So I see a lot of posts with people asking how to make various things in the game work, Reasonable enough. So my though is, let's have a little wiki that is a repository of community knowledge. Obviously the actual Stardock writers are busy working on the game and there's no reason to write a manual for something that'll change radically. However we tester types can maintain a wiki. So, I've set one up. It is intended to be a living document that we update, as the beta changes so that when we have gameplay questions, there's a place to look.
It is at http://elementalbeta.wikidot.com/start
So to the testers I want to know:
1) Do you thin this is something that'd be useful?
2) You interested in helping?
From Stardock I want to know:
1) Are you ok with this? If not, I'll take it down. I do not wish to anger the frog .
2) Do you want control of it? If this is the kind of thing you'd like to run, I'll transfer master administrator to whoever you specify.
3) Is this a duplication of something you are doing, that I just haven't found?
At any rate, it's linked here. Right now, it's very basic since I don't know if Stardock will want me to keep it around, I just wanted to get something up to show what I mean.
Let me know what you think.
There's no NDA, so help yourself. Just be aware of what you're committing to and make sure that you're willing to keep it up.
Excellent idea! Good karma to you!
Well all I'm committing to doing is setting up a site .
We'll see how much use it gets, and how much help I get. If it is all left up to me, it is likley to be somewhat basic. If we get community contributions, it will probably be fairly good.
At any rate, I'll give it a spin since in a couple other betas I've done, such a thing ended up being really helpful.
Outstanding idea, this should go far I think
Yeah, this is something I wanted to do but got overwhelmed with making the game
Email scott@stardock.com or visit us on IRC if you have any specific questions.
Love the idea, but surely I would be better to call it Elemental wiki, so it can be used after the beta.
A long term wiki page might be a good idea.
I just checked it out - looks GREAT so far!
Great Idea but as megajames75 said remove the beta word from the wiki so it will be a useful site even after beta!
Karma for you!
Keep this updated please - its great
Well I can remove beta from the name on the page. The wikidot URL was chosen in part because there is already an elemental.wikidot.com that has nothing ot do with the game, so I couldn't have that domain. I suppose I could buy a dedicated domain for it or something.
We'll see what happens after the beta in the long term. I don't know if I'm interested in being a wiki administrator for something like this for the life of the game (which in the case of this game could be a decade or more), but I'm not ruling it out, or maybe that it gets handed off to someone else.
For now, it is designed to be a "manual replacement" as it were for the beta. What it becomes after that, we'll see. I'm not going to delete it on release day or anything though.
The GalCiv 2 Wiki is pretty useful to explain how some of the mechanics work. As Elemental gets mechanics that need explaining, the wiki can expand into this stuff.
Great idea starting it now.
I think beta should stay in the name until the beta is over, and possibly after that if it's easier to start fresh with official docs as a baseline than it is to prune out all the beta-related things that are likely to accrue over nearly a year of testing.
Is there a spot on the Wiki page to ask Questions to which other Testers can provide answers and could then be complied into a ingame Q/A section?
Wiki states: "The sovereign gains experience by defeating enemies."
Question: Is Exp shared with all members of a "Grouping" that includes the Sovereign, or does he/she benefit soley but gets Battle assistance from the other members, via HP to lose, in the Grouping?
