Why do I need to hit the End Turn button 2x to get a ship to move, but if I hit it once I can then move the ship manually?
Seems like I am missing a turn.
I set a scout to fly across the map, but once it uses up it's moves I have to hit End Turn 2x. But instead i can hit it once, then select the ship and move it etc etc.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
Ships can only automove when you hit end turn if they have moves remaining. After the turn processing is done, their move points are restored and you're able to move them manually or automatically by ending the turn again.
Hm, still confused.
I set a ship to move 10 spaces, let's say it can only move 3. So it moves 3, I hit End Turn. It gets it's 3 moves regained, but does not move. I have to hit End Turn again, only then will it move 3 more. So I had to hit End Turn 2 times to get it to move once.
On the other hand, If I select the ship after the first End Turn, I can move it 3 spaces. Only to hit End Turn again to regain 3 more moves.
I can keep doing this, hitting End Turn and manually selecting the ship to have it move after only using End Turn once. The other way I have to hit End Turn, it regains its move points, hit End Turn again to have it move? See what I am saying here?
The turn isn't over until the end turn button reappears after you click it, but that usually happens so fast that it appears as though the moves are taking place at the start of the next turn instead of the end of the last turn.
Remember, it's not a "start moving ships" button, but an "end turn" button. The end of the turn *includes* moving all ships that have moves remaining.
Suppose you have Scout1, and you've told it to go over there somewhere on autopilot. The first turn when you do the autopilot command, it will use its three moves. Then when you hit "end turn" it has no more moves (and assume you have no other ships for the sake of simplicity) and it just sits there. But if you click on it *after* hitting end turn, you'll see that it's got three moves remaining. You can over-ride the autopilot and move the ship either manually (say, arrow keys) or reprogram the autopilot by sending it somewhere else. Suppose you do neither of those things; the ship carries its three moves into the "end turn" processing, where Scout1 (and any other autopilot ships with turns remaining) is moved according to your instructions.
You don't see Scout1 move after the first time you hit end turn because the first time you hit 'end', the autopilot had already moved the ship when you set it, and there were no moves remaining in turn1. The second time you hit 'end', you're telling it to use any remaining turn2 moves.
Note that one of the configuration options will enable "show autopilot" or something like that. In that case, you will see Scout1 take its Turn2 moves before control is returned to you at the beginning of Turn3.
Ahh, that makes sense. Can't believe I didn't realize that! Thanks SelvGovern.
