Why not a Mod based upon races and ideas from the Cthulhu Mythos ?
Perhaps with a "Dreamlands" basis, as EWOM will be a more fantasy based system.
Mythos "Deities" and Great Old Ones could be powerful non-standard unit "creatures" that could be "recruited" or unleashed by the players.
Races would be based upon those found in the Dreamlands, including: Human; Ghoul; Gug; Moonbeast; Nightgaunt, etc.
The Kingdoms would be those races that have some conncetion to maintaining life, sanity, existance. Thus Human, Nightgaunt; Ghoul, would all be seen as "Kingdom Races"
Anyone interested in a possible collaboration ?
To stay true to the mythos, you would have to change the gemeplay significantly. Lovecraft's works aren't just about the fact that these races exist and war each other, but about the inability of man to cope with this reality. A game where the Sovereign is an investigator and trying to stop the rise of an Old One while staying sane could be fun. A mundane setting, most of the fighting is with cultists or other normal creatures, with fantastical beasts hinted at until finally the player reaches the ancient temple, sees your terrible attempt at modeling, and goes insane because the geometry is all wrong.
My idea was to use the Dreamlands setting..... Outer gods, Earth's Gods ( Bast; Thoth ); Great Old Ones all can come into play..... But in the Dreamlands, time and space function differently ( More like a traditional "fantasy" setting). Additionally, say the idea is that a devastated Dreamlands of the future was being rebuilt by new "Dreamers" (Sovereigns)......
Since you "create" things in the Dreamlands by the "power" of your dreams, you "pick" a race to lead the fight to "re-create" the Dreamlands in your own image...... Of course, greater powers (if found and unleashed ) could disrupt not only your plans, but that of your enemies as well. Dare you awaken Nodens, and risk being lost in space and time ( teleported to a random location on the board w/ no clear way back )? Dare you summon Bokrug and face the possible destruction of your enemies cities ( several turns after you have been defeated ) ? What if you met Nyrlothoptep. Do you accept his offer of Technology, knowing it could destroy you, your people and the fabric of reality itself ?
The Dreamlands setting offers all of these possibilities.....
That sounds A LOT like a Persona mod I was thinking of creating ...
Awesome
I suggest that you play a great old one and that therea are many dimensions you can travel to.
