Is it just me, or does it seem like these expansions that were supposed to create more in depth game play seem to not be working right. It seems that there will never be a resolution to every ones problem with the game running at 10-15 fps 4-8 hours into a game. that was bad fore sight on there part. didn't design the game to be upgradeable to multi thread support. so only one core out of how ever many you have are taking the primary work load. So this game will become fully playable by the time it's a classic when individual cores reach upwards of 10 or 12 Ghz for the public. But since the last major update and the release of diplomacy, it seems I can't have any fun for those first few hours either. The AI is now rediculous! I am no stranger to this game. How is it on Easy That 3 AI all on defense are able to assemble a fleet faster than me??? it seems I'm cornered and over run by the time my 6th capital ship is built. I even tweaked my starting resources to push how fast I can build out the gate. Still, the AI is 2 steps ahead. Play as the TEC, and the Vasari on easy AI can out build you ship for ship. This doesn't seem to be more in depth game play. More like added frustration to the other big problems already with this game that have no resolution in sight. Sins HAD potential. And hopefully some designer far, far away is playing this expensive pile and says to himself that he can do better. And one day we'll have a game influinced in its mechanics by this one that actually works and is amazing and worth the money....
The patch helped tremendously with the desyncs in game. I would also recommend trying the Optimization mod that should be updated tomorrow--it helps a lot with speed.
The pirates are hard (for me to balance). I love harder pirates but they lag the game terribly in great numbers and are so powerful that their raids can unbalance map design strategies. For example, if you made a map for balance between "X" number of players, each pirate base is like an additional player.
The AI is much better in Entrenchment and Best in Dipolmacy. The diplomatic options are layered and subtle and require a little study and thought to get the benefit of of--I call them a plus. I don't prefer to play with diplomatic victory conditions on but the diplomacy side is a ggreat addition allowing you to team with Ais and making you choose from another layer of development when deciding your strategies.
The pirate raid strength plays well as part of the diplomatic game but the raids I think should be structured to the cash offered for them. The low experience point value of pirate ships accomodates this quite naturally.
Finally, if they could also somehow determine each pirate base's growth on some sort of plundered income standard it would be better than automatically growing fleets and strength. Maybe pirate bases/fleets could be changed to expand tech and fleets by converting the experience and resource value of destroyed ships and structures or even plundered worlds into the income they need to expand--rather than just having it automatically done.
I think Diplomacy was a plus and well worth it.
Wow and thats not what i started this thread for. the Ai jump 200 IQ points when they released diplomacy. and your diplomatic options they added don't work right. ai doesnt accept missions. at all. so its worthless in single player. And never said any thing about pirates. Yes they are harder. they actually needed an update. but the absolutely unfair ai that can build a fleet and bring doom on you by the time your colonizing your 4 th world......that's what this is mainly about. Oh and i shouldnt have to download a stupid MOD for the game ive blown over $60 on already. Keep it relevant to the thread please. dont need you spouting your little strategy's for winning and crap on here.
Ignoring the juvenile whining...the pirates are a factor of the AI and diplomatic options now--thats why they were mentioned. They are integral to playing--like it or not. You mentioned fps and I suggested some fixes and you asked if it added depth which I gave my take on but I take it what you are really saying is you came on here just to gripe and moan.
I'd suggest hte "Grow Up" mod or perhaps the "We don't really care thread" if that's all you are after. To play the game you need to be at least as smart as the AI. Can't help you with that.

I'm sorry he isn't enjoying it. I understand his frustration. The issue he has with the game is due to PEBKAC. I don't really know if there is a fix or work-around by Stardock for that yet.

It's a game. It has no other purpose except to waste time in an enjoyable manner. I, along with most other people who like RTS games, enjoy experimenting with different strategies and approaches. If you think that means having "no life", then I have to wonder why you purchased a game like this in the first place.
Helpful tip of the day: spamming the report function over personal disputes and sending harrassing private messages threatening to use bots (an even bigger no-no) to make puppet accounts to spam it even more is a cheap ticket to "elsewhere than here".
If you have a complaint about the game, be civil about it. There's no excuse to take it into harrassing other users and spamming upwards of a dozen moderators and employees.
