Hey i am new to sins and have a quick question regarding a battle i had today. Firstly despite what numerous people have said about TEC or Advent being better choices for fledgling sinners i chose vasari. Today however i was trying to build my skills my playing as advent against a random race AI opponent.(sorry for long intro)
My question is are there any strategies to overcome an early assailant rush by AI which destroyed my mothership besides relying on a pirate harass like i did(this coupled with culture eventually one the game for me but it took too long)
O and i play original sins but will be getting entrench soon. i jus want learn the basics first. even though i here they get thrown out the window in entrench.
First, TEC is referred too alot as the beginners choice..........that doesnt mean its the best choice for everyone. In the end play whatever side fits you best. Each have different strategies and tactics which fit better with different players.
Second, An assailant rush is quite easy to counter. LFs and scouts will annhilate an assailant rush.
Thnx i have to admit i never though of that cuz i always let scouts explore or in the case of vasari micro for extractors and intel thnx again
New question any ideas on how to counter a balanced late game advent fleet my ships literally disappear. i know there are some older posts on the topic but i want some suggestions relevant to the new patch.( o and i am no longer referring only to small maps)
Yeah, the fact massed scouts counter long range frigates surprises a lot of people (only when they are spammed though, if they bring a few LFs and carriers with them you're in trouble).
As for late game, good news is that advent isn't quite as powerful anymore. Bad news they are still very good. If they have a balanced fleet, your best bet is probably a balanced fleet of your own. Subverters are good for taking out their support ships, both Guardians and subjugators abilities can be interrupted by disabling them (tech required). Other than that, try to take out their capitial ships. A high level space egg (evacuator) is a must for nano disasembler. A Kortual and Desolator (especially at level 6) can do a lot of damage both to caps and his fleet in general. If you're attacking a planet with a lot of fortifications a Kosutra cannon strike might help you (it's a lot better in Entrenchment but still could be usefull). Still, I think your goal should be to get all the phase missile upgrades, then let about 20-30 assaliants + your caps focus fire until only the frigates are left. Without the cap abilities the advent fleet should start to fall apart. Use the subverters to disable all of his support ships that are trying to heal his caps, and you should be able to win.
Also, all of this macroing is much easier against the AI as you can use the pause button.
There is also some quirkyness with the Guardian's Shield Projection ability you might want to take note of: not only does shield damage get transferred to the Guardian, but I've also seen hull damage (by phase missiles bypassing shields) also get transferred as hull damage to a Guardian casting SP (I've seen Guardians lose varying amounts of hull while their shields were still up and no units were directly firing at it).
Scouts, fighters, and heavy cruisers (in order from early to late game solutions) are your typical counters to assailants. If you're using mostly disciples, assailants will absolutely hammer you. Really, as Advent you can brute force your way through assailants and kill them with your own long range frigate (the illuminator).
Good luck buddy.
In all seriousness, you'll need to bring their capital ships out of commission. Either attack their antimatter or try to take them down the old fashioned way. To complement this you'll need to bring in lots of repair power. The Advent have absolutely terrible hull repair capabilities, and usually rely on shield restoration. Taking out the guardians is a huge edge towards beating the Advent.
attack antimatter and research your phase missiles, and shield/hull upgrades. the Kortul's destructive nanites and overload (I think that's what it's called) abilities are pwnage when combined with phase missile swarm from the Vulkorus.
Space egg is awesomeness with nano-disassembler and gravity warhead. get one/two.
other than that, lots of Skarovas, Kanraks, and flak frigates (Advent are strikecraft heavy).
the Skarovas will keep the otehr ships away, Kanraks do lots of damage with phase+AoE missiles, and flak kills any fighters.
keep about 10-15 Stilakus Subverters and 5-10 Overseers for repairs behind the front lines
but that's my opinion on general Vasari tactics. fell free to deviate partially or entirely from this to counter their specific fleet.
I am gonna play my first large map game against an unfair advent Ai soon, any good early game tips. i usually micro a medium sized scout fleet to explre/capture neutrals is that recommended in large maps or should i jus let them explore and return to neutrls later.
Edit may face TEC instead having a little trouble beating them.(needs practse)
