Or is it just another game nothing alike with sins
http://www.ntronium.com/Armada2526%20Home.html
I don't think that it will compete with SoaSE since the armada site http://www.ntronium.com/Armada2526%20Home.html state that there is a turn based strategy map (which reminds me a lot of the map of MOO2). The single player mode could be more a threat for Galactic civilization 2.
It looks like some people are trying to a get another successor to Master of Orion 2
You know, I have never played that MoO2 (or the first...) and I wish I had. So many people talking so many good things about it. :/
To me it looks liek a cross between GalCiv2, Swords fo the Stars and SINS. I see key feture from all 3 game sinto that one game.
with alittle improved graphics this looks like nothing more then Rome: Total war IN SPPPAAACEEE!! !!
I think it quite original of them to give the players a choice of wether or not they want to be a Military Empire, A Intel Empire and so on. But I think we all know where people are going to focus. The Empire thats going to make the most explosions and crush the enemy.
I've never heard of this game, but it does look interesting. I'll keep an eye on it.
Interesting, i'm not really into turn based strategy, but i need to keep an eye on that one.
Yeah, its by the project leader for medieval2
I like the idea of total war in space but do not like the 2d dimension that the real time battles seem to be fought in.
Its just not spacey.
I would like sins to have this kind of detail though. Hopefully diplomacy will have it.
Yeah does look a little different, thanks for the info.
Looks interesting; I wanna be in the beta
LOL< I want to be int he beta of everything!
I applied for the beta, but Bob Smith said he's already got enough play-testers for the first round. However, it sounds as if I might be able to participate in the next beta in a couple weeks (I hope, I hope!)....
looks very promising and I'll keep following the development. I hope the AI will be good and that the space combat is not too much clicking. May the best fleet win and not the best mouse clicking admirals. When is the first demo due?
I too will be watching the out come of this game. It looks like it
might be fun to play ... If I have some free time I might sign up
for a beta spot ....
Well in the game's list of features, it's mentioned that the AI is being worked on by an expert in the field. Also, apparently it's been built into the game from the very beginning, which means that it can be updated to "take advantage of new game features as they are added, giving the developers the maximum time to polish its behavior".
As for the space battles (again quoting from the features list), "the emphasis is firmly on tactics and maneuvering formations, rather than frantic clicking on individual ships". Given that lead developer Bob Smith seems to be a big fan of the Total War games (which he also spent a decade helping create), I'm reasonably confident the game's space combat will be as it's described.
No date has been given yet. However, I would surmise it's likely going to be another few months, as while much of the game is already done, some key features have yet to be fully implemented. Most notably, the battle AI and higher-level empire AI haven't been added yet (although I believe it's being developed concurrent to the rest of the game; it's just not been integrated into the current build).
My personal guess would be sometime early next year, but don't quote me on that.
Sins is a VeryLite4X-RTS™, while Armada 2526 is a traditional (For the most part) 4X game. Persoanlly, I think we need more traditional 4X games.
Thanks Martok for the info. Would be nice if the developper would have a news page or a blog to keep up with the game's development.
I agree VarekRaith, there should be more traditional (rts) 4x games
if that AI expert is anything like total wars latest aI, that will be a joke.... then again its not really a 3D spatial game.
My guess would be this is going to be like Armada 2525 with some more depth and nicer graphics. The original came out a long time ago and was the first space 4x game I ever played. It was a fun game that came out before MOO. I remember playing it a lot but can't remember too many details as it was so long ago (1991). I'll definitely give it a try when it comes out. I really miss my 4x games.
What about Galciv2?
Wow, that game does look interesting. I hope there will be a "calculate outcome" option on the battles, battles just don't interest me. I guess I am getting old that way.
Any news if it will come on Impulse?
Whislt it does look interesting and I certainly have no objection the turn-based strategy gameplay it does look like another developer has sacrificed realism and graphical presentation in the hope gameplay alone will carry the game.
My credit card is ready for when we get a new space game which marries the two succesfully.
Looks like promising game
But don't think anything can touch Sins really... Not as yet anyway...
Same for me. Might be interesting to watch, but I don't like thinking about it too much. Just give me the strategic and diplomatic choices.
Well, it's not that I don't like battles, it's just I don't care much for taking controll of the units and pointing them to attack etc, like a typical RTS C&C style.
I guess that is why I am finding Gratuitous Space Battles to be pretty fun. Looking forward to what happens.
Sins of a Solar Empire is the only "close to RTS" game I enjoy playing, since the AI there is pretty good and I can just let them enter a battle and let them do their thing.
I sent off an email asking if the game is coming to Impulse. I hope so.
The game looks intesting enough i added the web page to fav's so i can follow up on it.
Thanks to the person sho started this thread for pointing out the game.
The game is not a threat to Sins but to my wallet!
I am looking forward to this game a lot. I just hope they include some kind of diplomatic win which is what i prefer in MOO 1 & 2. Unfortunately there's no forum yet.
Cheers
PS: cheers Martok
