On certain occasions I am getting lines of rectangular-ish shapes to appear in groups on certain locations of the map. Hard to explain, see the pics:
Notice they only appear near the edge of the map, along the water:
They are sporadic, because after a turn, the shapes disappeared, only to reappear a few turns later:

The last shows again how it only seems to appear in blocks along the edges.
I seem to get this when holding the space bar down consistently to pass turns, though I don't believe I was doing that in the first case.

I did look at that and thought it was similar, but I had no connection to founding cities, and none of my cities were on top of the water. Yours also didn't mention the sporadic appearance, or the edge of the map placement.
Recently I did have a game where the the map looked like yours, so I guess it is the same issue.
I had this issue as well, with sporadic appearance/reappearance of the shapes.
Case 1: Upon founding the city
This went away on the next turn.
Case 2: Upon queuing a farm, the shapes reappeared
These shapes stayed for a few turns, then randomly (?) went away again. Can't say further than that as I experienced a CTD a few turns later.
