Some help please?
I have a valid impulse license and WB 7 shows avaiable in "My Software", yet every time I attempt the install, impluse downloads the file and then returns the following:
"Download file invalid; MD5s do not match server"
Get the same message if I try to download and archieve...
Appreciate Your assistance!
MD5 errors can be caused by security software interfering with the download or corrupt system memory. If you have some security software installed, try adding Impulse.exe as an exclusion within it. If this does not help, you may need to temporariy disable it and then try again.
I'm running Norton 2010 and have killed it's services and still receive the same message.
Additionally inpulse will allow me to update or install any other impulse apps without a problem.
Garabee, thanks for the help but still looking for a solution.
Regards
Can anyone suggest how I get help with this?
I've uninstalled all security stuff (Norton 2010 Security Suite)
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Impulse and all stardock apps I've been running. (no problem installing anything else)
I've removed all occurrences in the registry and local file locations referencing WB (all/any versions)
I've removed certificates and attempted to remove all and any references to stardock anywhere on the system.
I finally said screw it and once again purchased WB7 stand alone in spite of the fact that I already own it as part of my current Object Desktop Ultimate/Impulse valid subscription which doesn't expire until 9/2010.
I've registered within Impulse the new serial and email addy that I used to purchased to WB7. It acknowledges the purchase and again makes it available to install. Yet it still fails to install with the same MD5 error message...
This is the same problem I've with Stardock for 6 years, when their stuff works it's cool, yet getting it to work is always a pain in the ass.
Some day I'd like an explanation to why you are expected to go online, purchase a product, pay your money, and then can't get a simple "setup.exe" rather having to download and install another app (Impulse) just to install the fricking product you bought!
OK, I'll get off the rant... This is just so fricking frustrating.
Any help offered is very much appreciated...
Best Regards-
Have you tried Reset Data in Impulse?
I know you uninstalled it, but I am unsure if that will remove the data files or not.
PCDoc,
Hi. Can you please click on the blue question mark after a failed download and then send us your error log?
Also, this is not "just something to try" as it often is the root cause of download issues with MD5 checks. Can you run a memory check on your PC? Often MD5 issues are caused by bad memory. We recently in fact had this issue in house and it turned out to be a bad memory chip in the offending PC. Our support team runs into this frequently with non-ECC memory.
Thanks!
Zargon
The other thing might be a bad network cable. If you download some large file from elsewhere that has a posted known MD5 and generate a MD5 on your pc using MD5sum you could check that they match up.
Here it is. Thanks-

Yes-
I have replaced the cable, reset the router and cable modem, and downloaded various 700 - 800MB programs and video without issue.
It might be time to download a RAM testing tool and have it check your system memory for problems.
http://www.memtest86.com/download.html
Nothing wrong with Ram... The box will run memtest - prime95 - super_pi or any of the other load testing programs out there.
Thanks-
Something new that's unexplainable and makes no sense.
I once again removed all stardock product and internet security software and decided to start from scratch one more time.
Now when I download impulse I continued to get a message that the file is corrupt and would failed to run directly from the browser or from a save disc location. (Makes sense if it's really corrupt)
I then went to my neighbors house and downloaded the file installed fine, but I still could not load WB7 as it continued with the MD5 error. This would make me assume that I had a problem with a router or the box with downloads although I don't have any problem downloading anything else.
So to continue the test I uninstalled impulse again and attempted to download and install again. I once again continued to get the corrupt file messages, so this where the fun begins!
I downloaded and installed "Hide-My-IP" and started running with the fake IP.
This time I had no problem downloading impulse and the install ran fine. Within impulse I installed DesktopX4, Fences Pro, and IconPackager5 without a problem, but WB7 failed to install again with the same MD5 error.
Since that download and install ran fine I'm having a hard time believing that the problem is in this box, yet I have just as much of a problem believing that this can be related your download site (why would it care 'bout my IP? If I was blocked I wouldn't be able to download anything else from you). I'm just attempting to identify the problem. I'll include that fact that I am an IT Tech and have made my living as such for the last 15 years. This is in no way intended to impress or offer credentials, I'm just a banger like most of us and get discussed trouble-shooting crap like this.
Any and all comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated!
PS: Isn't there anyway that someone can send me a simple WB7 setup.exe that I can run until I/we identify the problem...
EDIT:
To add insult to injury:
I've put two laptops and three client machines on this network and all have the same problem. When you download and run impulse the same corrupt file message appears!
Installed and ran "Hide My IP" on each machine and the file downloaded and install without issue...
PS: For the hardware freaks, I'm posting this while Prime95 has the box using a 100% resources (all 8 cores) and has been running for the last 4 hours. So I'm not believing it's got anything to with hardware. Could consider a problem with the OS (Win 7) but that's a stretch...
Are you using some sort of security gateway on you network that would be checking http traffic? Reading this, the only thing that would come to mind is something like that. Also, I'm not familiar with Hide my IP (Tor user myself) but does it work over port 80, or some alternate port? The fact that this doesn't work for all machines, but those work on other networks makes me thing something on the gateway is affecting the download traffic.
Shirley-
Thanks for the reply as this has been a really weird issue to resolve, but it is fixed!
I tested "line quality" using DSLReports and had extremely high packet loss so I went to my provider and replaced the cable modem. END OF PROBLEM!
Thanks to all that replied and very best regards: Ken
Can you post the link to this test?
Sorry I didn't save it...
