I was play the game and something felt like it was missing then I relize something.
Why are there no Destroyer type vessels.
I mean in war and capital ships take a while to roll out of the ship yards as well as crusiers and when we are being over run and need more heavy ships but don't have anything ready except to rush out scout and light frigates to the line.
I was thinking that a heavly aromerd light vessel with the purpose of going into heavy combat not hit and run would be very effect.
Slap two beam cannons to them and several of them could make a capital ship a run for its money.
But mostly front line heavy ship something in between the Light Frigate and Heavy Crusier that could be a mini Battleship or something or large caanons stap to her to make a diffrence or something would be nice to see.
lots of people have been asking for this
alas, the Devs are not interested...
Here's hoping for more ship diversity in Sins 2...
I'd like to see "torpedo patrol boats" as well--cheap ships that are as fast as scouts and excel at downing them (and perhaps trade/refinery ships) but have little armor, shields, hit points or other capabilities except maybe some small anti-air fire.
Would be nice to sstop autoscouts from passing a system with a small, cheap garrison of PBs.
Destroyers ould be great. Frigates have essentially replaced them in modern navies now. What would you define them as for Sins?
Ok another question mobile shipyard and the abilty to travel off the lanes.
Or be on the run like the Galactica.
I was playing loss all my planets and my fleet was being chase from one galaxy to another it was like Battlestar Galactica except there a fleet instead of one ship.
A patrol boat could have the speed of a Scout, rang of an LRM and do enough damage to kill a scout with one of two hits--but have the damage modified up for scouts while modifed waaay down for all other ships classes (except for Refinery and Trade ships...which is what Patrol Boats are for in real life).
I made a map where you start as a Vasari with only dead asteroids but have a fleet with cap ships and have to try to beat the enemy. I can post it in the maps for you if you want. It reminded me of BSG and it was fun. In it, you take down enemy trade ships to fund your fleet.
Do you really want to risk mucking up the balance of the game with a new, overpowered unit?
Its not over power it logic.
Well Captain. that is the poant in challanges.
Ok then let me rephrase it,
Where will this fit into the counters already found within the game right now? What I think your describing is the HC. Heck it could be the LRF.
Not sure if it is needed, but I think a RW example is the PT boats of WW2. Light, small boats that mounted 2 torpedo's but a .50 cal could take them out.
In game terms, it would have some weapons that could do some damage, with a long recharge time, but very little armor.
Maybe less armor than the scout.
Dave Chase
It would be also nice to upgraded or Carriers to handle more fighters than a single squadron.
I actually was looking at making a mod with a "PT Boat" and I think the simplest way is to add a new fighter class which I will call the "Interceptor".
If I can edit the parameters (some I know I can others I am not sure yet) it will do large damage versus scouts, refinery and trade ships and pathetically light damage versus everything else.
It can be used in a hangar at a system to interdict trade ships (and accumulate wealth as a result) and to blockade scouts on autopilot (so they can't scan core worlds for a Novalith fix later in the game or see what has changed in your system). It also would work well as a raider force with carriers on undefended enemy shipping. Of course, if they have escorts, the interceptor will be the least desirable asset to defend or attack with as it will have almost no shield or armor and less effective weapons compared to other fighting craft.
It basically fulfills the role of interdiction. Probably a good comparison of it is the WWII Mosquito bomber. Made out of wood and for speed. They were used to intercept V1 bombs, for reconniasance and blowing up trains and coastal shipping.
Have you updated recently? All carries get a min of 2 squads. Advent get 3.
