With all the work going on with TSOP, some suggestions for addons have been floating about. Perhaps some of those can be covered here and keep the TSOP thread less cluttered.
So I'll open this thread with the AI comment I was starting on with in the TSOP thread.
Hey I know its not a bug but if you want to fix things in gameplay.constants, I should mention I've been testing AI profiles hundreds of hours worth of play time. I've made just 3 tiny changes in the AI profiles, and the result is the fortifier AI is now the strongest when I let 9 AI's play FFA ( 2 of the 3 changes are for him ), and the aggressor can now often win larger games as well. These changes involved letting those 2 profiles get a little more economy and research going, they were too one-dimensional.
Obviously, this is a gameplay change, but for the better. Who doesn't like a stronger AI?
Perhaps we should a new thread for this and some other add-on topics, so as not to dilute the conversation on TSOP?
I also made an improvement in the AI elsewhere by making the last expansion for fleet capacity depend on having the 2nd to last capital ship crew expansion (13) first. This way the AI couldn't race to hamstring itself with the worst possible tax rate while not even bothering to build up its capital ship fleet. If the AI can't see a need to build 13 capital ships yet, it doesn't need to fork over 75% of its income just to have another 40 frigates to play with.
I can't see this dependency inconveniencing the human player any in games versus AI's. What human player in that situation wants to build up as many frigates as possible at the expense of maximum tax rate before getting all 16 capital ships?
what tetrahedral mine?
also are you planning to release these changes. I would love an AI which could beat me on merit rather than on resorce bonuses.
Sure I'll release anything I've made that people have an interest in. Even if its just one person, I can just email them a copy.
This AI isn't hugely different from before, after all, its the Sins executable that determines their basic playing style. I fooled with the weights on the various ways they can spend their resources, and got substantial improvements in overall AI performance by removing a couple of bottlenecks.
sounds interesting.

i shal be following this with interest, also, does anyone know how to up-scale a ships apearance?
as in, make it larger? with the reduced trade/foundry ships i was hoping someone would be able to make the tec's foundry ship at least larger, possibly also their trade ships by 40%* so from 100% to 140%
from memory there is neoborg's resize tool here in the modding threads for altering the size of meshes. I have not used it , but have seen it mentioned over the years as suitable for what you want to do.
its on the http://soase.weebly.com/modding-tools.html
Edit sry wrong tools page its http://soase.weebly.com/modeling-tools.html
thanks! found it, got it to work, looks too big on the trade ships, will try the foundry ship as soon as i can FIND the bloody thing, will edit and report on findings .
edit 2:right. ended up mini dumping, probably did something wrong, i could nicely convert the mesh from the TSOP project one, but i could not i think convert the foundy one, which i had to get from the originate files. i probably needed some form of in between step ?\
cant get it to work, is it because of the bin stuff inside the files instead of txt ?
from what I remember about the neoborg resize tool it DOES need the text mode mesh,
but there are TWO answers to the bin to text issue,
bcxtreme's utility OR
my textbin gui which is in my modding utilites pack.
bcxtreme's thing did not work at all, will try yours now and an endit this post about progress
edit 1: the bloody thing did not have a whats it called in english? container file? map? you know you put paper in it ? and op pc it cointains files? well anyway that
the zip/rar did not contain it , and so my entire screen got filled with files. verry funny .. not -continues with trying to get it to work-
and my gui is an INPLACE conversion only.
meaning ?
edit: ps. how on earths name do you get it to work harpo ? i gues i have to use dos? ( or the nowadays version that looks like dos ) and if so, how ?
my utilities ARE ALL windows executables, just extract all the files in the rar to a folder OR usb stick and doubleclick on the sins textbinner.exe to start the converter then select the mod's folder you want to convert and the type of files to convert, then click on the convert this folder button, the the convert the files now button and wait till it tells you it has finished and how long it took.
the inplace conversion means it does NOT copy the files to another location then convert them, but does the conversion in the same location the file is
got it to work, the refinery ship looks fine at the new size , only problem, its texture loocks kinda meh now. maybe because of tsop removed some quality to speed stuff up, will look into that but for now, whoevers interested can use the 'my ship has 100% more capacity' tec foundry ships

( so its a size increase of 40,4 procent, )
Be careful of Newbeorg's resize tool, i re-downloaded recently to work on a new mod and got 2 spyware bugs. I went online to other sites and they were infected as well. Get Malwarebytes off download.com and scan your pc. Sorry to bring bad news, but just wanted everyone to be safe.

Old post, I know, but its the only one that mentions Newbeorg's Resize Tool and Spyware.
So, I tested it on VirusTotal.com, they used 43 different up to date anti-virus programs to scan it. Came back clean.
Also used Superantispyware, that didn't detect anything. Nor did Comodo Cloud scanner.
Newbeorg's Resize Tool, maybe its a false positive.
But on the off chance that its not I told comodo firewall to isolate it from the system whenever it's run.
I hope that does the trick, just in case.
If you are running BcXtreme's in Windows 7 64 bit you need to run it in compatibility mode as an administrator. FYI. Harpo's works perfectly too and as far as I know requires no tweaks. ZombieRus has several tools (as does Harp) that run in the Eclipse java environment..
my utilities are ALL written as stand alone utilities for all flavours of windows ie xp32 vshita 32 bit & 64bit and win7 32bit and 64 bit, and do NOT need or use ANY development environment or other runtime environment
