being that he had 1hp.
EDIT: So this isn't meant to "bash". I am sure that the day zero and "big" patch will improve things.
Yeah, this thread is in a playful spirit, hence the fact that nobody has said anything too negative about the game itself or the creators.
That said I find the 7 gildar tyrant to be really funny... I had a lot of "beggars" in civ 4... civilizations that fell hoplessly behind but they kept demanding stuff. "Sure, I'll give you the compass... I mean everyone else has planes already"
Have not run into anything too crazy on my other games except maybe the fact that I was "evil" (a Magnar) in a recent game and the two good factions cowered behind me the whole game like I was there to protect them. Did not work out for them once I had enough soldiers.
