It's not particularly tough to figure out thus far, but is there any sort of manual doc available for the beta that I may have overlooked?
no, not that is released to the public anyway. Nothing is that solidified (like we arn't even sure if any of the current existing buildings are going to be in the final the way they are now, or if races are going to have the same bonuses, or any of that)
Is there at least a thread where one can get a little guidance? (Or at least know what should be working and what shouldn't?)
Well here's a little list of what I've figured out:
Anything else you need to know I didn't list? I think I may have found every feature in the beta, I'm not sure
I just moved th unit into my own borders and it seemed to heal. so no need to drag it all the way to the city.
Is combat in yet? Tried running over spiders and trolls but they ignore me.
I had the same issue - but only with my scout. When I moved a guard unit over the troll a fight ensued. Perhaps the scout has a trait that allows it to avoid combat?
On a separate issue, yesterday Elemental showed up in Impulse and today it doesn't. Anyone ever have this happen to them?
Yes, as long as you have movement points left on that turn, when you move on top of them, you should get a screen showing the relative strengths of the units and prompted to attack or run.
Wouldn't a beta wiki do the trick? As long as we version the beta we are talking about, it should allow for us to develop useful documentation for each other.
Once you've researched Mining, possible mining sites appear on the map. To use them, you seem to need to build a city next to them, much like building farms.
Also, it appears that with some tech, you get a bonus immediately when you start researching it (say 20%), and then every turn you research it, the bonus improves up to some maximum. This is instead of waiting for 20 turns then suddenly getting a massiv bonus in one hit. I like it this way.
Upon further investigation, it appears you can only initiate combat with your soverign, not with an individual military unit. They can still get attacked though if the mob randomly moves onto you, just can't get them to start an attack.
So while it is very far from being complete, I've got a wiki up that is going to sort of be like a manual. Obviously with a beta changing all the time there'll not be a definitive manual, but I (and hopefully others) will be adding info to it as we go.

I noticed that sometimes your sovereign starts out equipped like a warrior with 9 attack and 7 defense. I think the faction that comes with a research bonus (Parriden?) starts out like this. This makes the sovereign an almost unstoppable force in this build, especially if you find any +5 attack rings.
Sweet. You rock!
This is not the case for me, I have initiated combat with both my soverign and normal units I have built. I have even killed other soverigns with regular units. This was after researching the armor techs, which right now are crazy over powered
There are many great features available to you once you register, including:
