Sins MP is not dying because of MDs or desyncs those problems have been here since day one. ico is dying because 90% of the games you play are decided right from the start because of team stacks. its not fun playing if you know from the start that you will lose.
Smurfing isnt the problem its the people who smurf so they can play with their clans even if the teams aer stacked then trash talk the other team when they win. im tired of this happenning. which is why i am gonna quit sins, it has now just become a huge waste of my time and i gain no enjoyment from playing a game that is predecided.i dont think i am alone i have seen many other people complain about this attitude but im sick and tired of fighting. Now come DT and trash talk me in this post because we all know its what you are good at.
have fun everyone

Some good points in the above reply.
It's clear that by design Sins acomodates long, slow strategy boardgame playing styles as well as fast arcade/first shooter type engagements. Most players will prefer one over the other in these cases--so we won't all be on the same page as to how everything should be. The lack of a campaign and deep back story that is played out means its entirely up to an individual player's imagination to create an immersive environment..and that's harder for some than others. So some come on and dispense with immersion and long strategic campaign style games and just treat it as a game of chess with the goal simply being killing the other guy as fast as possible. That loses the ones who want to enjoy the game and operating in the environment it creates. So essentially, a lot of peiople play and the "story" is really a minor thing to them.
I think the absolute best thing Sins could do (and I believe it would really increase its longevity) is to develop campaign scenarios and along with that, a custom campaign design feature. Would be a good expansion. If they could then develop the ability for players to host a virtual server from their own pc that could be listed on a master listserver (aka as in Freelancer, BZFlag and many other games), it might create enough diversity to start growing the game longer term rather than it just "dying".
Servers with many moddable aspects could develop into little communities that were player controlled and people could cruise them all until they found the group they fit with. Ironclad can always be good for simply finding a match but these player maintained and run "microservers" could be the glue that keeps the game going for years. The more function and ease of moddability the devs add, the more potential it develops to be a real keeper for a long time...rather than just a succesful title for only a season.
It also might end a lot of the heavy drama by disappointed players who don't feel they are getting what they want and give them the chance to create their own "Sins Universe" with their own ideas and promotion and following. I think it would help us all enjoy the game more and it would give mods of the game a real chance to catch on as concepts of their own.
Hamachi is one of those virtual servers and i believe SINS games already running on it
Great point--didn't think of that at all. Genius! I always hate when a game server site pulls the plug and you are left with no options.
In a 4s or 5s, there are acknowledged roles yes, but by virture of the random map placement, this varies considerably to the point that you can't possibly assume any predetermined role for each until positions have been scouted with an eye to race dependant considerations. The ensuing team effort develops from there. There are far too many variables to just say, "...ok, you spam lrms, you spam carriers, and you sb!"
As Nightraider so eloquently put it,
You might as well just unistall.
man i cant ever find a macth online and i dont know how to do LAN
I do believe diplomacy still has cca 50 players on evening times (after 7-8 pm GMT) .
According to other threads vanila and entrenchment versions have mostly private comp stomp games.
What version of the game are you playing? The action is on the Diplomacy expansion which is on its own server (separate from the Original Sins/Entrenchment server). The best times to play seem to be between 2 pm - 10 pm U.S. Eastern Time. There are normally several 4v4 and 5v5 games every day.
Dirty you should get paid for this.
lol even when he is studying for the bar exam he is still the ambassador to sins online on the forums.
I am new to the community but not to the game. i have a buddy that comes over to play Sins on my home network i have two !7s with GTX480s win7 proffessionla on 64 GB SSD drives where Win 7 is installed. We have been playing sins of and on for about a year now just the two of us, and a few beers while we play. All of our games are coop play and we spread the difficulty around for the other 8 Ai players.
On point what we have noticed is that when we use a random large multi star map that the game IS MORE about your start location than about your skill as a player. If you get a good start spot, with minimal points of approach you can really kick ass BUT if you get stuck next to a wormhole or in the middle with poor planets to colonize your going to be in big trouble quick.
A skilled player with a poor start versus a skilled player with a better start how do you think that is going to work out? I appreciate random but there needs to be balance. In a MP game the start spots have to be identical because this game is especially difficult if one is in a poor start spot. Add to that the trash talk and the unruley people who yell alot if your not johnny on the spot reading thier minds, like i am supposed to know what you are doing with out you even telling me, a complete stranger who did not even know you existed until you joined my game, what you expect of me, and some how i am the noob?
More and more it is not the technical asopects of the game that are killing the community it is the assholes who kill the community. You can say all you want about how noobs should not even be allowed in MP but then that leaves only assholes left, which for the most part i will pass on, with all sincerity THANKS but no thanks.

You, sir, win the thread and deserve a jar full of delicious cookies.
Sadly, custom maps where everyone gets an equal starting position won't auto-download for this game, so sometimes people do get screwed. On the other hand, dealing with the starting situation you are dealt is part of the game and skilled players will deal with it better than lesser-skilled players.
Online multiplayer in any game is not for everyone. It's not for, how shall I put it, girly-men with thin skins who overreact to every little comment someone makes. I suppose it isn't for sensitive people with low self-esteem. It's for laid-back cool people who can roll with the punches. There are some jerks online and some people who take the game way too seriously, but having to suffer them is a small price to pay in order to enjoy a higher-quality game. You have to be able to laugh at other people's behavior; it's all part of the fun.
Did I read I while back that Rebellion will only allow 1 account per key? If that's the case I will come to ICO. I want to know with whom I am playing and if they are assholes I will not play them again and no, just because you kick my ass it does not make you an asshole. Once you have 1 account only and no smurffing you will see peoples behavior greatly improve and only n00bs will fall into the team-stacked trap.
EDIT: I would also like to see an option to turn off quick keys to get rid of all the boobs that use macros to play. I also would like to see the save game not show the stats which usually makes it that my opponents just want to start a new game. Quit shows stats while save hides them.
From what I have ascertained, it will show stats from across all the names of the account. It will not necessarily be limited to 1 name per account. While not doing away with smurfing altogether, you would be able to tell how experienced someone is. People could still get away with hiding who they are but it would be possible to figure out by keeping track of stats who is who if you played regularly enough. This is just my speculation however not knowing exactly how they would implement it.
