This is probibly the newbiest of noob Q's, but I can't seem to find anyhelp anywhere else. I'm new to the game abviously.
I've built some Influencial Starbases in my game, and they seem to have empty modules. It says I get a max of 5. I can't seem to find anyway to put any modules onto my made starbases. I don't even know how to add wepons to my starbases. I also can't find any templates for starbases. Am I doing something wrong with how I'm making my Contructor ships via starbase creation?
You need to send another Constructor to that base, upon reach a popup will let you add one module. What modules you can add depends on the techs you have already researched, some "yellow" techs enable you new influence-increasing modules on Influencer Starbases.
Factory techs unlock planetary enhancing modules on EconStarbases, as well as Freighter-income can be increased.
On Military Starbases you can add ship-support modules, such as increased speed or attack/defense. This is research by the "Starbase Defenses - Starbase Conquest Strategy" branch of the tree, as well as all 3 red weapon-branches.
Generally you can add some additional Att + Def on all 3 (4 if you count Resource Starbases as well) of these above mentioned bases, by researching "Starbase Fortifications" brach.
Lots of folks generally abandon most bases because of their inefficiency, but they can be plenty of fun to manage also. If you're going for them you might want to get some upgrade in Miniaturization-techs and built Tiny Constructors solely.
Possible suggestions for these bases would be
to set up an Über-research/prod-system with a ring of EconStarbases in a system with decent tiles
flipping allied planets by building Influencer Bases *directly* at these planets
setting up a web of Military Starbases and lurring the enemy fleets there by having an empty planet or a ship with special-module equipped, and trashing them to dust with the sheer force of your Tiny Fighter Starbase-swarm. This I like most
This data is pretty old but it's a good summary of all the different modules that can be placed on the 4 different types of starbases, Military, Economic, Influence and Resource Mining.
One of the biggest confusions new players make is between the Military SB modules that increase the attack and defense value of your own ships in their area of influence (AOI) versus battle modules that can be added to *any* SB and are used to protect or defend the SB in case of attack. BTW most folks believe that these types of modules are a waste of time and SB's are better off being protected by a top line fleet of attack ships.
So basically Military SB's increase the attack/defense value of your ships that are in the SB's Area of Influence (AOI) and while I have seen people actually use this in an offensive and defensive manner the most common usage of them is to increase your the military component of your overall score.
Economic SB's can be used to increase the value of trade routes and I've seen folks spam a bunch of them along a single trade route and get pretty sick values of trade but the more normal usage is to surround a PQ32 with 16 econ SB's to create a uber tech planet or uber production planet since the max econ modules from 16 econ SB's can give a single planet a 384% research or production bonus.
Influence SB's can be used to rapidly flip a sector of planets and there are two paths of modules one path based on the diplomacy branch of the tech tree and the other based on the Xeno Business branch of the tech tree. However the modules that are enabled by the Xeno Business branch of the tech tree are much more effective giving a total Influence bonus of 275% versus a total Influence bonus of 62% for the modules enabled by the diplomacy branch. The diplomacy branch modules can safely be ignored.
Finally Resource base modules allow you to get the max bonus out of your resourses which are probably the most important SB's in any game.
So here's the data, like I said it's awful old but still surprisingly useful.
BTW here's what you can do with an array of 16 econ SB's around a good sized planet. I've seen up to 20K RP's per turn if you get lucky with the number of Research mining resources, but this is the best I've had.
Yesterday evening I thought it would be time for Mumblefratz to get away from this wreck-and-lumber off-topic section and return to the MV, and here you are. And excellent as always.
I thought starbases were limited to 4 a sector.... Was I misinformed by thinking that the affect of the SBs are limited to the sector they are in?
The effect of a starbase is what is within the solid colour circle when you click on the starbase.
I beleive what you are reffering to is the effect of influence starbases. The percentage of the influence they raise is taken from the planets in the sector the starbse is in.
cheers
thanks, you are a pillar of strength and integrity
It is. Still SB's from sectors besides can influence as well. Some info:

Actually I have been trying to motivate myself to get back into playing recently. I had some PC problems that have caused me some pause and also I had only played DL and was trying to get into DA when a bad case of ennui hit.
I do have two new 24" 1920x1200 monitors coming next Monday and I hope to resolve my migration to a new security suite by then although I'm also going to have to do some PC setup for my wife as well.
I think I have a good idea of how to get going on DA, and perhaps I may even provide a slight amount of competition but I don't think I can really compete with playing as the Arnor against 9 Dread Lords as you can in TA with extreme ARC.
For what it's worth, Mumble, the game you're referring to is a DA game, not TA.
I believe a DL million player such as you won't find it hard to compete; AFAIK DL is hardest as it lacks a lot of stuff upon which score is founded... planet count, SA etc pp. In fact I believe you will break RH's 1.58m top-score game, if you just apply your tactics to DA as perfect as you did in DL. Wish you all the best (EconBoom) on this way.
However there's one thing that most people don't realize about the version of the game that I played (v1.4x) versus the version that's bundled with DA and TA.
Quoting a point you made from the ZYW thread.
As to why I stuck with DL v1.4x so long it was basically because I didn't like Stardock Central (SDC). Finally when Impulse came along I liked that even less so just before they dropped support for SDC I finally downloaded SDC to install the latest TA/DA/DL bundle that they had at the time and then uninstalled SDC. Of course no one mentioned that when you uninstalled SDC it happens to delete your game serial numbers from your registry. I had a 960K DL v1.4x game that I had stared prior to the upgrade that became unsubmittable because of that. I've since restored my registry but that probably contributed somewhat to my stopping play.
So anyway I currently have DL v1.5, DA v1.80g and TA v1.96 and I have no intention of upgrading them because to do so would require me to install Impulse.
However when I started playing around with these versions of DL and DA I was actually shocked to discover what you could do while supposedly "bankrupt". I mean clearly this allows for a wide range of score enhancing things that can be done however it really changed up the game from what I was used to. In reality I'm still trying to figure out the best way to utilize these new "features".
From what I hear 1.8 is the best. From experience 1.5 > 1.53 is not different, more stable for me but with XP probably no difference. TA is a different story.
I thought I once read on the wiki DL versions prior to 1.5 had a higher tax constant. That is the reason I thought you didn't upgrade. I could be mistaken. My DL 1M was done without an econ boom.
Of course you do eventually need to get out of debt at some point to continue research and do any real production but there's actually a lot more you can accomplish if you're allowed to buy more stuff even while you're supposedly bankrupt.
I'm not say it's wrong or even that the old way is necessarily better, just that it is substantially different and you can base your entire strategy on this difference. It just takes getting used to. I must have started a dozen different games since my last MV submission which was in Nov 08 but it's been tough with the decline of the game both to get information as well as to find the motivation to play.
hello im also pretty new to the game and have a problem.
i try to find a starbase module which increase the approval. but not with morale resource starbases (the resource crystals which are sometime on the map.)
are there any which work like influence starbases? but instead of pushing the influence they increase the approval of a planet?
i found this thread https://forums.galciv2.com/105418
in this thread they say there is a Diplomatic Outpost and Relations Center which i have to build and after that a Galactic mall. but i just cant find the module, starbase or technologie to build it.heres the text:
"I understand. Some starbase modules have prerequisites, generally only within one line of modules, and based on what order the techs are researched. So, in order to build the Galactic Mall you need to first build the Diplomatic Outpost and the Relations Center, since you have to research thier required techs before you can research Advanced Trade. Unfortunatlly, Influencer starbases don't improve morale only influence so it's better to build them near other civs planets."
i play twilight of the arnor. perhaps its disabled in the addon? but i also cant find it in dread lords...
would be great if someone could help me cause i dont know what i can do anymore and i need more approval for citizens
There are no SB modules that increase your approval, aside from mining starbases on morale resources, which is depreciated to derive approval.
The galactic mall is one of several things that never made it into the game; at last check, it still existed in the relevant xml file, but was commented out.
I've tried a few times to make SB modules of stats that don't have modules for them, but I can't remember any ever working, so I'm fairly positive it's not actually possible.
ahh allright! and i searched like 2 hours like an idiot in the game
thx for help!
