I bought the Game of the Year Edition last night and, when I went to install it this morning, the one CD that it came with is the music cd. The cd only has music on it and no other files... The game also didn't come with a CD key. There's nothing on the packaging that would indicate to me that this should only include music and NO GAME ( *sadness* ). Since Wal-Mart is probably not going to let me take this back I was wanting to see if I could get any help here. If everything (the game and Music) is on one CD then maybe my computer isn't reading it or something but if there is supposed to be two separate CDs then I think I've ran into a distribution error.
*Edit: The game also didn't come with a Game Manual (which I assume is where the CD key would be printed). All that is in my cd case is the Music CD, Tech Tree poster, and an advertisement for Entrenchment.
Thanks!
What OS and computer do you have?
I'm using Vista, running a Gateway with Core2 Quad 2.33mhz. If you need other info let me know.
Thanks a lot.
Do you have both a DVD ROM drive and a CD ROM drive, or do you only have one?
Just one. It's a DVD/CD burner combo.
Did you open the files on the cd?
Yeah. I may have not been clear enough but I mentioned in the first post that the CD does not contain anything other than Music files. I assume either Vista isn't seeing them for some reason or the music and game were on separate disks (in my experience this is how it always has been) and my copy is missing the game CD. This computer is new and I don't know anything about Vista so it's hard for me to be certain what the problem is.
Ok, do you have the original receipt from Wal-Mart?
Lol yeah. I'm going to try and take it back. They wanted me to pay 3 bucks for a product replacement plan and I didn't, because I mean hey when do you buy a game and not have the game in the box? Because of that I'm not sure that they'll take it back.
No there is nothing wrong with Vista (in this case anyway) you got a music cd only (the game of the year is similar to the collectors edition which is what I got so I know)
contact stardock at support@stardock.com and hopefullly they can help you, bare minimum at least let you download the game off impulse for free if not send you a replacement disk.
ps when you get that all solved get Entrenchment, it really adds to the enjoyment of the game, its download only
I called Wal-Mart and they said they'd replace it so it's all good. It's probably faster to drive there and back then to try to sort something out online so I'll just do that.
Thanks a lot for the help guys.
I bought my game from wal-mart today and have the same problem on my vista box. I started to think it was my cimputer, but then I tried it on my roomates xp box, and he had the same propblem.
Only audio files exist on the CD. Stardock should either include the game in the box, or have a note explaning what to do. I buy games to relax, not stress out trying to install them.
Anyways, my version actually did have a book that had the serial, so iam using impule to download the software.
