I've been playing Demigod a lot in the past two weeks, tallying 90 some games over 16 days. The two links above are to my two most recent replays. I've been reading a lot of strategies and builds, and was wondering if anyone has critique on my playstyle/build/item-order, or other stuff like that. Anything to get better =]
My Erebus build's usually
Level 1 - Bite 1
Level 2 - Improved Conversion Aura 1
Level 3 - Coven 1
Level 4 - Save
Level 5 - Improved Conversion Aura 2/Coven 2 + Bat Swarm
Level 6 - Blood 1
Level 7 - Improved Conversion Aura 2/Coven 2
Level 8 - Improved 3
Level 9 - Bite 2
Level 10 - Bite 3
Level 11 - Bat Swarm 2
Level 12 - Coven 3
Level 13 - Bat Swarm 2
Level 14 - Blood 2
Level 15 - Army of Night
Level 16 - Vampiric Aura
Level 17 - Bite 4
etc. I usually interchange blood/bite/coven/conversion depending on how the game's going. If I have tons of nightwalkers all the time, bite/blood. Not enough nightwalkers, conversion. Low health, blood.

Watched 1 of your replays. I don't like your starting choice. I always go monks immediately with erb. You get a kill at 1:40, but its entirely due to a bonehead move on sedna's part. About 2-3 minutes in, its clear that you are very cautious with erb. Overly cautious, imo, but you are hugging a tower and getting creeps, so no real issue there... at 3:30, u are using your minions to harass, but its not doing anything for you at all. Just wasting your rollies.
Hmm... at level 6, you build looks like a so/so minion build. 7 min's in ... you head back to base for the first time. You get bishops, siege archers and a lock. Your 1 item is banded armor. Your team also just hit level 3 when you went back and you did not buy currency for the team.
The oak and sedna stick near you, but don't really make any effort to kill you or push you out. 9 minutes in, its clear that the problem is the level of competition. You shouldn't be able to hold a lane against 2 dgs solo with banded as your only item. To me, that means they are doing something very wrong.
Anyway, tips from me - you are fairly cautious. This is good, but its seemed like cautious to the point of being afk by a tower at one point. You haven't died the entire time I've been watching (through 9min 50 sec), but I'd hope you wouldn't as erb. You place alot of focus on minions, but you aren't maximizing the minion build. I watched a little more...I don't know... it was kinda meh. Competent enough, but i also didn't see any excellent team play on your part. You bought currency 1 at 11min 32 seconds. So you did pick it up, but you could have bought that 4 minutes ago for your team when you bought bishops/archers. As you aren't engaging in direct combat all that much, poisoned blood this early was a bit of a waste. I noticed you have night walkers and that you aren't sending them to attack the raise dead wards oak is setting.
Your entire playstyle seems to be that of a 1v1 player. I haven't seen you do much with your team at all... and you are the best equiped to gank on your team. At the 15 min mark, I start thinking about the level of competition again. The oak you are fighting with... he comes to engage u at the flag. He does surge of faith 1, then casts a shield on himself and runs back to his tower. Surely this will work...
And now at 17min, you buy gold 2... I get gold 2 0% of of the time in my games if I'm playing in a premade. I don't think really get the return for it (unless the game lasts quite some more time... I don't remember the stat). Anyway, you have finally bought items for youself at the 17 min mark. Now you have banded and just bought scaled helm and scalemail (those the the items I pick up on my first trip back to base).
I can't believe both teams have all of their towers at the 22min mark... holy crap. (high towers, btw). Ok... 22min 50sec - can't watch anymore. Anyway, in this specific game, an assassin erb would have torn things up. Stun can be a big deal - all the more so when you are playing high towers. I'd have liked to see you paying more attention and looking for opportunities to port in and get a kill.... but as none of you wanted to risk running past the towers, that makes it a bit more difficult to kill without stun.
After playing more, I've settled on a minion build style. I'll try and focus more on teamplay, and getting currency directly at wr3. I've moved to starting with monks, but I haven't been able to use mass charm effectively. Thanks a lot for taking the time pacov, I'll try to work on your points.
Always start with monks level 1 when you play ANY general.
Even if you're not sure how to handle it yet, try to have one point in Mass Charm just to interrupt TP or Potion. Mass Charm is really useful for team move, stunning ennemy to prevent him from TPing or fleeing when you're ganking with a friendly DG. It may also save your team mates when they're low in life and purchased.
But, for example, Mass Charming (lvl 1) an ennemy DG when you're alone is totally useless. Why? Because 1 sec cast stun ennemy DG 1 sec = no tempo benefit and huge amount of MP wasted.
Agreed. 95% of the time this is the case with the exception of a few interrupts (large health, tps, etc). You won't see many good players pulling that crap next to an erb 1v1 though.
I really agree with this too. Get 1 level of mass charm in most builds. When to buy it is your call, though. For instance, depending on the team I'm against, I will pick up level 1 somewhere between level 3-7. Its all very situational for my build.
One guy that really plays a solid minion erb build is peterdumptruck. He seems to use his minions quite effectively. I'm not sure if there are any replays out there with his build or if he's ever bothered to post his build. He's a pretty tough opponent when he has good teammates and I'd go so far as to recommend his minion erb as the style to emulate if you are set on minion erb.
I've ended up basing a minion build off of a spirit oak build (surprisingly enough) that completely owned myself and mandatorycloud, who I usually play with. Going over the replay was quite educational.
My build is usually:
Level 1: Save
Level 2: Coven 1 + Improved Conversion Aura 1
Level 3: Stats 1
Level 4: Save
Level 5: Coven 2 + Improved Conversion Aura 2
Level 6: Swarm 1
Level 7: Save
Level 8: Coven 3 + Improved Conversion Aura 3
Level 9: Depends on how the game's going, usually stats.
Starting Favor: Ring of Divine Might/Horn of Battle
Starting Item: Monks
On my first trip back to base I get Siege Demolishers, + Gladiator Gloves + Tele Scroll, possibly the cheapest minotaurs if I can afford it.
Throughout the game, I focus on:
-Hauberk of Life
-Forest Band
-Theurgist's Cap
-Gloves of Fell-Dakur
-(Depending on the game) Boots of speed/Wand of Speed
Play style: I hug the towers religiously. My minions do all of the work, always, period. I hang close enough to pick up Night Walkers, but I rarely engage. This sometiems makes my teammates rage, because I'm just standing there, with 2000 health and 0 armor, and no way to heal or protect myself. But the minions are incredibly, incredibly powerful. Siege Demolishers are key, and coupled with monks chilling near them, take down towers. If the enemy kills them, I simply respawn them, send them again. This keeps them preoccupied, and I'll send in my walkers periodically to drive them off.
It seems to fit my play style because I tend to be overly cautious. Minions are incredibly expendable, and I have fairly decent micro.
A tactic that would work, I just have to test it is to simply...get mass charm, even instead of bat swarm. A frozen enemy allows crazy minion dps.
Thoughts?
Mmmh your build seems totally focused on minions. I never played such a build so I don't really have advices to give. If it works fine and you get majority of victory, keep it.
Nevertheless, if you feel you can't handle good players (like this oak) I would suggest you don't focus that much on minions. They're great, sure, but your DG is really really squishy. Getting 3 lvl of Coven and ICA is enough to have efficient minions. But having a strong Erebus in addition would be better I think. Get Blood of the Fallen as favor, get bite whenever you can (so powerful...), buy armor/HP and Batswarm is really really a must-go.
For example, by level 12, I would suggest:
4 points in Bite, 3 points in Coven, 3 points in ICA, 2 in Batswarm.
batswarm I is mandatory to any build for erebus. it really saves your ass in nasty situations. I only get batswarm II if Im playin pure assassin style, otherwise I stick with level I batswarm. About mass charm, I found that this particular skill is for assassin LE ONLY. it consumes a lot of mana which u don't have if u play a minion build. But still, 1 point in mass charm is crucial, its damn good against pots/locks. I would also suggest taking mist if you can buy vlemish + pleanor in addition to your minion items (haurberk, gloves of fell-darkur, theurgist's cap [whatever]), it keeps them alive when there is a big crowd, makes u invulnerable, and AoE damage enemies. Just my thoughts
Ok so here's how I'm going to do this
2 builds: yours (Improved) = Hybrid w/mist stun and Mine(hybrid w/bite, batswarm)
First, I didn't watch the replays cause it seems as though you've changed playstyle since then.
First, Imo stats = bad, because the offer less versatility and if the game reaches giants your entire build becomes useless, also it doesn't help much when you are against a AOE dg
Which brings me to my second point HoB always and forever for minion builds the Hp regen is good for both you and your minions and will help you counteract AOE and take down towers faster while all RoDM does is allow you to hurt other DG's and early game creep waves. Also, b/c of recent changes minions are not fast enough to hurt a fleeing dg making RoDM even more useless because they will simply cap the flag and sit at their tower, until you expose yourself.
Ok build time.
Level 3: Mist
Level 4: Stun
Level 5: Coven 2
You should go shopping about now and get the following imo
banded, scaled helm, (check cur or fs 1) then it depends you want vlemish to help with misting and stun, or you could get hauberk but if you get it then you cannot hug the towers b/c no point in health without fighting. If you have money left over plenor or siege archers
Level 7: ICA 2
Level 8: Coven 3
More shopping focus on mana
Level 9: ICA 3
Level 10-20: Max mist and stun
How to play it:
it depends if you hug towers a little less misting on the flag is a good idea while using minions w/ HOB to harass the towers
if you insist on religious tower hugging skip mist and grab more stun points then lure your opponent into tower range and stun while attacking w/ minions
IMO this is a bad build... you can't hold the flags or push a lane easily because of tower hugging and any decent bite build WILL push you out of the lane (I'm biased shhhh)
MY build: (ofc the best )
Favor: HoB
Items: Monks
Skillz
1 Bite
2 Coven
3 ICA
4 Bite
5 Coven
6 Swarm
7 Bite
8 Coven
9 ICA 2
10 Bite
11 ICA 3
12 Swarm 2
13 Poisoned Blood
14 Poisoned Blood
15 Depends, if giants are out lifesteal aura, if night the army of the night thingy
16 what you didn't get earlier
17-20 stun/mist/stats all depends on map and giants
Stay out as long as possible for a level and gold adv focus on holding the lane and flag and when the other dg shops pop HoB and work on the tower
Shopping: lvl5
Banded and Scaled Helm
Cur if you can
Fs1 next
And if you still have gold Vlemish
Maybe high priest if you go back to the crystal
Lvl 7-10 Shopping:
Unbreakables, Plenor, Nimoth (the magic $$ 1500)Then Hauberk
Bishops
After that narmoths ring
You should be buying cit after lvl 10 unless you can get godplate…
Playstyle:The ONLY person who can push you out of a lane past lvl 5 is a BotS beast and a good one at that
Bite is very important don’t waste it only usse it when you get the maximum benefit of health, armor reduction, and slow Which means you need a decent number of pollies and you should have lost X health (depends on level of bite) also when facing another erebus DON’T bite first… think about it…
Once you get mana helms you should spam bite BUT always make sure you have enough mana for swarm it will save your life
You have epic gank and escape abilities, but if oak or UB comes into your lane make sure that you wear them down with your minions first.
During the first 5 levels or so minions will be your most important weapon but don’t be afraid to engage esp against towers.
Hmm that’s all I can think of just post any questions about my build cause I don’t have much experience with the mist/stun build

I've been working on my Erebus game, and have ditched the minion build. It's incredibly effective early-mid game, but mainly only for pushing towers. I can take out all of the towers. However, in late game against cat/giant creep waves and skilled opponents, it's entirely worthless. It can't do anything. So I go for a mainly assassin-style build, but also get bishops and siege demolishers.
I've been trying to improve my map awareness.
The one time I died in the replay was because I accidentally minimized Demigod (I play in a window) and when I came back found my warp stunned and me defenseless.
