So, now that the first episode has aired, what do you think?
Other than the style (too BSG/Defying Gravity (camera shots and flashbacks) for my taste - it seems the norm these days though) I like it so far.
Good story line, good cast and characters, and a fresh new twist to the SG saga.
Although, why hasn't there been any mention of an actual FTL drive in the other series? If so many ships were sent out with these drives, it should have been noticed by either SG1 or SGA in their searches of the Ancients databases.
But overall, I am looking forward to (hopefully) several more new seasons of Stargate.
I for one am enjoying the show. *shields face from flaming* I can see what they are trying to do with the show, but I would like to see some interaction with aliens, new technologies and external characters/plot twists. (meaning introducing new characters/plot twists from somewhere other than Earth and "Destiny", maybe a new planet they discover with sentients that have their own issues to deal with etc.) I don't see why everyone here finds the stones to be rediculous, it really shows how they have mastered their whole "transfer consciousness" filming style, that they have been implementing since the 'ol SG-1 days. Considering that they have little or no control over most ship systems due to damage and other unknown reasons, it makes sense that they cannot contact Earth. Hell, would Earth even know how to recieve the message??? The stones solve that logistical issue...(just throw in some really powerful enigmatic technology from the ancients' most recent era and BAM, you have a solution to a logistical issue). The main problem with the show is that the producers/writers are trying to create an environment with real people who feel and interact (not that they don't do that well, although I have a few complaints) and I don't know about you, but I get enough social drama in my real life to not want to tolerate it while I am relaxing with my 33' Acer on Hulu. Ionno, maybe I like it because I am not comparing it to the rest of the SG franchise. I don't really want to compare it......its like comparing WoW to Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. They aren't alike enough to formulate a valuable comparison.
Even on its own merits, and not comparing it to anything - it sucks.
Country Music? O_M_G
I can tell we'll have a lot more fun making fun of the show then we ever did watching it.
That is highly possible. Though my girlfriend came up with an ending scenario for the show:
Everyone onboard the Destiny gets STDs passed through Chloe. Except Eli.
LOL EPIC VICTORY
I think you guys are mistaking the asian chick (not the IOA lesbian but the Scientist) for Chloe...The Asian chick fucked Greer and the other airmen. But regardless another wasted hour. And for what? Rush to continue to set into concrete hes an ass and not to be trusted and Young to knock the shit out of Telford. I think that 10 seconds was the only interesting bit in the entire show. Everything else was blah. Like usual, and the fact they left the last episode incomplete has enraged SG1 fans everywhere.
Also Circumstantial. Your describing exactly what SG1 was, which is exactly the opposite of what SGU is. I throw down the request to vote SGU out of SG Canon before it does anymore harm.
Wow, what a cesspool of hate.
I'm actually enjoying SGU and didn't feel 'Life' was imcomplete at all.
then explain the episode before it, cause they actually never solved their problem.
They were left with all the information they needed. It doesn't take much imagination to understand that they went to the planet, found the Kinos, and saw what happened before. Then, knowing what needed to be done, they went to the creatures nest during the day and caught some to make a cure. Seemed pretty clear to me and didn't require being actually shown.
i have a serious question...
A galaxy is a massive thing, right. and its not arranged in a straight line...
My question is: both SG1 and SGA Stargates could dial any gate within their galaxy as standard, it was only for intergalactic travel that more power etc was required.
So... whats going on in SGU where SG's have to come into range? Lets say its a power issue... they have 40% of total capacity after the first sun they dipped into, possibly a bit more after the second sun... it should be enough?
i mean, traditionally, SG's are self powered, most of them dont have a spaceship or a city ship or a city electrical grid to power them... so why is this one different?
and on another matter. Rush says the Destiny's SG cannot dial back to Earth, because it only has 40% total power... wait, so you are telling me you need more than 40% of ALL the power at your disposal, to dial Earth...
um... design flaw? what idiot designed a system that requires you to drain your ships power to dial home? given, the range is much greater than what was probably intended, but then why design the ships (both the seeder ship and Destiny) with such longevity in mind? Surviving 10,000 years and STILL seeding gates (which, btw, would have run out of gates a long time ago? does the seeder ship fabricate gates itself? if so, thats cool... and very useful, otherwise...)
i hate glaring holes such as these in a story
FUCKIN' A!!! the sooner the writers guild realise that people dont want to see real life 'heroes' (aka losers) in their entertainment, the better off the industry will be!
Keep soap operas for dedicated soap operas, and keep sci-fi for sci-fi
unfortunately, however, everything comes down to money, and in the end, the SG Higher-Ups cheaped out and created SGU instead of finishing SGA
Lost alot of respect in my book
This explains what happened after the end of episode "Time"
yeah, i still dont like the idea that for me to be filled in on things they decide not to put in the episodes, I have to go look them up. Just ridiculous.
Wow watching that web update is painful...
Do not know why, but i actually liked this "Life" episode. I suspect the lesbian stuff might be the reason .
Seriously it wasn´t that bad, i would say it was better than the previous one on the planet, even if it was less sci-fi. For a moment it seemed quite eventful - Young was going to beat Telford, Eli found out Rush´s lie about the planet and i was really thinking that the bald soldier was finally going nuts and kill anybody...
If only they could bring some sci-fi elements into it - aliens, spaceships, gate-travelling - it might be really good.
it doesnt disturb you people are jumping bodies and using them for sex.........i think id be pissed if someone used my body to have sex with their wife or life partner.
Life was pants.
There was about five minutes of actually interesting stuff, interspersed with a lot of rubbish.
I'm normally a patient guy but SGU is so pedestrian in its plot development, someone's going to have to make an Abridged Series so I can actually watch SGU without throwing up my hands in disgust yelling 'Where's the bloody story?'
One of the things I liked about SG-1 and Atlantis was that you weren't forced to wait a whole season for the main cast to rise to the occasion and become the heroes you wanted to inspire you. Reality sucks, and an episode of a Stargate series which doesn't involve stepping through a gate sucks bloody awfully.
I hope they can it after the first series and start on something else.
SGU is not reality. Its very broken and misunderstood characters trying to sell themselves as real.
The way the bigwigs oporate at the studios (ie with head up ass), they will conclude that it's the brand that's at fault. And they won't touch it again!
I just saw life. Did Matt kill himself at the end? It looked like he was in the broken shuttle and I coulda sworn I saw some blue gust fill it up. Hm, although this was basically the "drama" episode, it made perfect sense. The title is life, literally hinting that the episode is about life. They used country music, infamous for its retardedly depressing lyrics about how fucked some random guy's life is, and everyone is having a REALLY bad fckn day, except that one asian chick who fux everyone and is spreading the A.I.D.S....not "reading". I congratulate the team, they made their second really believabley deep character(next to Eli, because Eli is a gamer and that= instarelate), the human resources girl that works for the IOA. She actually has a relationship with someone, that seems to run deeper than sex and fighting....unlike Col. Young(tehe, I love judging fictional characters). I think I might be the only person that watches this show and doesn't think Rush is a dick..actually I think I am the only person that watches this show . Even though this was the drama episode, and I hate teh dramas, at least it helps make the characters seem a little more believable....nobody cares about the consequences of their actions...just like real pplz!!! This has gone from a scifi with soap opera elements, to a soap opera with scifi elements. This really epitomized everything that has built up till now, and then asploded it. Hopefully the show wont stick with this crap instead of moving on to a more adventurous SGU, with aliens....and uh, guns n shit, n violence *drones off*...an' sum shootin an sum spaseshipz....
No, I watch the show and think Rush is mostly ok. I hate how Colonel Young is so absurdly paranoid of Rush. Even when Rush does lie, he isn't acting malevolently.
no, that was just the reflection of the blue slipstream outside the ship, though i can see how you might have come to that conclusion
i dont know about America, but in Australia the next episode is being aired in two weeks because of something you guys are showing next weeek instead of SGU. AND THEN! as though it cant get any worse, the series is going on a mid-season break and coming back in 2010. i mean, its not as if they can afford the people that will loose interest between now and next year. The show is pitiful as it is, and now they are testing the patience of the viewers even more.
Unfortuantely, its like Rush and Eli said: "Well, at least it cant get any worse", "I'm afraid thats just a failure of imagination"
Damn straight.
every episode has been about the character development. There hasnt been a single episode where they havent involved a characters personal life. Not once have they had to face an alien race looking to kill them and not their stupidity. Reality check they wouldnt be in this situation if Rush didnt dial Destiny. Young said it himself, if Rush was worried about the effects of Icarus going boom and transfering through the gate to earth. The best option would have been to dial another planet and then transfer to Earth. And the stupid ass excuse that ONLY 1 planet in a GALAXY (no way in hell has SGC surveyed every planet in the Milky Way at this point.) has the ability to dial Destiny is a load of shit.
More then likely its the first planet theyve come across with that amount of power fed into the Gate without it blowing up in their faces. But just like theres thousands of Earth Like planets. Its safe to assume theres 100s if not thousands of Icarus like planets.
