Hello all
So of course the new overlay is fine, of course premade are bad, but here's the thing.
A friend and I bought this game when it was released. We always play together because it's 1/fun 2/the way the game was designed to 3/we're sure that not one of us will drop out when killed.
Since the new overlay has been released, my friend and I can't really play like we used to. People jump into the lobby, check out the stats and either complain or leave.
Been only able to play 3 games since oct. 21th...that's not even funny anymore.
I agree that being steamrolled isn't interesting, but my friend & I aren't that good. It's not because I get 89% wins out of 120 games that I'm the ubber lulzor that kills everything. We do get our asses handed to us when facing better players. And I don't mind loosing, because it usually mean I will learn something out of it. That's something most of the people leaving the lobby tends to forget.
And if I create a lobby and put "Premade" in the title, noone joins at all. I can understand that.
So for once, I will not thanks SD for this "improvement". People just freak out over the stats when there is no real reason to do so. I'd be more afraid of a guy with 350 games with a 60% ratio playing with PUGs.
Hopefully this will be solved when more people get Ready 2 Play, but for now, it's more a pain in the butt than anything else.
Not really ranting, but if stats could be removed, that would really be something nice.
OK, first off, in game stats are not an improvement but a nessesity. Seriously wat strategy game doesnt show any stats ingame?
I dont mean to jump on you, but you say your not that good, and yet you have an 89% win rate... And yet steamrolling isnt interesting...
So which is it? To get above 80% win rate, you either A: Cheat B: Are a godly player or C: Like to stomp lesser players.
I really dont see how people with 80-100% win rates can complain, you did it to yourself. People want a balanced game, with people who dont cheat, or bash lesser players. You some how managed to get your win rate that high, and it was one of the above 3 ways.
I dont mean to pick on you, or bash any of the other good players with high win %, but realistically if teams are relativly even, at most someone would have a win % of 60, 70 tops if they are really good.
If anything stats are long overdue, so that we can now see how imbalanced some games were from the get go.

Well no offense take, don't worry I see what you mean.
Of course the ingame overlay was a necessity, without it I was checking my allies stats on the pantheon website anyway.
But it is normal not being able to play the game anymore just because I'm good, or because, as you say, lesser players have a hard time playing against me ?
I'm just a bit sad. I will have to create a new account name just to be able to play again. Boo.
Or wait till Epoch 3
You do have a third option. Balance the teams. This doesnt mean there cant be a 90% win rate guy in the game at all. IT just means e cant have 2 allies with similar stats vs a team with 40%. See what Im saying. Basicaly oyull get stuck playign with people who have 30% win rates... Either you will bring them up or they will bring you down. win/win for all.
When you play a game and get better you expect to fight harder opponents with better partners as you rank up, not to have a bigger and bigger weight tied to you to keep you from playing as well.
You know what the worst part of the whole thing is? How idiotically hypocritical the people who demand balanced teams are. They're the ones who'll quit game after game until they're certain they can win, the ones who tell hosts to fuck off right before they storm out of a lobby. They're no better than premades who play together because they want to increase their chances of success, they're clearly not the ones who are least concered with victory.
There's no skill progression in this game. When you get good you're expected to fight with progressively worse teammates and the rare premade vs. premade match is always on the same map and always using the same tricks you use to mop the floor with random players.
The 'skilled' players of this game have mastered a meta game at best. They play less than half the DGs and know less than half hte maps.
The problems caused by a lack of automatching has reached a critical mass, there's very little point to playing this game any more if you want real fights. You also ignore that just becuase you're willing to play with lower ranked players doesn't mean you're going to magically get a game going.
It's bullshit, plain and simple. This game has the best multiplayer gameplay I've seen in years. It even surpasses left4dead (at release, before I got bored with those four campaigns), but fact is it's simply impractical to get a good game going, and then when you do get one it seems people have figured out how to bug out the game so it doesn't even 'count.'
I'd like an automatching option very much, especially if I can let's say use an automatching that allows me to select which friends to play with.
For example, creating a "lobby" with 2 others friends, and launching a game search, a bit like skirmish.
It was called "arranged teams" for warcraft3, and it rocked my socks so much I loved it.
Now THAT would be balanced.
I thought they said at one point that this wasn't going to happen.
Unfortunately, at this rate, I'm not sure how much more they are going to do.
That's the wrong analogy. Custom games in the current Demigod community are not like the Olympics (that would be something like Lagwar's tournament), rather they're like pick-up games at the gym. In a 3v3 pick-up basketball game, you don't put the tallest three guys on one team, you try to balance it out to get an even game.
You usually make good arguments, so I'm assuming you've been burned recently which is why you're over-generalizing here. I played a game hosted by Frogboy the other night where he put the three 50%ers on one team, and the two 70%ers and the noob on the second team, and I wouldn't consider him a hypocrite or a rager. As it turned out, it was the right move, because it led to a tight game that went to the wire, with multiple lead changes.
I think in most cases, the spirit of balancing teams is to get a good game, and it's unfair to characterize people who want balanced teams as idiot ragers. It's not ideal, especially because win %s can often be misleading, but it's better than how it was before where many people were simply stacking teams.
So go join one of the other 3 pre-made games languishing in the lobby? I play with my brother all the time and we still find regular games every night.
We don't play at night, only afternoon. So not a lot of players are online. Especially not the US ones.
