Yay, just managed to finish the game for the first time! No crashes at all, took me a bit less than an hour and about 200 turns. In the end I had seven cities and an army of about ten units. I recruited some basic soldiers, and got a couple of wolves and a knight from quests Sorry if I'm posting this on the wrong forum (feel free to move this!), but these aren't so much urgent bug reports rather than some casual observations.
Here's a few observations:
1. Moving armies around cities is a pain. When there was an enemy unit next to the city and I tried to move my units out of the city, they wouldn't go into the same stack, but had to be put into different tiles and then combined again outside the city.
2. There were two computer players in the game I think, but one of them disapperared somewhere? Maybe the other one destroyed him, I don't know. I just killed Procipinee and won.
3. While attacking Procipinee's last city, she had a big army there while being outside of the city herself. Somehow I captured the city without fighting the army, and could kill her when she was alone. The army just stood there on top of the city (not inside it!) without moving.
4. Trolls are mean!
5. I turned my autosave off for this game. I don't know if that had anything to do with the fact that the game didn't crash once when ending turn, but it was really weird. Before this the game had been crashing for me at least once every 50-100 turns, usually earlier, and the autosave would become corrupt and would not load anymore (I reported a couple of these). Anyway, if it keeps crashing at the end of a turn for you, might want to try this.
6. Quests were actually quite fun for such an early stage (sorry, I know the game isn't supposed to be fun ) I like quests where you can get some special units as reward, like those wolves!
7.What else... Oh yeah, at some point the party recruitment option stopped working. Using it would just recruit one unit. It worked once and gave me a party of four soldiers, but after that it went wrong.
All in all it worked well for me, this time at least. When I have time I'll try it again, still with the autosave off. I'm still already gonna say good work guys!
Heavily agree. I always grind my teeth when I have to move units nearby or (heaven forbid) through a city.
There is no AI implemented yet. (There are hook ups which will be used later by the AIs, but what you see is mostly unconcious reflexes. )
Yes. And I personally love that.
Yeah, quests are quite nice and I'll see tons of fun with them once they work for me.
I've been trying to finish a game, but I haven't been that lucky. I always see something I want to click on and crash the game. I also can't remember to save my game ever.
Yeah, I think I was a bit lucky there, usually I've had plenty of crashes too. But at least it's possible!
Autosave is working now, turn it on in the options.
double post
1. Agree.
3. I had 5 comp players so for me it happen twice. i had to go in and out of the city in order to finish them off (on the bright side for me and not so for game point of view, it was tones of exp as i had to kill 8 soldiers and it attacked and killed 1 each time)
5. my auto save was off also and game was won on Turn 148 w/o crashing even once. usually game crashes at least once by turn 100.
6. Agree
Point to notice: Right now heroes are very overpowered in small maps.I have started the game with heavily combat oriented hero and through the game i never recruited any unit or used any other unit (except the wolves which i got late game, i think turn 125) and still managed to kill 4 comp using my hero (with the last one I had the wolves but didn't really needed them). I only lost a combat once during multiple simultaneous attacks from the comp when I invaded his lands.
The SOV is suppost to be incredibly strong it is a Sovereign afterall
I'm not saying unbalanced but still the SOV shouldn't lose to a wolf or a spider he is a magical powerful being afterall.
LOL.
I agree, but, it isn't suppose to clear a map in 50 turns w/o even trying hard(which I did right after with). I didn't even bother with my town and that kind of negates the point of the game.
I haven't tried that combat-oriented sovereign yet, interesting. I always just give mine all kinds of neat sounding skills, or magic books that turn out to be useless, and then lose against a single spider
seven cities. 1 hour of game. 200 turns.
and an army of ten units ?!
I hope it is a beta feature because ten men conquering an empire is kinda weird.
The numbers need a lot of tweaking right now, 10 man armies aren't the goal.
Well I mostly just wanted to see what kind of buildings I could build, and the AI didn't really do anything aggressive so I didn't need more units I'm sure it's possible to rush and win in something like 30-50 turns. But the soldiers did seem a bit expensive, especially in terms of material. I'm sure it'll get tweaked a million times during the beta
I've definitely noticed the cities+moving units problems. There aren't just problems with moving your own units around/through cities, which is painful enough, but also attacking and defending cities - it seems like half the time I manage to take cities while some/all of enemy units in the city don't participate. I wind up controlling a city with a stack of enemy units sitting on top of it right alongside my own units, to engage them I have to move my army out of the city, then right click the enemy units (not the city) to engage them. Very strange and buggy, cities are just a pain to have units anywhere nearby at the moment.
Also: Trolls are great! Without them the game would be no challenge at all, I love 'em.
