For gamers willing to brave the beta process, Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy beta 1 is now available to those who have pre-ordered it. Those who went through the Entrenchment beta can attest that these betas are the real thing and not merely an exercise in marketing.
Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy builds on what was added in Entrenchment, the first micro-expansion pack to the award-winning PC strategy game.
In Diplomacy, players can give AI players missions, build envoy ships to help set up embassies or destabilize enemy governments and research through the new diplomacy tech tree.
Later this week we expect to go through our own "nit-pick" demo of beta 1 to show where we're at and what we think needs to be done prior to the final release this Winter.
You can still pre-order the beta directly from the website or from Impulse.
installed it a few hours ago and gave it a quick spin.
My question is, now every faction is using a envoy whats stopping them using it as a invulnable scout ? I saw there was a diplomacy skill to counter espionage (i think) does that mean I just have to train it to kill the envoys.
Can envoys view distance be limited to stop them being used as scouts?
edit: -- do you see the envoys going in the direction of scouts (ie active exploration mode) or more automated like trade/refinary ships etc.
I just think having the player control these ships they will get exploited for their scouting abilities. Not really adding anything to the gameplay other then if there in other faction capitals.
# p.s. please take my comments as a minor observation Ive only played it for a hour. gonna do more
I doubt it, they currently cost 24 supply, and dont move very fast. Im sure one could exploit them as a temporary scout, but the scout frigs are still cheap and fast. I don't think this will make a great replacement, especially since you can research to destroy them.
I have maybe been able to play it for a few minutes after work and I really like so far the relationship window it is really helpfull in understanding who to help and why they don't like me. I didn't know race was even a factory in wether or not I could have good diplomatic relation and what's stoping me. I look forward better explore some of the other features. And I can already see many of the improvements will be incredibly helpful in multi-player even though I know that what is outis just the skeleton so far it really going to change the game.
Thanks!
yup just hooked up with a buddy for about 50 mins so far, not got too far into it but I'm loving the Diplomacy Tech tree, I can't wait to get all of it.
Finally being able to issue missions to other races, trade research pacts look interesting and of course sabotage and sowing discord.
So far so great and no issues yet
I just noticed that they called version 0.85 the 'un-fun' one. That's a complete lie because I'm having a blast already.
Then just imagine what the "fun" version will be like!
I love the destablizing ablility of the Dipilomatic Envoy. I know that one of the Dev talked about if we liked this type of ablity they would expand it. I really hope they do because it makes the Diplomatic Envoy a must have and worth the numbers it cost in fleet logistics. My only probablem I've come with so far the exacution file from the program file. I have to Activate it from Impulse to have the full screen. By the way what friendly level does the computer have to be at in order to start taking my missions. Well, I think this has made a great game much greater already.
I think the "Unfun" comment was a lie, it's great fun so far, hehe.
I have installed the beta and am having freezing issues. The game will, for some reason I have not yet figured out, become unresponsive. This is disappointing as I always noted SoSE as being extremely stable.
I have two dump logs saved I would like to submit but am not sure where, or whom to send them to.
Woot, what a pleasant surprise to install impulse to
In practice the envoy is only effective in the beginning of the game since it has to locate the enemy homeworld to open communication. Once you have the espionage upgrade these ships are easily killed way before they find your homeworld.
The AI are not giving missions. The love nub cant' be rasied high enough by bribes. 50% -> 60%.
In a 6 player game only my neighbor started at 50%, at 60% I couldn't get a trade pact.
I had more diplomacy in SoSE and Entrenchment.
Now that I have 20 Novalith cannons firing, diplomacy seems dead
No body likes me, everybody hates me, I might as well eat worms.
What a beta... absolutely loving it!!!
Can't recommend this enough to people on the fence!
Why would you recommend playing this over Entrenchment or vanilla? As the poster before you said the beta of Diplomacy has no diplomacy. The only improvements so far are the pirates strength and I have spotted 1 or 2 nice moves from the AI.
The screens and some assets are there for the nice improved diplomacy but right now you can't even make friends with the AI that start neatral/hostile towards you, it's too early to judge.
hello, I installed the beta and I have a little trouble to master, but much the final version, please, I beg you, gave us the final version in early February, I am dying to see new vessels.ps: I am French, so my English a little disaster, sorrygood games
all I can do is get to 24% relations by giving the AI stuff, the missions doesn't reward you, and I haven't been asked to do a mission in return. I know this is beta, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something. I see that the AIs are making friends w/ one another, but how do I make friends w/ them?
edit: I am assigning them missions, but the relationship numbers fall faster then I can assign new missions.
Short answer is you aren't able to.
Currently the diplomacy is not really there as far as I can see so I'm not sure what we are supposed to be beta testing although perhaps that is one of the bugs that have come out of the beta!
That stinks, so until the next patch, it's a FFA unless you start the match w/ fixed teams.
